Damn dude, I can really see that this is hitting home...
Unfortunately, people tend to "get into" being ultra critical of things even if they know they could never achieve it. I mean, look at a bad sports team. I'm from Cincinnati, man, the home of the Cincinnati Bengals! Things have been looking better recently, but there have been so many years of them getting steamrolled. Do you think the people insulting the team really believe they could play football better than any of them? I know I sure as hell couldn't get out on that field and do what they do.
What about movies? Have you seen how defensive Uwe Boll gets when people bash his movies? He acts like he just can't believe it and that they should not be doing. He actually said that everyone critisizing his films were just a bunch of nerds that could do no better. Guess what? He's right about most people not being able to do better. I could never direct a movie even remotely close to those...
Hell, people bitch Bush all the damn time...but most of them probably couldn't even begin to handle that job. He may have failed in comparison to others before him, but I don't believe for a second that all these people complaining about him could do any better. I mean, we have these hollywood movie stars threatening to LEAVE the country over him. There is no f*cking way that they could magically fix everything up.
Does that mean that people should simply stop judging things? I really don't think so. I mean, people become REALLY passionate about their hobbies. Sports fans go absolutely crazy over team performances and what not. It's a HUGE deal to them. We're game fans (seriously), so we tend to go overboard sometimes JUST LIKE the fans and critics of many other things.
I really don't think it is justified, I suppose, but really, it's not as if this is something that "game nerds" only take part in. Critiques of this level are everywhere, everyday (and often MUCH harsher). I don't disagree with you, necessarily, but that IS the reality of all forms of expression.
