I just picked up the 3rd expansion and the core game. Are the other two must haves or can I get by without them?Aaron said:Expansions are all currently half off.
Edit: I was talking about the Steam version.
Depends if your main focus is online or not. The other expansions add more to the campaign and challenges, but the 3rd exp has the decks people are playing online, for the most part.SapientWolf said:I just picked up the 3rd expansion and the core game. The decks in the other expansions are worth owning if you can afford it. I believe they also affect sideboard cards in your other decks (non-exp 1 or 2). So you'll be limiting yourself from playing with a full sideboard, which is pretty important.SapientWolf said:I just picked up the 3rd expansion and the core game. Can't you just select that? Back when I played ranked I only did 1v1 because I hate the kingmaker aspect of anything more.Speevy said:The players of this game online (PSN) are just rude.
Half the quickmatches I jump into kick me out for no reason at all, and the others are multiplayer matches in which I'm being ganged up on.
I wish I could just play one-on-one every time.

Any suggested fixes that are likely to retain my data?
Eggo said:I played 1000 ranked duels on PS3 and wrote a thread with the results on the Wizards forum. Link here. It's safe to say this is my favorite game of the year. Playing online versus strangers is a lot of fun. I highly recommend it. Also, all three of the new decks in expansion 3 are great.

Stainless put out job reqs in December for people interested in working on Magic the Gathering licensed products. I get the feeling that they're making something more ambitious than an expansion.Tomcat said:I hope they will stop with the expansions and give us a full-blown sequel with online coop

I actually didn't realize there are multiple ways to solve the challenges. Even though I solved it on my own, something happened (I'll ask below) that I was trying to better understand and youtubed a playthrough and that guy did it completely differently. And I saw a slight alternative to his method as well that would also have worked.
Now my question. Spoilers for challenge 8 (my solution is included)...
So I started off double incinerating her platinum angel.
Then I used the knight's ability for extra 3 health, then I cast the +3/+3 sorcery in my hand on the knight. I also put out my Rip-Clan Crasher.
So I have a Rip-Clan Crasher, 8/8 knight, and Mist-Meadow Skulk. I also have my Soutarm Giant Legendary out as well. I attack with the Crasher, 8/8 knight, and Skulk, he taps his 1/1 vampire to instant kill my 8/8 knight. I tap Brian Stoutarm to sacrifice my 8/8 knight and deal 8 damage to her. So I deal 8 damage, then whatever other creature she doesn't block kills her.
What is weird to me is why does Brion Stoutarm get put into the graveyard in this tussle? It doesn't matter, I win anyway, but he should just get tapped when I sacrifice the other creature, but for some reason he's going into the graveyard.
What am I missing here?
Try creating a match, instead of looking for one. Apparently, many people are looking for matches, and not many are hosting them, so I've had much more luck hosting matches on PSN.scoot3r said:Ive been devouring this lately, used to play alot of this in my younger days. I can never find online matches tho im up at odd hours! Wish they'd just give us magic online for console but cheaper.

Edit: anyone know when exp 4 is due to come out?
I don't know if there's even going to be a 4th expansion. I thought I read there were only supposed to be 3. I'll be pleasantly surprised if there are more, though.scoot3r said:Cool thanks George, and is Vampires really as OP as people are saying? I like that u/r deck pretty well. when i hopped back on i made it a mission to beat this deck just like i made it a mission to beat elves back in the day. now against elves i could win a ton but against this w/ a different deck it's 50/50 at best yeah it's super overpowered way more than elves ever wasGeorge Claw M.D. said:I don't know if there's even going to be a 4th expansion. As for the Master of Shadows(vamps) deck, it's not unbeatable, but it is definitely overpowered. The core deck is easily the strongest in the game, and can dominate before you even unlock any sideboard cards. The mana costs ramp up, nicely, with the ability to drop first turn creatures. The cards in the deck are extremely synergistic, and allow quite a bit of flexibility in controlling the board. Vampire Aristocrat is a very easy card to get on the board, and allows all kinds of tricks during combat. It also negates spells like Persuasion , Tendrils of Corruption, etc. There are also plenty of ways to remove opposing creatures from the board, including creatures with protection from black or shroud. It's an easy deck to pick up and play for a beginner, and it's down-right nasty in the hands of a skilled player.
jedimike said:If you're trying to get the 100% complete achievement, do it before you buy the expansions. As soon as you buy a new expansion, the completion percentage drops and you'll have to unlock those too. Normally not a big deal, except for the damn co-op mode where you'll find yourself using both controllers to complete.
George Claw M.D. said:Your opponent has a Dread on the board, with an ability that reads, ""Whenever a creature deals damage to you, destroy it." When you activated Brion Stoutarm's ability, and damaged your opponent, it triggered Dread's ability, thus destroying Brion Stoutarm.
The decks are a little bloated but you can't trim them. I feel like this game is a learning tool that's meant to eventually transition people to something else. Probably whatever it is Stainless is working on now. Maybe something like a light version of MTG:O geared towards consoles.GuessWho said:you know i really love this game but the biggest problem for me is that most times you can get 5-10 rounds of just mana. It's so frustrating and happens quite often.
I wish this game wasn't so streamlined. Maybe it's because it was intended for a console audience? I honestly don't know why you can't customize decks, why certain parts of the turn phases auto complete, and so forth.
Eggo said:I've started a blog to discuss sideboard choices in this game. The first deck covered is Wings of Light. I'll try to do two updates a week until all the decks are posted. My sideboard choices are based from experience playing the deck at least 100 times apiece in ranked online matches.
