You might be onto something here.

Mirage is the Misa of Delta.

Thanks to the thread for letting me know this existed. Watched the first episode and loved it. Especially loved that they did the callback to the opening of Macross just like Frontier.

I'm enjoying the show so far. The only problem is the excessive fan service

When Freja mentions the famous singers from the previous animes I noticed Sharon Apple was left out

Caught my attention too, but ultimately not a surprising omission. The others were all positive examples, whereas Sharon's final performance was responsible for the closest thing to Var Syndrome in the franchise before this (combined with all of the other damage caused by her AI itself).

I was a little sad no one asked Mirage if her aunt really was in Fire Bomber.

... My God, Mylene is an aunt.

Messer to contract vars in future ep

YF-31 SIEGFREID design is 👌
I know hayate said he only join if he can do whatever, but it's hilarious how he just starts dancing in the vf. Mikumo is weird af, and rip freyja. Looking forward to see why freyja peps are such dicks. Show just gets better each ep for me.

I gotta say....I expected this to basically be a dumpster fire even though I actually kinda-sorta enjoyed Frontier...sometimes.

However, I have really enjoyed the first 4 episodes. They are going Full Anime. You never go Full Anime. Except when you are Macross. Then we end up with pure artistic gold like Macross 7.

Bring back speaker missiles!

I hated the show at first, but the music is so goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.

I've ordered the Macross Frontier dSHUDISUTAb Blu-ray set containing the two Frontier films with English subs. First time using a proxy service. It was like 4500 yen with domestic shipping from a Rakuten seller, but international shipping is going to be killer because it weighs over 2 kilograms with packing material.

I got to finally watch episode 4 on docomo today and Macross Delta is lit.

Definitely more enjoyable than Frontier and they're really going all in. I love it.

The Valkyrie designs are so ace too and the aerial choreography is on point.

Even people who hated the premise of the show at first are slowly catching on to it.

Definitely recommend to give it a chance if you are Macross fan.

Music is good, Valkyrie and robot design is good, environmental designs are good, and characters are pretty good 4 episodes in now. I hope they keep it up because this is definitely entertaining.

As ridiculous as the premise of this show was when I first heard about it, the music keeps it all together. Tightly.

And, in the spirit of Macross, that's all that really matters.

It's getting a more impressive each episode.

I might have to pre-order VF-31 and SV-262 DX Chogokin toys once available...there goes my wallet, yo.

So what's up with some Japanese CGI having weird FPS. The first time I seen this was with Zoids back in the day (hence my nickname for it: the "Zoids" look). Frontier had it and now Delta.

Anyway I hated the Pilot episode yet I watched all episodes so far. Now they hook me with the ending in EP. 4 I guess Macross is in my blood.

BTW fuck Harmony Gold.

I'm watching the first ep...sweet Jesus titty fucking christ! Macross what the fuck have they done to you!!!!! I've slightly adjusted...music is pretty decent, dogfights look nice, I like the Zentradi design throwbacks from the first series. Not a huge fan of the rocket boosting skirts though.

I think I really must be getting old because every song I've heard so far sounds like generic J-pop garbage to me and I absolutely adored Frontier's soundtrack in comparison.

Also it's already obvious that Mirage has this in the bag.

Not the only one, I preferred Frontier's music more so far also. The only song I liked was the slow version Halation THE WAR but that's probably not even going to be a complete song.

It looks the opposite for me but I'm totally for #TeamMirage.

Caught up to Ep 4. This show is almost a dumpster fire.

It has two things going for it, the setting is not bad. I like the water planet and the mercats are boss as fuck including the mercat version of Heathcliff. Sort of a reminds me of the setting of Macross 7 Dynamite but more Kawamori silly. The other part is that the antagonists are actually characters so you get the Ace vs Ace dynamic in the dogfights.

Everything else though...it's basically Macross Frontier in setup but instead of just an idol or two, they put the Jamming Birds into the show. Hayate is basically Alto without the back story, which kinda works because he's not as moody but he's less interesting as a character. Freyja is Ranka but a country bumpkin... The rest of Walkure barely show any real personality in 4 eps either. It feels like some of the background characters got more bits to develop them in the episodes. The antagonists feel overly villainy too which is a real shame considering the setup.

I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that they continue to pseudo-science singing by using that fold-receptor shit that got into Frontier. It really misses the point of the musical aspects of the Macross franchise and has really force the shows into a situation where it clashes rather than it melding into something that works. That absolutely is the worst thing about Macross post-Mac7.

Welp, Shouta hates it, which is a bit disheartening but he hates Frontier too. Seems like other people are good on it?

I'm hoping this is good, but haven't started watching yet, I'm a MASSIVE Macross fan, and in my opinion it hasn't really produced a bad work, with the closest being Zero which was just boring, and Wings of Goodbye which was just inferior to the TV series in most ways. (I don't count Macross 2, because no one else does) I love Frontier, love SDF Macross, and even love Macross 7 to bits. What are my odds of liking the new one?

If you didn't hate Frontier, then you'll probably enjoy this. It keeps with the core Kawamori stuff that he's pushed on the series since Zero. I hate what he's done with everything. It shouldn't be a surprise considering most of his other shows but it's just infuriating >=|

Wow not even acknowledging Plus, huh?

I was hoping that with AKB0048 he'd had finally gotten all that idol culture out of his system but alas. :(

Considering just how successful Frontier was, I'm not particularly surprised with Delta being made to be in line with that, only escalated. Very high odds of liking Delta if you enjoyed Frontier, or disliking it if you hated Frontier.

Gah, did I not mention Plus? Plus was a mistake, it's nothing but garbage.

Who am I kidding? Plus is pretty much the best Macross thing EVER, by a pretty wide margin, primarily because it had a story that fit with its format, wasn't overbloated, had great characters, and amazing art and music. Plus is the Silent Hill 2 of the franchise. It's so good, it's not really fair to compare the rest of the series to it, because the odds of something that good coming out again are rare. Part of the reason I probably didn't think to mention it is well, does anyone who is a Macross fan NOT love Plus?

I mean, the closest in tone to it was Zero, and that did not come close.

I dunno, Macross has, plus aside always been pretty silly. It's something that I was uncomfortable with when I was younger and thought that Robotech was better than the original mostly by virtue of being what I saw first, but years ago when I bought the AnimEigo original set and rewatched SDF, I came to really embrace it. It's overblown, often melodramatic, but it's best when it has a lot of heart, which the best of it (SDF, Plus, 7 and Frontier) really does. Often a Macross series will be flawed, lord knows Frontier and 7 were, but the heart of them really shines through to me. That and Kawamori knows how to set action to music. Good lord.

The SV-262 is so good. Definitely need that DX.

I love the villains, it's like they fell out of a Tales of game.

Silly comes with the territory, Macross 7 exists after all. It's just that I don't think the franchise has the heart anymore. It's because it's really kind of just going through the motions about the music and the story rather than really try to say or do something with it.

It's interesting I found an old post of mine discussing Macross F and it seems I like it more in my memory than I did at the time.

Then again, I know the series has flaws, and some serious tangents, but I do think the high highs are really something that stuck with me now, years later. Episode 20, the finale, hell the entire final run I remember pretty vividly, and at least if it was focused on the music, it was a good thing that the music itself was exceptional. Yoko Kanno really outdid herself on the series, and that really says something. I also liked stuff like Sheryl's star falling as Ranka's star rose, the SMS crew, and how well it mixed the music and the action.

I know it was comfort food in a way, but I really did like the main trio, I thought the setting was the most interesting one since SDF, and its music is right up there with Fire Bomber for me.

I also think the first movie is absolutely top tier Macross, the final invasion alone is still one of my favorite action scenes in anime, and is right up there with Macross + and DYRL.

So watched the first two episodes. It's odd, far more fanciful that frontier was. It kinda feels like if Frontier was Kawamori trying to do an homage to SDF, this is an homage to Macross 7, it's very magical girl like, and more than a bit silly. Not sure where it's going. I'm curious for more, but I certainly don't love it yet. It feels like early episodes of 7 but with worse music.
