I love the show but it's the whitest thing since white came to Whitetown. Maybe I'm biased because I'm black =\
As the token Korean in this thread, sure it is due to the setting. That's the point. It's emblematic of how we view change as it happens, and the show is definitely about nostalgia breaking. I still find the core themes to be timeless.

Duplicity
Perception/Reality

Plus the office dynamic is...exciting.

YES! SO CLOSE!!!!!!

yeah but considering the time and place I let it rock.

Yeah I have to do the same but it still kind of bothers me a little. I did a marathon of season five and I found myself wishing to see a black dude added to the cast. The black secretary was added but there was no character development at all.

I know it's just the setting of the show but it's still damn depressing =\

History is depressing.

well despite the period the show is set it in mad men is about feminism and women's issues to a huge degree, but i do think the lens of the show being focused on advertising limits its focus on race outside of the power of omission.

there should hopefully be more stuff about it this season as we come to the end of what it has to say about the decade though.

I am sure race is going to be a bigger and bigger part as it goes on.

Also Ginsberg >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Glenn.

I love him as an addition to the cast. I hope we see more of him.

Yeah, I get the point of the show. My point is it's really depressing and it bothers the crap out of me but I love the show...It's very strange.

I understand how you feel. Also keep in mind a show about an Advertising agency in 2013 would be hard pressed to find an African American male character.....

The best show on television returns to wash away the shit taste The Walking Dead has left us with. Thank you based Weiner.

I stopped after s2. I thought people liked s3?

I don't want to shit up this thread with Walking Dead discussion, so all I'll say about it is that the season started out strong and progressively got worse and worse, culminating in a godawful season finale.

No, I agree with you. I thought it was gross the way Dawn was introduced and then quietly pushed back to being scenery.

We've had multiple background characters gradually morph into critically important parts of the show.

You can't expect a character to be introduced and immediately become a principal. Mad Men doesn't work like that.

Uh, Ginsberg? When characters like that get introduced and elevated in the same season, there's not much of an excuse.

Oh people talking about the race thing.....

ANYWAY

So fucking excited omg. Having a watch party with friends are we're all drinking old fashioneds.

Whatever, I'm still giving Weiner some benefit of the doubt because he has two seasons left to flesh things out.

Ad agencies in the 60s were so racially diverse. It's clearly a show of Weiner's prejudice.

Surely you can understand why a copywriter hired for a key account would be given a greater role - at least initially - than a secretary.

Tokenism is not a virtue.
