Heh, post what you have and we'll tell you if there's anything oddly valuable.Copernicus said:They have sleeves and shit! Some are in acrylic!

Maybe I'll dive into my boxes this weekend.
effingvic said:bought a dozen booster packs yesterday and got some fairly crap cards. i got a few decent stuff but nothing really that i want to put in any of my decks. the best i pulled was an ajani goldmane (which made me squeal like a girl. its always nice to get a badass card that you want) and i also got a birds of paradise, ratchet bomb and true conviction. the rest were crap like fetch lands and shit so im fairly disappointed. didnt really get any commons or uncommons that i wanted either (why the hell is it so hard to get mana leaks???????? its a C for fucks sake)
whats the point of these lands anyways? they seem utterly pointless and a total waste of a rare card.
anyways, i added some white sun zeniths, 3 ajanis and 3 felidars to my cat deck and its surprisingly strong. hyenas umbra has saved my buffed up pridemates a bunch of times, and white sun zenith + ajani really brings the pain. ive never pulled a felidar in any of my matches sadly so i usually end up overwhelming people with an army of 2/2 cats. im thinking about adding some angels feathers and honor of the pures as well, but not sure what to take out for them.
also, i have some questions about infect. how does it work? every time it attacks it only gives -1/-1 counters? so whats the point of infect creatures with like 3 power?

Leunam said:It will give 3 -1/-1 counters. Couple that with Proliferate and it's pretty nasty. Someone on here had to fill me in as well.
Hex said:If you mean the Zendekar fetch lands (lose one life go get a swamp or a forest), I have grown rather fond of them and will always trade for them.
Misty Rainforest, Verdant Catacombs, Scalding Tarn, Arid Mesa, Marsh flats.
Let me know.
Edit:
A 3/3 infect creatures gives 3 -1/-1 infect tokens.
When you thrown in First Strike and Double Strike it gets really confusing lol
effingvic said:holy shit. so my vatmother will give -4/-4? does that mean 4 poison counters as well if he damages the player? damn good thing i didnt give that guy away.
also, i totally didn't seem to think of using proliferate with it. thats incredible haha!

(2)i have a scalding tarn and arid mesa. what do you use them for? they seem like theyd be good uncommons at least but rares? i feel like im completely missing something. i also got a mystefying maze and valakut something something, who sounds nice but i feel like ill never get a chance to use their abilities.
(3)double strike means it does damage twice? so the infect creature would give double the counters? like once for "first strike" and the same one again during the regular exchange?

I think that's my highest card in thedeck 5/5 gold.

WanderingWind said:I'm sure other players can do it just fine, but I'll never play with a card that causes life loss. It's not like there are cards that can't do something equally awesome without the expense. I don't think (outside of the ancient nostalgia cards) I'll be holding on to cards I plan on never playing with. I'm sending out damn near 4000 cards today that I bought, sifted my favorites out of and have no further use for. I mean, even rares that cost only a couple of bucks are useless to me if nobody I know wants them.
On a side note, I think I'm totally done buying anything beside singles until the new stuff comes out. The best card I got last night was a lotus snake or something like that, and even that I'm never going to use.
siddx said:Wait...lotus cobra? I pulled one the other day too, thats a 20 dollar card. Although it will likely drop.

It's sold, baby. Thanks for the heads up. I wonder what else I have that I could trade back in.

A) Hold on to a card I have no interest in.
B) Try to sell cards online
Neither of those appeal to me, and I like being able to trade cards in for value toward packs and whatnot.

siddx said:I can see that, although you'd be surprised how many cards you have no interest in now that as you continue to play, you'll suddenly have a whole lot of interest in. I made that mistake with my primevil titans. I had three, wasn't using them in anything, so I traded them off. Now I am kicking myself for it.
Akim said:Well, buying packs is also terrible value, but I guess some people like it. I just buy the singles I need, it ends up being much cheaper, and I never get garbage I don't want. You could also just make a trade binder and bring it down an hour or so before a Friday Night Magic and trade with other players.
siddx said:Fetchlands are also key in legacy decks as they let you search out the dual lands. I always hesitate to trade or sell any fetchlands I get because they will continue to rise in price as time goes on.
Magic has a lot of cards that to casual and even some hardcore players don't make a lot of sense but are popular.
Dark Confident (Bob) for instance. I never understood the appeal of drawing an extra card at the expense of life. And looking back at all the times I have played against it, I have seen it work out well perhaps 10% of the time, be a hindrance 70% of the time, and actually kill my opponent for me 20% of the time. I see it run in decks with tombstalkers which just seems insane, more than once an opponent has pulled a tombstalker with it and taken 8 to the face. And yet it is run in quite a few decks and still goes for 15 bucks (50 if it's a foil!).
Some of the other cards I never got I just had to have the combo explained or I figured it out on my own. Things like grim monolith which seem like a terrible deal until you factor in things like voltaic key.
An-Det said:Bob is fantastic. Play it with some kind of library manipulation like Sensei's Divining Top and ride that shit to victory with little to no life loss and huge card advantage. More often than not, if left unanswered, Bob usually wins me the game far more than I die to it.
I never trade in or sell a card worth less then five bucks, its just not worth it in case I ever want to use it one day. But the Mox Opal I pulled at the Scars prerelease? My THG partner and I sold that baby on eBay and recouped the cost of the event.siddx said:I can see that, although you'd be surprised how many cards you have no interest in now that as you continue to play, you'll suddenly have a whole lot of interest in. alternade said:Interesting to see all this talk of selling. Ill never sell my cards, i don't really attach any money value to them. Even my mythic rares if they don't do anything for me strategically I could care less how much there worth. IMO there's too much emphasis on the expensive cards and decks being the good ones. With all the cards available, especially in legacy, you can make a formidable deck without it costing $300-$400-$500!

Scars, 2011, and Eldrazi are large sets, so you'll get a wider variety of cards but less duplicates. Besieged is a smaller set, so you will get a shitload of duplicates, most of which will be crap but there's always a chance of duplicate staple rares, as well.alternade said:Deciced to pick up a booster box after work. Should I go with Scars, Eldrazi, Beseiged, or 2011?
How well would a standard deck fare against a legacy deck?
Holy crap, Frag. You still playing DAoC?Fragamemnon said:Legacy control decks are so metagame inbred that you might be surprised how effective a standard deck can be against them. That being said, you're going to have a real rough time against one of the premiere linear aggro decks like Zoo/Merfolk/Goblins and especially combo decks, whose clock you cannot hope to beat and who will chew through your available disruption very quickly.
That's good to hear. I remember you fell off the face of the planet once DAoC consumed you... D:Fragamemnon said:I stopped playing when WoW came out (which I also don't play anymore). You drafted 3 MBS? My LGS went from MBS-MBS-SOM to the proper MBS-SOM-SOM format starting last week and I pulled nothing particularly good when it seemed like everyone else was pulling mythics (Venser, Wurmcoil, Skittles, Consecrated Sphinx just off the top of my head) and I was the one who distributed the packs! Deck was another RG fail. Oh well, I walked away with a third GFFT, two SOM dual lands, and a third contagion engine.Zaraki_Kenpachi said:I pulled a Thrun, Hero of Oxid Ridge, and Red sun in my draft tonight but never drew them somehow and as a result got destroyed.O well, nice cards for another deck at least.

I'm having difficulty since changing to MBS-SOM-SOM. I went from making competent decks to straight garbage two weeks in a row. Maybe it was a poor choice of colours, or a bad luck with packs; I dunno. I really should watch some draft videos to figure out what I should be looking for. Also, for whatever reason the store didn't get FNM promos this week.![]()
