Mad Max or MGS5? I can only really play one right now, and I don't think I'll get to the other until after the fall games rush (so, 2016 realistically).

Keep in mind that I've only played MGS3 (and didn't finish it) and Ground Zeroes, and found both decent. I'm not overall a fan of stealth games, but I enjoy them every once in a while. I also like car combat and open world games (just finishing up The Witcher 3 currently).

To those who have played both, which would you recommend?

Max easily. MGS isn't fun at all.

I'm so not the guy to complain about reviews, in fact I usually agree with overall consensus on AAA titles but I can't help but think if this game were released a few months earlier, even late July / early August, it would have an 80+ metacritic

So I bought it yesterday for 20 bucks on PC and I have to say its freaking cool as hell. Fun gameplay, great graphics, runs great maxed out with my 680gtx and best of all it has the PS4 controller button prompts with simple plug and play. I've put 6 hours into it and have barely scratched the surface.

Does anyone else on PS4 find that after a few hours of playing the framerate goes unstable?

It is either the length of time causing it or the fact I have background downloads at the time but I am sure it has happened to me before when I haven't been downloading anything.

I played for about 30 min today while downloading destiny 2.0 and it randomly chugged (id say around 15/20 fps)for about 5 seconds while i was in combat with 3 guys. Then it was normal. First time I've seen it in about 6 hours of playtime.

I am experiencing more frequent frame rate dips now on the PS4 as well, and it can get pretty bad at times.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with how long you've been playing in one sitting. I played literally all day on Sunday, no frame rate issue the entire time. But the frame rate started dipping after I crossed over to Pink Eye's territory one or two nights ago, total play time on the save file is around 30+ hours or so.

Same here. The framerate got really bad after I made it to Pink Eye. Let's hope that there will be a patch regarding this issue.

I'm also having performance issues after crossing into Pink Eye's territory. I barely had any before that, but I spent a few hours above The Jaw in my last session and I hit numerous spots where it would chug or outright hitch for a few seconds. It's not even during intense moments, I could just be walking around a camp or driving through an empty area and the framerate crashes out of nowhere, like the game's having streaming issues or a memory leak.

On a more positive note, the color of the sand in Knit Sack and The Dunes looks even more like Fury Road than the early sections

How is the car handling? I couldn't really enjoy Just Cause because of that.
I would say they handle quite well at least on PS4. The game has a huge focus on cars so if they handled poorly it would definitely hurt the game.
I just drive around the area in circles until I hit a mine, have chumbucket fix my ride, then find the other.
Wait a sec, you guys take the dog out of the car? I keep him in the back and drive with him. Once you get to the minefield he begins barking. I noticed I can just follow the direction he is barking (ie wherever his head is pointing). The barking sound changes a little when you're right near a mine then it appears. Get out, diffuse, done. Takes less than 2 min. I didn't take him out of the buggy once. I didn't even think to do it.

How major reviews were so easy in picking out Mad Maxs flaws (for which there are a fair few) and so reluctant to say anything bad about MGSV in comparison is absolutely bemusing to me

I expect revisionism in a few months time when the hype has died down. Not to say I think MGSV is bad, not in the slightest but fuck me you can tell some outlets were afraid to say the slightest thing bad about MGS because of its heritage and vocal fanbase

So possibly odd question but when does this game actually open up? I finished act 1 with a bunch of tokens upgraded and then I'm just sitting around with chumbucket.
Overall the game is pretty fun so far the driving is good but max himself seems pretty slow movement wise I have no idea if that gets remedied through upgrading or whatever but the running feels slow the combat is fine but slower than I'm used to.

There's so many small technical issues that mar the experience a bit. Needs patching asap

Aside from what other people have pointed out, i'm having sfx issues

When i open the project part crates, originally the sound of him stomping it used to come through on the DS4, now i don't hear anything.

I also don't hear the metal clanking noise on the DS4 when you put/remove the fuel tank from the back of your car.

There are times where i'll fire my shotgun to destroy an insignia and i'll hear nothing at all.

Sometimes when i get in my car, there won't be any engine sound or revving until i've aleady been moving for a handful of seconds.

I've had my captions crap out on me even when they were listed as on.

Haven't played both, but ignore this guy:

I only just got Mad Max, but MGSV is fun as fuck. Come on.

The fatigue MGSV gave me was running into a location on the map and then, from knowing how the game was structured, dreading the fact that I'd be returning to that spot 5-6 times doing slightly different things. The part I like about Mad Max is that every location I take over will be the last time I need to head to a specific spot. I think liberal use of the quick travel would help get over it.

I felt the same initially about MGSV, but when it came to actually re-visiting locations, I've found them fresh and challenging and unique each time. So many different guard rotations, objectives and wider strategic contexts every time you approach. It's insane.

Yep, mentioned this earlier in the thread. Same problems, same area (Pink Eye). Really hope this is a patch-able issue.

Since switching to first person car driving, this has become one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had in a long while - like Forza Horizon 2 with shotguns and harpoons. Simple enemy encounters become pretty thrilling and convoy takedowns have been full of "holy shit" moments. It does make me think there's room for improvement, though - would be great if you could set to "auto follow" a car while you're busy harpooning tires off or blasting dudes from your hood, but I guess that'd take some of the skill away. Would also be awesome, as someone else mentioned, if you could do hand-to-hand combat on vehicles/jump from one to another after harpooning one. In any event, I hope some game takes the car combat, particularly in first person, and expands upon it.

Ok, Chumbucket's Airplance! reference is amazing

You talk to a random NPC and she says 'Surely this is your work'
and if Chumbucket is nearby you hear him in the background, 'Sure is! And don't call him Shirley'

Since car combat is heavily reliant on ramming, I found very difficult to play in first person when in combat. :(

I do use first person to driver around, though.

Maybe it'll get harder as I progress, but I've found that between the harpooning of rear bumpers/ramming opponents, using the side rams/grinding and focusing on disabling vehicles by taking out their tires/drivers/fuel tanks, that I've not really had to outright destroy cars with straight up ramming until they are already immobilized. I try to do the bare minimum to take them out of the equation in convoys and play clean-up after the fact. It definitely makes it more of a challenge, but also so much more satisfying.

Finally lowered the threat in Jeets territory to 0 and fully upgraded the fortress. Only took 20h of punching freaks in the face. On to the next area^^

I have noticed an issue with the map and/or quest tracker. Even though I've cleared all the minefields in one area and nothing shows on the map, the game insists that I have one minefield left. Also, one scavenging location refuses to go away, even though I've looted it 100%.

It means I can't reduce the threat level, which is a bother. :(

Happened to me too - if you take the buggy/dog out, it'll still point you towards the unmarked minefield. You should still be able to reduce the threat level to nil, in other words. Just might take an extra minute of driving around.

I just got to the third part of the world and the frame rate has gone to shit. On X1. I've noticed more problems with it since the update late lat week.

This game!

I was out exploring in new territory to the north-west of Gutgash's last night, literally out in the middle of nowhere, right in the middle of a car battle with two cars. And a sandstorm rolls in.

So I'm experiencing this furious battle where I can hardly see, when out of nowhere a car body comes rolling in on the wind and finishes off one of the cars I was battling. I literally lose sight of the other car when I spot this scrap box thing floating through the air, barrel rolling around. I take off after it, but it's futile as my car takes a beating from some rogue metal and I'm forced out of the car.

Chumbucket, like the fucking champion he is, jumps out and starts repairing while I run around the side of the car and take cover like the pussy I am. Palms are getting sweaty as I watch piece after piece of broken metal pound the car, but ol' Chumbucket's skills are too good and he improves the car enough that I can take off again.

I drive on, no idea where I'm really going, when another of those scrap boxes appears and I boost off after it. It takes me to a mountain side with a secluded canyon/tunnel entrance where I harpoon this box and sit with it, hoping to ride the storm out. While I'm there, two more of these boxes roll in and get stuck in the walls of the mountain.

When the storm finally cleared, I find myself in possession of ~900 scrap (plus 225 bonus).

Can't wait for the next sandstorm - fully plan on exploring in it again.

tl;dr Sandstorms are amazing.

Seriously considering this game.

I loved Mordor. I like the Batman games. And I'm a sucker for driving and car combat in particular.

Available for $20 all over on PC. Worth it?

Can't believe you're even doubting the purchase after ticking all those checkboxes haha!

Definitely.

Hmmm. I would love to play a game on my consoles which haven't been getting much love, but $20 on PC is hard to pass up!

Thanks for the rec!

Edit Purchased for $16, full game + DLC. Can't wait to dig in!

Anybody know the location of the treasure you get from the relic in the due time mission?

The tires? There's a stretch of highway in the northern portion of the map that's wider than the others if you look at it on the map screen. Just drive up and/or down it and Max will say something when you get close.
