MAD MAX |OT| Beyond Thunderpoon

That was my least favorite mission so far (I'm 75% done with the game and since they put the map patch out maybe I'll actually finish it since I'll have time before Fallout... that is if I put Wasteland 2 down). It helped a lot when I realized that if I
went down the different fork and went through the steam/water thing that it healed my car.
Once I figured that out I had it after 2-3 tries (I don't even want to say how many times I tried before that point and I was about ready to say fuck this game I'm just going to do side quests and forget the main mission).

WOW, that would've been helpful to know. I took the main path the whole time and guess I just got lucky once to take him out. They probably should've introduced that mechanic earlier or at least hinted at it during the actual race. No wonder I was having trouble with it.

Well I feel a little less embarassed that it took me so long to figure out. I do remember Chumbucket says something about healing you from the sidelines during the setup stuff before the mission which is why I even finally thought to check to see what
driving through the steam did
the second time I did it (I accidentally went down that path one time but didn't notice anything happening but did wonder about what that
steam
or whatever it was supposedly did as the first time it didn't appear to do anything from what I could tell. I then foolishly kept avoiding that path cause I was thinking it was something bad... though part of me did kinda start wondering cause of the chumbucket comment which is why I checked again.

I'm about 2 hours in the game.

Can anybody answer me a question about the dog from the beginning?

What happens to it after they blow up the stronghold ship at the beginning? He's dead?

Finished the main story a few days ago, after doing almost everything in the game possible (taking down all camps, looting all scavenging loacations, doing every side mission etc.).

The only things left are completing all challenges and completing a death run in legendary time with every archangel, which I can't be bothered to do anymore, because I think I already put way too much time into the game.
Some of the requirements for the challenges are insane and almost impossible to do when you already played through the main story and the racing part of the game was never my favorite part to begin with.

I'm sure it has been discussed before in this thread, but the ending
is absolutely stupid and basically shits on everything the player has achieved in the game so far. Max was never a likeable character to begin with (which I'm okay with), but the last 5 minutes of the game are just a huge kick in the balls. Luckily, I did almost everything there is to do beforehand, because after that ending I wouldn't have had the nerves to do so
. So if you plan on doing a lot of stuff in the wasteland, do it before you finish the main story, because otherwise your motivation to do so could be severely hampered.

Apart from that, I had my fair share of fun with the game and got ~52 hours out of it. There are lots of things to like about it and had they not screwed up the ending and the terrible (read: non-existant) scaling of the amount of scrap you collect vs. the amount you need to spend, it would've been even better.

Hello GAF, i'm a newcomer; please excuse my english, as it's not my native langage. I just wanted to thanks the gaf community for making me bought this game. I had a blast with it. I wouldn't have bought it in the first place due to all the mixed reviews describing it as an average and pretty repetitive open world. One on the reviewer was even telling to skip it. Anyway, i had 50 hours of fun with it, so thank you guys ;)

I also bought this yesterday. I don't like the Batman games and I don't like open world games... but I'm really liking this, for some reason, lol. The combat is pretty simple, but it also feels much better than the one in Batman games for some reason. Also, open world makes sense for this game, and I enjoy the driving. It's also so easy to make this run at 1080p/60fps! Superb PC port.

Guys! Guys! You guys!

Quick question:

I seem to like 'uninspired' 'busywork' 'open world' ubisoft style games.

I loved Assassin's creed syndicate.

I just realized yesterday that Farcry 3, Farcry 4, Syndicate, Shadow of Mordor are all games that i platinumed, because they're great 'turn off brain, listen to podcasts, watch youtube, do some mindless open world busywork' games.

As a matter of fact, i was underwhelmed by Arkham Knight because it contained too little busywork for my taste.

Is this one maybe totally up my alley?

It is as if Ubisoft had made it themselves.

I am like that too Fliesen. When I see some shit to collect you better damn know I'm going to collect it.

I loved this game. Played it almost 80 hours for 1000G. Perfect.

Just finished the story and a majority of the game. Great game, I'd say this is GOTY 2015 for me. I like all the small touches and attention to detail in the game. The artwork and graphics were great and there were neat parts like the way the sand would react as you moved on it (rolling, walking, driving). I would love to see an art book for the game.

In hindsight I feel bad that I got it on sale for half price before release. Would've gladly paid full price for it. Now to go watch the movies since I've never seen them...

Its sad its overshadowed by Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 is imo massively overrated. A 6-7 out of 10 game for me. Main story sucks, a lot of the side quests are boring, graphics are mostly bad (plus the PS4 version has framerate problems), character development was simplified, map is too small. ;p It has it good moments (like when it brings up good memories of the STALKER series), but after ~20 hours of playing it I am disappointed.

Anyway I'm trying to finish up as most of MM as I can (won't be going for a platinum unfortunately, can't spare 80-100hrs) before Just Cause 3 comes out. :)

Just Redboxed this game a few hours ago since I have the next few days off and I have been curious about this game. Will be picking it up on Friday on sale. I can't believe I slept on this game. In the few hours I have played it I have been having an absolute blast. Looks gorgeous on PS4 as well which is a bonus.

Too many damn games to play. Might as well pick it up when it's cheap even if I don't get around to giving it the attention it deserves. Such an awesome game so far.

Just picked this up yesterday at Best Buy. I feel bad I only spent $20 on it, I'm really enjoying this game. Especially in a time where I feel burnt out on a lot of gaming, it's a blast.

Think I am done with this game...had a good time but this shitty race against Slank Gun or whatever that you have to beat before your car explode sucks...you cant see shit and the car controls like crap, like always in this game but it was still manageable for convoy and all but this race is a frustrating mess...

Invest in better armor, keep using thunderpoon (if I remember right you have unlimited ammo in this mission), avoid as many traps as possible, don't use boost when you're close to a corner or a trap, try to memorize the track and use the shortcuts whenever you can.

Not sure its unlimited, ill check next time...my Magnus Opus his maxed on the V6 row anyway, the V8 row is still locked and everything else is pretty much max,I have no more sidequest for now...but I will try your tips and the repairing by going through the steam I saw posted above...otherwise I will get my nephew to share play that part,he finished the main story.

I may be wrong. Anyway I had upgraded Thunderpoon to the max before that mission and that should give you more than enough projectiles. That's probably the hardest mission in the game, but imo it's not as bad as the race mission from Mafia 1. :)

Ricker

Member
Yeah the Thundepoon is unlimited but thats not really the problem, not even coming close...thanks for ruining the game Avalanche with a stupid mission with a time limit and frustrating difficulty...why didnt you add someone to escort in the mission as well...smh.

Overall, the game got a lot more shit from reviews than it deserved. It isn't flawless but it's a lot of fun and under rated. The biggest issue I have is litany of weird bugs that happens when exiting the care, and other stupid things. Nothing game breaking.

The Open World collectibles aren't as obnoxious as say Unity, but proves this genre (if we can call it a genre) needs an overhaul.

I like the scavenge locations with tidbits of history but the scarecrows and the snipers were just monotony.

But, these Legend Challenge are some bullshit.... ranging from idiotically easy to esoteric and tedious

Thinking about picking this up today, so I thought I'd ask again:

No recent patch,I had no problems with it at all, played close to 70 hours...not sure it's 60,all I know is that its steady,no drops or crazy slowdowns...a big slowdown occured once,I had to save and restart but that was probably some weird glitch,I was fighting lots of ennemies with a storm coming, sand was rolling, wind blowing etc etc...

Loved this game, in my top 10 this year.

Bought this on the premise it'd be Shadow of Mordor with Mad Max, not quite the same but 5 hours in and enjoying it!

Sometimes I like nice simple games like this!

Tempted to pick this up, its £6.90 on cdkeys.com

Is the game generally received well? That OT title is the worst I've ever seen, but that doesn't mean the game sucks, right? :p

Got 9 hours to decide if I should get Mad Max on PS4 now, or wait till it hits $20-ish.

Though I also got Lords of the Fallen, still plugging away in Fallout 4, and some PS4 backlog to do. Hum.. not sure if I "need" it right now.. lol

I picked this game up on Black Friday because it was cheap and didn't care to play till now. It's addicting. I played for about 10 hours now. I really like this game. I'm surprised.

The world and just playing it is a lot more fun than I thought it'd be. It seemed really generic and boring but no. I like what it does and it's good to just pop in and go take some places out, scavenge and roam around. I have barely done any missions because I'm too busy exploring.

It's a shame this game's release date got pushed back. It could've gotten a lot of attention and done better had it released earlier in the year. I think it could've really been up there with Dying Light. Both games feel about the same to me.

this is probably the best running PC port i've ever played (technically speaking)

it's pretty fun too. a bit repetitive, collect-a-thon but i'm enjoying it.

I'm actually playing for 100% at this point, I love just fucking around and beating ass at various scavenge locations. The one trophy that has me worried is "Complete All Non-Repeating Challenges". Anyone have an idea what that means exactly? Just the "Kill 10 Guys with A Weapon" stuff? Because there are HUNDREDS of those and I don't think I'll ever complete it now that the world is way more empty.

Yep, that's exactly what it is - the completion of all challenges, with the exception of those that repeat (denoted by the 'completed x times' thing).

I had to grind for a few at the end, but most I picked up on the way through the story by keeping an eye on those that were close to completion, and keeping them in mind the next time I got in a particular car, or tackled a bunch of bad guys, etc. I don't think there's any way to completely lock yourself out of completing any by thinning the world of threat, but yeah, you might need to hunt a little harder for some.

Really glad I decided to wait to fill out my gaf GOTY ballot, because I think this has moved to my top spot.

I get open world fatigue pretty quick normally, but I'm loving this game. 35 hours in so far, I've got Jeet and Pink Eye's area's at 0, Gutgash and Deep Friah at 1, just finished
The Big Chief Mission and Scrotus fights
.

I've seen a few people compare it to the Ubisoft open world games, while I can kind of see that connection, I think it's much more akin to Sleeping Dogs (which I also loved) in regards to world and quest structure, collectables, combat, and challenges.

I'm not sure if I'll 100% it; the non-repeating challenges and death race achievements seem like they'd wear on me a bit to complete.

The one thing that sucks is, I've got the stronghold project where scrap is collected when the game is off completed at every strong hold, but in order for that to be effective I need to entirely quit out of the game (rather then leaving it in suspend/resume). I've tested this a few times, when leaving the game in suspend, then resuming a day later, I'll get anywhere from 300-700 scrap total. If I quit out of the game, then come back a day later I get 500 scrap from each stronghold.

Not sure if this is already common knowledge, but I came across a video that shows you how to change the in-game field of view and filters using photo-mode.

I'm trying to decide what game to start on my backlog next, and I'm looking for something simple yet fun to plow through.

My question is, if I just plow through missions on normal difficulty (not sure if you can adjust difficulty actually) about how long am I looking at for this game?

Probably 20 hours or so

I finished the game today and have to say it's really underrated. After seeing Fury Road 2 weeks ago I realized how well done (and close to the movie) the game is. All the gameplay elements are fun and there's something really refreshing about it with all the driving. I don't understand why reviewers rated this title so poorly and give Far Cry games high ratings :/ As far as movie/game combos go this game is up there with Riddick.

I think its because theres more unstructured fun that can be had with Far Cry games. The physics and weapons are practically begging for people to attempt goofy/ridiculous shit with them.

I agree though I had way more fun with Mad Max than Far Cry 4.
