LTTP: The Last Of Us (Unmarked Spoilers)

First off let me say; I know there are a ton of these, but I have to make one.

From the time this game was announced, I told myself I was going to buy a PS3 just to play this. This past Wednesday I finally put my money where my mouth was and bought one, along with The Last Of Us. Just about 20 minutes ago (Fake Edit: 40 minutes ago), I finished it.

From the moment I started, to the moment I finished, this game impressed me in almost every way. It's intro is one of my favorite intros to any game I've ever played. The creepiness of wandering halls as a little kid, along with the perfect timing of infected popping up. (specifically the back door scene right after Joel comes in) All the way down to her dying, embedding Joel with a deep grief, which eventually makes him insane. All I can say is Dat intro tho.

Throughout the game, I absolutely love the fact that almost nowhere in the entire game, bar the giraffe scene, did I feel like I was safe. I felt on edge about every single corner, crevasse, and dark room. I always felt like there would be a clicker or bloater staring at me as soon as I went through a door. It set the perfect mood for the story. Ellie says it best, "Endure and survive".

Ellie is definitely the star of the show. She's a little badass, who don't take shit from no one. Easily one of my favorite character in video games. From how she pummeled David with a machete, to how she learned how to whistle in Pittsburgh. She adds charm to the game. Every time she said something I made sure to listen, so I didn't miss any gold. Playing as her was awesome too. I like how I needed more strategy to get through the maze of hunters with just a switch blade and a brick/bottle. Made for an interesting twist that kept me wanting to play more.

The connection between Joel and Ellie was crafted in a way that I could feel the transformation of Joel suppressing his past, to when he starts to hold on to Ellie like she's Sarah. To the point that he won't give her up, no matter what the cost, and no matter who he has to kill.

That leads me to the ending. God damn was that a good ending. It catapults Joel into being a god damned lunatic. I completely expected it to happen, just based off of how attached he was getting to Ellie, but that's also what I was hoping for. It was built to make an interesting story for the sequel, and I understand that. A+

There are two parts in the game that I didn't like.

The first is the sniper spot in Pittsburgh. I didn't have trouble in this area, but the sniper fires too quickly and is impossible to shoot through the window. I didn't like that. After you get up to his sniping spot, there is the most painfully obvious cut scene ambush (to the point that before I went in, I threw two nail bombs in to try and skip it if possible). Once you kill him, then you get jammed into a window with no choice but to defend the group with your own unlimited ammo barrage of one hit KO bullets. This is the worst part in the game to me.

The second was in the sewers, just after Pittsburgh. Where Joel gets paired up with Sam. I don't know why, but that kid did not want to hide on a fucking wall. Instead he ran in circles around the stalkers pushing them to turn in different paths then they were supposed to take. That made for a difficult sneak. For the life of me I couldn't make it past that place, until I went into fuck it mode, and wasted half of my ammo getting through.

If I had to rate this game it would be a DeliveredOnHype/10. Easily one of my favorite games of last gen, and one of my favorite games of all time. I'm very happy I bought a PS3 for this game, and I'm glad you guys didn't over hype a game that I would have been dissatisfied with. I was a bit jealous, now I'm happy.

Now off to the Ellie/Riley DLC.

TL;DR I loved 99% of it. Disliked 1%.
