I'm still pissed that HBO passed on this (although it was the right decision). HBO would have never argued with Weiner over episode length and budget.

I can't say I agree with that.

Matthew Weiner > Terence Winter

HBO should have backed the superior Chase protégé.

HBO picked True Blood over Mad Men and it was the right decision. True Blood is a ratings monster and they sell tons of DVD/Blu Rays on top of tee shirts, energy drinks, etc. True Blood pretty much bank rolls all of their other projects at this point. Mad Men is a critical darling, but HBO needed a surefire hit that would make them a ton of money.

First of all, I'd like to know more about this True Blood/Mad Men decision. Any good articles on it or anything?

From a purely commercial standpoint, yeah, it was a good move. But generally, I just think it sucks that HBO passed on Weiner and then backed Winter on Boardwalk Empire once they got some extra cash from True Blood.

Me too. What an unresolved story arc.

What's unresolved about it? He got fired and his marriage is most likely over. They gave us a pretty clear picture of where his life was headed.

My guess is that Sal ends up leaving Kitty and heads for Hollywood. I'm sure we'll see him again at some point, but I don't think he'll ever be a regular character again.

I was being flippant. I would just like to know who everyone's favorite character is.

Hmm.

That's a really tough question.

I've really come to appreciate Pete. I think he's had one of the most interesting arcs in the show. I find his relationship with Trudy fascinating.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and give Betty some love. I've always viewed her as a young Livia Soprano. She didn't have a huge role in Season 4, so hopefully Weiner will give JJ a bit more to do in S5.

If a film or television show isn't worth owning in physical form then it probably isn't worth watching in the first place.

We don't all have room for sprawling entertainment centers. My game collection is bad enough :-/

I'll buy the inevitable "complete series" value pack, but individual seasons? Guess I'm not a MM fan by your arbitrary standards.

Well, whatever. I just can't stand people that dismiss physical media. The very people that champion streaming media are going to be the very same people that complain incessantly in the future when television studios and movie studios bend the consumer over.

Whatever suits you. But I feel sorry for you that you place a higher value on the physical disk you hold in your hand than the actual content it contains, the same content I conveniently get on Netflix,
HD and all.

Don's a much better parent than Betty is.

I thought it was all too brief and though the arc might be resolved, it could be expanded much more. I'd rather see him getting more screen time than Ken Cosgrove (gross).

That stuff is pretty irrelevant when it comes to the studios loving to bend the consumer over.

I find the three women of the show the most interesting due to the society/culture of the time period so heavily clashing with them.

YES. My favorite episode remains "The Beautiful Girls" (Season 4) where they took a bit more time examining the struggles of Peggy, Joan and Faye.

That elevator shot at the end. #tear

Edit: Betty is an amazing character too (detestable, but amazing).

wasn't january pregnant during filming? seems like that would kind of limit her possibilities
