A declining show and a comedy spin-off. Hmmm...

I don't mean to argue, I just take issue with a lot of their decisions and what I see as AMC stalling out of desperation.
walking dead declining show? Quality has gone up critically and viewership is annihilating cable records.

Better Call Saul has good potential! I'll see about that though. But yeah AMC still has me for a while. Losing Mad Men will be tragic though.

and a comedy spin-off.

Yep. With a ton of the same writers and actors that made Breaking Bad what it was. Spin off's aren't inherently bad and this one has a whole lot of talent behind it.

I mean, stretching Mad Men out across two years is a stalling tactic, but I don't think it's one being made out of desperation.

Recently hit The Flood/For Immediate Releases/Man with a plan/The Crash in my rewatch. My goodness what a stretch. It's like watching a man falling a part internally as the world around him collapses. The Doorway was already a personal favorite but S6 as a whole is much stronger than I remember.

That review is pretty spoilery. Not sure if Weinermein is ok with it.
He mentioned Weiner specifically in the review as flagging certain things as spoilers or not, and even states that while "Weiner did not specifically flag these two moments, I will withhold them anyway". So I'd wager he's fine with it.

THAT BEING SAID: It is definitely what I would call spoilery so be aware of that if you are strict about going in blind.

Of what I read, some things don't surprise me and others shocked me in a way that only has me even more hyped for the premier.

Yeah, no pre-release videos, previews or reviews for me, the pics in this thread are more than enough. It's Mad Men. Been missing this show hardcore, can't wait for it to be back.

I haven't really kept up with this show, I'm assuming AMC is going to do a part 1 and 2 of Season 7 like they did with Breaking Bad, right?

i mean gotta milk it for all you can.

Is there a drama post 2000 to have as good as a supporting cast as this show?

Deadwood? Sopranos?

Also: (review thoughts)

I'm a little happy for Pete. Sounds like he's happy. Just wonder if Trudy will be involved at all. I could also see the show end in California completely.

I thought they shot both parts together?
Did they? I've read it both ways, but I honestly haven't looked into it recently.

EDIT: Interview from early March:
Where are you now in the process?

I’m writing episode nine. Right now, I’m definitely thinking about the pilot. We had a very emotional and fun evening at the beginning of this season. I showed the cast their auditions. There’s a little bit of that going on, like, “Can you believe this happened to us? A seven-year job in television?” I’m sure I’ll be a puddle, believe me.

Boardwalk Empire prolly has the best supporting cast of any tv show I've seen. Not only do they outshine the lead character but they could all easily carry their own show

I've been rewatching all of the seasons to get ready for the new season and just finished season 4 which I feel is the strongest so far....until that last episode when Don proposes to Megan after barely knowing her at all. That just reinvigorated my hate for fucking Megan. Goddamn do I hate her.

I remember watching that the first time and thinking it was a dream sequence, it really felt like one.

Maybe because the lead is the most boring character in the show :p

I can't take Buscemi seriously a lot of the time

Yeah I knew that point was gonna come up but even if nucky was as great as leads in other acclaimed shows that still wouldn't change just how stacked the supporting cast is

Michael Shannon as a supporting actor alone is just too good. Not to mention Omar, Stephen Graham etc

Just watched this as well. Fuck that minister from the scene right before, he deserved to get punched for such an awful suggestion.

Also just dawned again on my rewatch how emotionally powerful "Both Sides Now" is as a song choice for the finale. Hit me right in the feels.

I have zero idea how S7 will end, yet I already know that the only correct choice for ending montage/closing credits is Wake Up Everybody.

Wake up everybody, no more sleepin' in bed
No more backward thinkin' time for thinkin' ahead
The world has changed so very much from what it used to be
So there is so much hatred war an' poverty

Wake up all the teachers, time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen to whatcha have to say
'Cause they're the ones who's coming up and the world is in their hands
When you teach the children, teach 'em the very best you can

The world won't get no better
If we just let it be
The world won't get no better
We gotta change it, yeah, just you and me

In the end, I'd bet all my money that the show will be a story about how much people can change. For the better.

I think it'll be in part how different people handle life. Some adapt, some crumble, some change and others don't. I believe Don can change. Where we left him, he really has nothing left to lose.

Absolutely perfect song choice. It's as if it was written specifically with Don Draper in mind. People complained S6 spent too much time retreading old ground, and in many ways it did, but that was the point. Much of the season is Don desperately chasing past highs: his marriage, affairs, game changing business moves, Los Angeles, Betty, writing copy, so much alcohol, etc.. Where he found solace or adventure or some modicum of fulfillment in these things before, there's only emptiness. We witness Draper collapse in on his self as a result.

Post rewatch it's even more of a travesty Hamm didn't win for "In Care Of" than I thought. He finally submits a superior offering to Cranston's and gets robbed by Jeff Daniels? What a joke. This season was some of Hamm's finest work which is saying a lot.

Completely agree. He was incredible during the Hershey pitch. I remember when I watched the finale, I was speechless during that scene.

spot on, mate.

It would be CRIMINAL if Hamm gets robbed again. He deserves the Emmy.
