I'm just happy they finally said fuck don at work. No one is unreplacable.

Interesting.

I'm pretty unhappy with that myself. No matter what, some of the most interesting storylines that pop up throughout this show unfold in the workplace. Without it in the final season (assuming, of course, that this is indeed a termination and not a leave of absence), I can't help but feel things will feel empty to me.

Weiner's yet to steer me wrong, though. So I'll be impatiently waiting for next season.

A 2013 Don is going to be telling Sally and glenns child about how things were like in the 70's

fun adventures with Don and his kids in Cali, duh
lol.

Sepinwall says he has an interview with weiner about what the season finale means for the final season so maybe he'll talk about it....doubt it lol. Excited to read all his interviews though and post-season analysis. Always the best parts of shows ending for the year is reading the breakdowns from the makers themselves.

He's accepting his past, and embracing the person he truly is, while attempting to quit alcohol. I wouldn't exactly say he's a wreck.

Yeah, Mrs Mouse and I were saying that for being fired that was an incredibly upbeat ending.

Also, he still is rich, has his stake in the firm. Maybe he'll go to California with Megan and start something new.

Although I think she'll leave him regardless.

Don't know why everyone is saying next year will be the last - Mad Men execs have already said they are open to splitting the season ala Breaking Bad.

2015 - series finale. You heard it here first.

Personally, I hope they don't. I like that every single season has been uniform in length.

Oh please, no. Breaking Bad doing this totally killed the momentum of the season. I'd rather they take an extra 6 months off than split things up.

I can't see Weiner ever agreeing to split the season.

And speaking as someone who works in advertising who got laid off 7 days before Christmas, I feel Don's pain.

We'll have to wait and see, but I'm assuming they'll do one 13 episode stretch to finish it off. Last thing I heard earlier this month from Weiner:
Deadline said:
Weiner was asked where things stand for the show’s announced seventh and final season in terms of the writing. And the answer is: nowhere. “Not a word of it is written right now,” he said. “I’ll be back at work in mid-July. The writers come in the beginning of August. And then we start shooting in October.” By this time in 2014, Mad Men will be preparing for the end of the run. The speculation over how it will all end has been wild and unceasing, though of course Weiner would never divulge a thing. He said that he’s known how the series will end since season three, and that conclusion hasn’t changed. “The truth is that I honestly feel that I kind of wanted to hold stuff off for the end (this season),” Weiner admitted, “and they were like, no, you cannot do this. You can’t change the way you’ve done the show in the past. So when you see the finale of this season, like the finale of every season, it could easily be the end of the show.” He added that there is “no plan right now” to extend the series run into an eighth season, Weiner concluded.
I understand how you could play the technicality card like BB and claim that it's split into S7 part 1 & part 2, but given how tense the negotiations were between AMC and Weiner last time around, I doubt they want to mess around with how things are currently set up to complete the series.

Furthermore, I don't think they need any extra episodes to wrap it up.

Breaking Bad had a tricky endgame to set up, and it would undoubtedly benefit from three extra episodes. Mad Men, though undoubtedly a more cerebral show than BB, doesn't need to put any puzzle pieces together. It's a far more relaxed, organic narrative.

Alright, you'll hear my fair share of criticisms of this season, but hot damn at that final episode. It was so perfect, more thoughts after a rewatch at some point this week. Damn though, just damn.

Beautiful episode.

I think it was interesting how dreary the office looked in the closing scenes, while Don's old crappy whorehouse had the happy music and sunshine. Makes me feel like Don's life is going to start going up from here. Anyways, I felt happy he's now starting to tell his past to his kids, embrace the Dick Whitman part of him more, be more honest with himself. After how downtrodden he's been this whole season, season 7 might actually end with him being happy.

Next season will be very interesting. Wonder if Don even wants to go into that office anymore. We already know he has a whole lot of money and if the other partners buy his shares out because they don't want him anymore, then he's pretty much set to start another small agency again or just retire. They made it seem like Peggy will be taking Don's spot, complete with all the misery too.

Show was so fantastic this year.

Didn't Anna Draper used to live in California? or was it Florida?

Anyways, this show portrays New York as miserable and California as happy lol.

Really disappointing finale, was hoping for something bigger to happen as this entire season felt like foreboding to something tragic. Megan still not finding out about Don is weak. Real shame what has happened to Peggy as well, as she will be absolutely consumed by capitalism, with all of it's evils. That's not a criticism of the writing or anything I just loved the character and wish she didn't go down that path.

It's nice for Don's character that it seems he'll be able to find some peace with himself, but I don't know if that's going to be as interesting/compelling as him in a constant state of flux. I expected something worse to happen to him, he basically hated his job and wanted to quit anyway so being relieved of duty doesn't make my jaw drop.
