What are we talking about? The blue glowing lights under a running app in the dock? I've remembered that since as far as I can remember... wasn't it always default?

Just looked at the Ars Technica review and apparently Apple turned the lights on by default at the last minute. Ignore me! I was under the impression the default was that they were off.
Not in the immediate future, but I can certainly see them being merged maybe five or six years from now.
Most of the changes to OS X over the last few years have been about bringing it more in line with iOS. An app store, LaunchPad, redesigned iCal/Mail/Address Book to be more like iPad versions, auto-hiding scrollbars, changing the way scrolling works, auto-save/resume, FaceTime, push notifications, iOS style auto-correct, emoji, new multi-touch gestures, and coming soon there's iCloud, Notes, Reminders, Notification Center, Game Center.
iOS has been getting a lot of Mac apps (Photo Booth, Garage Band, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, even Airport Utility) and OS X has been cribbing a lot of user interface elements and features from iOS. Sooner or later they are going to become practically identical and it will make sense to merge them.
As far as I am aware, there are no other big cats, besides subspecies. They could have followed up Tiger with Siberian Tiger. I suppose they could do Liger.
It's Apple. If your computer is more than 4 years old or your iOS is more than 2 years old you don't get the newest OS. It's been that way for multiple OS cycles, why the sudden outrage?

Trying out the preview atm, performance feels smoother than Lion. Something I noticed is that scrollbars widen when you mouse over them. Pretty neat.

Good. As much as I love the new non-scroll bars, when I actually want to grab one of them, it can be a pain sometimes.
Damnit, if only the named iOS by house cats and slowly evolved it and named it Tiger, then the last iteration of OS X could have been Liger, and it would actually make sense. Missed opportunity!

I could've sworn the indicator lights were off by default in Lion.
I would expect OS X to become subsumed into iOS before that happens. That is obviously the plan.
[edit] "Lynx" and "Ocelot" are two badass names I would like to see in the future.
Ok, as somebody who is typing this post on a six year old iBook G4 running 10.5, I need to point out something fairly important:
Sometimes you don't necessarily want the new version, because it's not going to be optimized for your platform.
Even though people have been packaging Universal binaries for years, PPC platforms have increasingly become an afterthought, so performance is primarily tested on the newer platforms that typically have more memory. My laptop generally isn't as fast as it used to be simply because the software has become slower. The same situation is likely happening for the 32/64bit divide. They'll do primary testing on the 64bit side, but will just be happy if the 32bit version doesn't barf all over itself.
Fortunately for people like me, though, there are still people who will develop for PPC as a primary target, and stuff like TenFourFox works amazingly well while still being current with Firefox.

I hope they add AirPlay receiving abilities to OSX and maybe even the rest of iOS devices sometime in the future.
Apple kinda recognizes the Mac mini as a powerful HTPC option for those who want or need more than an ATV2, so please don't keep that feature artificially exclusive.

I'm having some issues setting up iMessage. I get the initial screen asking for my Apple ID, but when I put it in with my password, it pops up with another password dialogue box asking for the password (looks like for Keychain). After putting it in, it keeps popping up again. it either keeps going or just fails with "password invalid or wrong". It's not wrong.

First one is a an Apple ID log in, then a dialogue pops up asking for the password (to go into keychain) for "___________" (where that is my Apple ID email).

Well hopefully they get rid of it. :lol
If people want to see it they can double click on the file being copied and it can pop up or something, or have it come up on all file transfers over 30 seconds. Computers are at the point where most all files can be copied/transferred in a few seconds - no need to waste resource or divert resources and focus for a window that won't exist long enough to read it.
I clicked Always Accept (or whatever).

I don't know if I read it right but 9to5mac is reporting that Moutain Lion will not work ob MacBook Pros with Intel Core 2 Duos. How true is that? My MBP is less than a year old.
No, it runs fine on (at the very least) MBPs introduced in October of 2008.
Less than a year old in terms of when you bought it, or less than a year old in terms of when Apple released it?
A neat use of the notification center would be to use a finder pop-up that displays the progress.

Less than a year when I bought it brand new from the Apple store The OS that came with it was Snow Leopard.

Plus, I gave you a way out - I already said that if the transfer is especially long that it would use the current behavior. I've copied my fair share of files, however I realize that it is stupid that when duplicating a 200k jpeg, the OS has to pop up a window create a progress bar, "estimate time remaining" for a few seconds, and when it finally gets to the copy, it's already been done.

I do those all the time, and the window does annoy me sometimes. Usually use expose/mission control to see where my progress is at, though.
A notification center type popup with a progress bar would be cool, and something you could close if you wanted to.
Then again, people are needing the window less and less, and i'm assuming a notification pops up with the copy is finished, so there's even less of a need for contestant second by second status updates.
I mean, with SSD's and all the being the next big thing, I think that stuff is out the window.

Yes. According to Gruber, Schiller told him it would be a 'paid' update. I however think it won't be as expensive as Lion. The cheaper it is, the more leverage they have against Win 8. I still can't figure out how MS thinks they will get anyone other than OEMs to pay for Win 8 on tablets - no one wants to pay for a tablet, phone, media player OS, and soon no one will want to pay for a computer OS.
My guess is Mountain Lion will be $9.99.

Yep, also in the same world where people are threatening to switch to Win 8 because OS X is becoming too much like a phone, and people are going to know the difference between an ARM and x86 tablet and correctly choose the more expensive x86 one so that they can touch win32 apps...

I wouldn't mind switching to it, but here and in many places outside the US an IM client without MSN is useless. I'll use it purely to respond to iMessages without going to my phone but stick to Adium for everything else.
