Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Hey guys :)

I'm not getting the brightness or volume incremental increases like previously posted on ML3.

I'm running a MBP 2.4 Core 2 Duo w/ 320m Geforce.

My question is -

I'm not being able to run the Air Display on my Apple TV 3.

Is this just me? I haven't researched a great deal but it's seeming that it's not supported. Is this true? Ipad 3 runs just fine on it. Thanks in advance! Hope everyone is having fun in ML.

Hmm... I'm having trouble getting notifications to work. When I recieve a new e-mail or a new iMessage, the familiar badge dock icon is not appearing nor is the notifications banner appearing. Any help?

Anyone with the latest Developer Preview installed want to post a screenshot of The OpenGL Extension Viewer under the Core profile? Interested to see if any improvements have been made, as I hear there has been.

Really excited for Notification Center and the increased performance of Mountain Lion. I'm also itching for a clean install.

It would be great if the OS hit in late June, as has been rumored in the last week, rather than late July.

I'm having the exact same issue. Imessage works when it wants to, and Mail never says anything, though the emails will be coming in. Game Center has worked everytime, however. I'm on DP 3.

I will admit though; I never thought I'd dig the notification pane so much--when it's working.

I think so. It should should up in the purchased list on the App Store. Or you can make a recovery USB disk and install on the other computer.

That's not the case with Lion even though iLife gets redeemed in your App Store account when you buy a Mac with Lion on it, so I doubt it'll be the case with Mountain Lion. Of course, that could change, but you'd think if they bothered to do that with iLife, they would've also done it with Lion too.

Really looking forward to Mountain Lion. DP3 is very stable and having my Notes and Reminders everywhere is just super, super awesome.
One question though: is anybody else having problems with Flash? Updated it to newest version, still, crashes Safari as well as Chrome (which is weird, seeing as Chrome comes with its own version of Flash) every now and again and even brings the whole system to a halt, requiring a restart when watching YouTube, for example...

Still, great OS!

Has 10.8 made any changes to Full Screen apps and multi monitor setups? I want to be able to use one app in full screen and not have the other screen blacked out. It's such a stupid flaw in Lion except it's probably intentional

So I've got my 2003 eMac sitting in my closet with a dead HDD. That thing's not a whole lot of fun to open up and work on, so I won't until I have a reason to, which is why I'm here.

Can you guys think of any purpose for a PowerPC Mac these days?

Obvious thing would have been a music server/internet machine for a spare room. If not sell it.

Well, my parents have a computer and I have a 2010 eMac iMac, so I guess I'll sit on it for a while longer. At some point in the future I'll drop a massive HDD into it and use it as a media server or something.

There's too many memories for me to get rid of the thing.

Edit: 2010 iMac, not eMac.

I actually want to buy an older PPC Mac for my flat, just wondering which one. I'll only use it for nostalgic reasons though

Exactly the one I want! I was going to buy one off a girl at work but she thought it was too nostalgic so she kept it!

Scouring eBay for a good condition one

I wish I had bought it instead of my eMac, but in 2003 the differences between the two were design and price. A $999 eMac, specs wise, was just as powerful as the $1799 iMac.

LCD tax, I suppose.

Can't wait for OS X Sabertooth.
This may be the MGS fan in me, but OS X Ocelot is something I really want to see. Great name.

I hate Lion's fullscreen mode. It ruins multitasking and the transition animation is obnoxiously slow and janky.

I can agree on that last part, it's definitely a bit slow for no good reason. However, I love FS. I use it all the time with my spaces environment and I couldn't imagine doing without it, honestly.

Well there is only one more big cat to go with 10.9. I expect the cycle to get a new naming convention when it switches to OSX 11 after that.

Yeah, I use it too, but there are serious flaws, like how other applications can't appear over the fullscreen app.

Some of my apps are made to kind of hover over other apps. Lion's fullscreen breaks this, and it really makes the UX less agile.

You really expect them to go 10.10? I can't see them doing that. They've been on OS X for over a decade. They gotta finally switch to OS XI after 10.9.
That isn't how software works.

But yeah, I expect OS X to become... something else soon.

I think it's pretty evident he knows how software versions work. I also don't think they'll do a 10.10, hell they might not even do a 10.9. OS 11 has gotta be coming up soon.

I get how it technically works, but purely from a branding perspective I fully expect Apple to move to OS XI after 10.9. Even now it's already kind of absurd both of these are OSX:

Ah, the OSX Public Beta. I think I still have the T-Shirt somewhere. Yeah, it's amazing how much OS X has changed since then.

On my laptop I love using FS. It's very good for small or single screens. I have a Space for Mail, one for iTunes or Spotify, one for Screen Sharing and one for VMWare. But if I'm using my Mac Mini I want to have two screens running at the same time, and run FS apps in both. The annoying thing is that some Youtube videos now push Chrome into FS mode so if I maximise the video I lose the second screen. It's so stupid.

Why thank you.

Also, anyone else half expecting the next iteration of OS X to simply be "the new OS X"?
Hopefully not, because it would make software support a nightmare.

"Which version of OS X are you using?"
"The new one."
"Is that the new new one or the old new one?"

I hate Lion's fullscreen mode. It ruins multitasking and the transition animation is obnoxiously slow and janky.
I'm increasingly finding the animation annoying. I've been using multiple desktops to update my Delicious Library and keep opening a new window in Safari with Cmd+N when I'm swiping back to DL and meant to add a new item because shortcuts don't apply to that desktop until the animation is finished. Surely it's obvious that when I'm in the process of moving to the other desktop I intend to work on that one rather than the one I just left.

The current version of Tiger is 10.4.10. They're certainly not planning a huge overhaul of the OS on an annual update schedule. They started de-emphasising the version number recently anyway, switching from "10.7 Lion" to simply "Lion".

What I'm curious about is what happens when iOS hits version 10. iOS X?

If you look at the Lion pages and the ML sneak peak on the Apple site, they don't mention "10.X" anywhere. They're emphasizing the codename, so I don't see why they wouldn't go to 10.10 and higher.
