you'll need 2 Dismembers for her.

Or 1 morbid activated Tragic Slip.

Love the card. A big middle finger to Day of Judgement.

It's honestly not unreasonable to get her out in a decent amount of time with all of the ramp out there. Naya Wolf Run Ramp, anyone? Think I like the sound of that.

EDH is really driving a lot of the talk for a ton of cards, and this one is getting a lot of theory crafting over at MTGS.

I think the price of Magic across the board is going to go up as EDH becomes more and more popular.

Spoiler for the new set.

Nothing major.

/sarcasm

My kaalia deck. /drool.

Anywho, I have a list for my Kaalia here, I apologize in advance for the format, it's loaded off of a friend's Deck Builder Program. I'll work on editting it into something more recognizable, does anyone have any suggestions on a program/website?

edit: Deckbox link http://deckbox.org/sets/155931. Sideboard is potential/maybes/extras.

So far in my limited proxy-playtesting, my main problems are the many low-cost counterspells for Kaalia (which is just something I'll have to live with in Teferi/Syg/etc. Blue EDH decks, which two of my friends just love...) and dealing with enchantment or artifact stallouts/control if they get going before I can Kaalia enough fatties in. Also, I know the curve is a bit wonky, I'm working on it (that's where some of the more out-there choices like Dragonmaster Outcast come from, it's semi-filler). There's also a slight mana starved issue sometimes, but I've been told repeatedly that 30ish lands is about right.

I tried to address protection for Kaalia with Swords, Lightning Greaves, and some spot removal, but am unsure of how to really address problems like missing some big angels or dragons by turn 5-6 when other decks are well underway. I can sub tutors in like old Liliana or more than just Diaboloic/Demonic Tutor, but am not quite sure how to proceed.

I admit my not knowing a lot of the older sets, so anything obvious for EDH that I'm missing would be greatly appreciated, such as Land Tax mentioned above which I just switched in. (never miss a land drop? Seems pretty good...)

I'm aware that Kaalia is a "gimmick" general, and that she's kinda like Uril in that you either stomp hard enough by turn 6-7 to secure position/a win or die a slow quick death. Just trying to work with her is all.

edit: Wow, swords are more expensive than I was led to believe. Will probably substitute stuff like Mother of Runes or hexproof boots.

swords are expensive? they've been progressively worse after fire and ice!

The current batch of swords, two out of three of them are super expensive. Even the "bad" one (Body and Mind) is like a 12 dollar card, but you're looking at 35 (Feast and Famine) and 45 (War and Peace) for the other two.

Man, Magic fans are some whiny assholes, eh? Avacyn dies to removal! Shit card!

Actual reasons given to why the card sucks from a player: "And Vapour snag. And Liliana. And Tribute to Hunger. And Geth's Verdict. And Mana Leak."

Seriously? Calling a card shit because a fucking counter can graveyard it? That's the same with every single card in existence!

Definitely very powerful but I'm a bit disappointed that she feels so...generic. She's just big and powerful.

Yeah, something a little more unique would've been cool. I do appreciate from a flavor perspective the fact that the Helvault is one of the cards that can get rid of her in the block.

I didn't even mention the ones who thought it should be a 4-5 CMC. Kids these days...
Maybe if she were a 3/3 I could see that, maybe. But not really. You should have to go out of your way to play her. An ability like that is practically game over if it resolves in many situations

Nah, I could not see the indestructible ability on anything less then six, so at least they gave her a body to match

What I dislike about Avacyn is that she is simply another win condition with no real creative applications at all (in Standard). It's just a matter of getting her out.

If you're in turn 8 as W/x, Avacyn is just one of many cards you can play to win the game.

It seems to be to me that they made Avacyn with EDH in mind, to be honest.

Maybe I should jump back into MTGO and play EDH :3

Lol.

I can already imagine the confusion when you drop that in a multiplayer game.

If I have 2 or more Delver of Secrets in play, at the beginning of my upkeep, do I draw one for my hand, and then reveal the next top two cards to try and reveal an instant/sorcery?
Or do I reveal for each card, then draw the card for my hand?

Reveal then draw. Phases go like this: Untap, Upkeep, Draw

You technically look at the top card twice and can reveal it each time to transform both of them. You then do your normal draw step.

Delver never draws you any extra cards.

Right, there is also that.

1. Upkeep step.
2. Delvers trigger, you decide the order in which they go on the stack. Let's say you put Delver A on the stack and then Delver B on the stack.
3. Delver B resolves, you look at the top card, choose to reveal/not reveal it, transform if it's an instant or sorcery. Then you put the card back on top of the deck.
4. Delver A resolves, you look at the top card, choose to reveal/not reveal it, transform if it's an instant or sorcery. Then you put the card back on top of the deck.
5. Draw step. And you draw a card.

Whoa. Okay, but if it's not an instant/sorcery then the reveal each time does me no good. I was kind of hoping I could draw one card for each.

If you have instants that let you draw a card you can try and force a second delver to flip.

So for example. Upkeep phase, look at the top card, it's a land, cast think twice draw the land and reveal for your second delver and hope it's a sorc/inst.

Yeah. That could work, sort of risky, but hell yeah.

1cc for draw a card every upkeep...

If such a card made it through R&D I'd imagine it would be banned on prerelease day.

And everyone involved with its creation demoted/fired.

You guys made a believer out of me with Delver. He's won me more than a few games. And he's so damn sneaky. If I have him and Mindshrieker on the board, they'll remove the bird every time. Then BAM. Transform and roll out, bug boy!

You'd think they'd know by now, especially since Delver is the backbone of like 75% of the top decks right now.

I like Avacyn, mainly because I've always loved massive creatures that smash face, and in INN block I've gotten progressively more interested in playing White. (Pretty much play W/G now, with G as my favorite overall color).

Still a bit disappointed that she isn't B/W, and doesn't create Angel tokens upon entering the battlefield, but nonetheless I like the cut of her jib. Will definitely try to snag a few after release.

People don't like mill in any fashion. Shrieker isn't really mill, but it can mess up their plans and get stronger and it costs so damn little.

Merfolk looter is 2cc =)

You still have to discard.
Dark Confident is the best example, it comes with a heavy penalty but is still one of the best cards ever.

Except when they thank you for hitting a land to thin their deck out and you've just paid 2 mana to do nothing. It's not a good card, and people wasting removal on it aren't very good players.

...you just don't like anybody's deck. :p

maybe wizads wants new creature decks to break into vintage so they're making them progressively stronger each time they fail.

when they make a 4/4 uncounterable hexproof with double strike for 2 mana, they might be almost there.

I will soon have 4 angelic destinys and I was wanting to build an unexpected deck around them. Something other than an angel deck. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Lingering Souls tokens and Drogskol Captains? They're cheap Angelic Destiny targets.

EDIT:

Ah, totally missed the "unexpected" in your post. Yeah...spirit tokens aren't very unexpected.

Avacyn seem like she might make a decent general (although for that much mana, just go with Iona for one more). A decent bomb in limited (although if she was a 7/7 for 7 or even better a 6/6 for 6 she would have been epic in limited). And complete useless in any other format.
