Now I fear Mirage is going to make the ultimate sacrifice for Hayate... And I guess Frejya will teach Hayate not to take life and relationships for granted.

That aside I can't get over them hacking by singing. Like my suspension of disbelief in this show about singing superheroes stops it at that moment. Also the jelly ass face of what's her face.

And Hayate having flying-orgasms while looking at her sing? Then the almost confession. Jesus christ, this pairing is absolutely confirmed, stay losing Mirage. Your love is an illusion. Mirages are something a whore does for money... or COCAINE.

But seriously, any hopes for the Mirage ship went out the window with this episode. Even with the two things that made Freiya's heart-on get soft, it's just so they don't get together right away and have some hardships as there are still 5+ episodes to go.

And given the underlying theme of being tied down by the past in most of the character arcs, like Hayate with his father's actions, Mirage with her genius pilot bloodline, Windermere with their independence, and Mikumo with her probably Protoculture origin, I can easily see Mirage's plotline resolving with her just accepting she won't be a godlike pilot like her grandparents, and will probably find success in something like command/teamwork (if the show decides to not just like Freyja-buffed Hayate handle everything).

I especially was a huge fan of all the expressions that were on Freyja's face this week. Seriously too cute.

I don't even hate Basara, I just don't feel like the dude is relationship material. He's unflappable. I think the best way to look at him is to take a step back and see how much he effects other people. I do like how Gamlin secretly became one of his biggest fans though. He went from hating them to singing planet dance and having their posters in his room, though there's also the fact that he's with Mylene as well.

Rune Pika Beam right? Only thing with Mirage though is that her bloodline hasn't come up not even once. It sort of feels like a from out of nowhere thing with her. She hasn't really even referenced her past too much outside of being from the NUNS if I'm not mistaken, though I think in on ep she talked about her joining Walkure cause of what her grandparents told her about Minmay. I feel like I really have to rewatch this already.

There's some more subtle stuff too. Like in the Freyja's birthday episode, Hayate talks about how it's odd that, even though he's been to so many different jobs and places, he ended up following his dad and being a pilot. Then Mirage tells him that it doesn't really matter because he only found out after he had already chosen to be a pilot, so it was still his choice in the end.

She never directly brings up her own lineage in this conversation, but there's the undertone that, while the path that Hayate chose coincidentally happened to be the same as his blood, she herself had no choice but to follow her blood.

Why exactly does she think she had no choice? Mylene had a choice and it seems like Emilia did too. Though the core of those two characters are of singers. God only knows what the rest of the Jenius women did though. I would like to think that if Mirage presented her family with something that she had her heart set on doing they'd understand and let her walk her own path. That family doesn't seem like Misa's family to me where Misa practically had no choice as well as doing it to get with the man she loved. From what I could remember they tried to stop Mylene from fighting in Macross 7.

I mean it had a point. You learn more about Hayates dad, one of the ships goes the way of the titanic, and freiyas heart-on stops glowing when thinking about Hayate for the first time.

She was like "fuck this shit" and drifted into the shadows. Mirage needs a dream sequence like the one Gamlin got where she rescues Hayate and then Mirage Kicks Freyja out of the picture.

Kawamori has said that he'd like to do a Macross without the three pillars (music, love triangles and battles), but the sponsors never let him. What if that was what Delta is? What if he gave us a pseudo love triangle to satisfy sponsors?

It's been a very long time since I saw it, but it's most definitely the weirdest thing I've seen from Kawamori.

Not even going to comment on the show crapping on Mirage some more, for it's much too depressing, so instead I'll focus on what Roid was saying in the opening. It seems they don't actually know why Earthlings live so much longer than they do, and apparently that's factoring into why they want to research the Protoculture ruins? Then of course there's the fact that Hayate's dad was the one who bombed Windermere, yet it not being clear to anyone who knew him as to why he did that. I'm this close to expecting to hear something like, "Windermereans' short lifespans are an environmental issue, so Wright Immelmann bombed the planet as an excuse to get them to start leaving".

Well whatever, idle speculation aside, I too liked the donut song that Makina sang.
