Thanks undu, but I managed to get it to work by downloaded all cards including unhinged and unglued (which I had been leaving out before).

Still feels glitchy somehow though. I tried a local game to get a feel for it and noticed that it doesn't move through phases on its own, keep track of life or counters or what the cards do. Which I suppose is asking waaaaay too much but oh well.

I really like the idea of using Cockatrice to play with Gaf people. I havent used it before (used MWS a lot way back), so I'll have to set that up.

Played a Stoneforge Bant list with stifle/waste at my Legacy tournamen, played really well. Beat out Hive Mind combo, Elfball combo, and Affinity. Split with Goblins in the last round since my breakers were terrible and might have dropped to 3rd or 4th had I lose, and I wasn't super confident in the matchup. Beat him in two games in casual play.

I really missed playing Knight of the Reliquary in decks with stifle and wasteland, been a month or so since I last played New Horizons. 7/7 and higher Knights were pretty much the rule.

Nope, not counters.
It goes away at the end of the turn.
You can pump 10 swamps a turn and make it huge, but it goes away at the end of the turn.

Love the old art though.

Now, how does that work with older cards? It doesn't say "until end of turn." Don't you have to go by the actual card text?

The assumption with older cards was unless it stated otherwise it was until the end of the turn.

Ya, if you ever read the rulebook if a card is the same name but has different text you must always use the newest text when playing so it would be until end of turn (which is how all of them should be).

Just spent $100 on CoolStuffInc. The cards for two decks, more cards to repair/toughen my current decks, random booster packs and other nonsense are on their way.

Someone snap my debit card in half, please? ^_^

Ah, well. Guess I'll take those out, then. Speaking of buying boxes, are booster boxes of new sets hard to come by? Should I pre-order or will they be around after launch?

Nah, never too hard to find.
Some stores have Buy a box promos but most stores seem to magically be out of the promo foils even if you buy the first box that they have.

I hear ya. Spent $100 on 28 booster packs and $50 on singles for my infect deck.

So im downloading Cockatrice. How do we set up games with each other? can we have multiplayer matches or even EDH?

So, what's the best way to buy a box of random uncommons and fares? Is that even a thing?

One of the things I put in my order was the Instant Super Collection on this page. They have other types/amounts you can get there too.

This is my first time ordering it, so I'm not sure what I'm going to get exactly. Of course, searching eBay is certainly another option. ^_^

That's cool. You ought to let us know what you end up getting.

is it a grab bag of the latest sets or of everything?

Have you guys been sanctioned? I know if you aren't they don't send them sometimes. No one wanted to switch to two scars so we're still doing two MBS.
Yeah, the store is sanctioned. I think when MBS first came out people wanted to crack packs, so the majority were in favour of the 2MBS 1SOM style, but now that most people have all that they want, they want to do it the proper way. Hopefully, I get a bit more success this week. Definitely need to watch a draft video or two, I always feel like I picked the wrong card when I pass to the guy next to me and his reaction is disbelief that I didn't pick a particular one.

Question: are they still sending out plastic cards for DCI membership? I've had a paper card since July despite having participated in all 3 pre-releases since and enough FNMS. I know they stopped the Rewards program, but did they also stop sending out membership cards?

Also, what's the pre-release event format for the third set in a block? 3/2/1 from newest to oldest?

I wasn't going to bring my tempered affinity deck to the Legacy Open in Rhode Island but after seeing that a tezzeret affinity deck won the Dallas legacy open (and how well mine did at that local tournie) I might actually consider it (with some tweaks).

Rhode Island might be rough, because the best Legacy players in the US play in the NE. I would imagine the difference in skill level, especially at the top tables, between a Legacy tournament in the deep South (like Dallas) vs. one in the Northeast would be huge.

Affinity is still a good pick as long as the hate doesn't heat up too much. There are some cards out there that are literally nuclear bombs against that deck. So don't ever compromise your speed for any kind of safety cards when playing unless you absolutely have to (e.g., storm combo) . You don't want to be looking at a slow hand while your opponent enlightened tutors for a Null Rod.

When playing EDH, is the combat damage from each commander individualized? If I get 10 damaga from one commander and 11 from another , do I lose or only if 1 commander accumulates 21 damage to me?

Can I make a EDH deck out of only Standard cards? Its all I have right now :/

The one I picked was a grab of everything. They do have rare grab bags from different sets in that link. ^_^

No, its 21 damage from a single general.

Yes, most places/people will let you build EDH out of whatever.

yeah, the northeast is where it is at. the biggest and hardest PTQs in the world are in the ny metro area and also somewhat ohio/michigan.

I think this is why I managed to surprise even myself with that deck (seriously, I was the only person to go undefeated going in top 4...I keep talking about it but thats cause im still shocked. I was playing some of the top decks and top players in my state). My deck is even faster than standard affinity seeing as it ignores ravagers and disciples in favor of adding in lotus petals to get a turn 1 master/temepered steel/equipped cranial plating. It just comes out so fast that even decks running null rod and engineered explosives just couldn't get their responses off fast enough.

I doubt very very much I will do even remotely as good in Rhode Island, but my only other option is to play a friend's legacy deck that I am 1. not as comfortable playing 2. doesn't belong to me so it feels like part of the satisfaction of winning is diminished. But I still have some time to decide.

I also got my 2nd foil praetor's counsel. No one wants them. :(

There is always a market for foils, sometimes you just have to wait a while until it's harder for collectors to get them. You'll probably never get good money for them, but eventually someone will want it. There are guys like my buddy who has been trying to make his Type 4 deck completely foil (if the cards are available as a foil). He almost has it too, about a 1000 card deck, almost all foil and filled with every rare you can think of. People like that are always looking for foils to complete their collections.

I am putting together a deck for councel , I am determined to break the card casting cost be damned.

Got the card today WanderingW, thanks! Appreciate your effort on this one. :)

Oh, good!

What the hell people? I thought normal players loved foils? Are we just a bunch of freaks, or what?

I hate the the curvature the foiling causes after a while and, in some cases, the look. There are cards that look better in foil, of course, but, on the whole, I prefer non-foil.

All that said, as an EDH player, a foil Praetor's Counsel sounds pretty nice.

Given the choice of playing a deck I'm not familiar with and a deck I am familiar with, I'll almost always go for the one I'm more familiar with. Knowing your deck's tricks and how they work with other decks is way more valuable than anything else. I could take a pile of stifle/wasteland garbage - and I often do - to my local Legacy tournament and place 1st (or 2nd due to bad breakers), because I've played it for a long time now and know exactly how the cards work together.

So I put this deck together for standard and I was curious what you folks thought about it. I'm giving thought to dropping the Spire Barrages for two more Acts of Treason, but I'm not certain if creature control is more important than just blasting the hell out of the other player. ^_^

I like the split. Both can deal with creatures, but the barrages give you reach and the ability to close out a game. Act of Treason is a great card that can make an unwinnable game winnable. I don't think you always want to see either one of the cards specifically, but you're pretty happy with seeing one of the four total each game, so the 2/2 split seems fine.

For whatever reason all the cards in the event decks are super, super curved and there are no foils. :(

Is this a new thing? When I last played in 2003/2004 I had foil cards and they definitely didn't "bend" like this before. Even after I lay something heavy on them to "iron them out" they are still curved... it was never this bad before.

Deck protectors/ binder pages seem to help a lot.

I was so mad yesterday, we played pack wars which was pretty fun but the kid after me who bought his pack got a steel hellkite and a foil mimic vat. :(

I won some packs at FNM from draft and I pulled a Foil Sword of Body & Mind, so now I got the 2 Swords in foil. I put them in a sleeve and then in the binder, really don't want them to bend.

Not bad, I don't see the point of spire barrage, I'd rather have a fireball/red sun's zenith.

I wish I had pulled the sword during the draft, even just a single Darksteel Axe was my MVP of the night. This has been my first sanctioned game in a long time, why do people play creatures without haste or any revelant ability on their 1st main-phase? Almost all my opponents did this?
