Damn I fear some planeswalkers control -type decks will be nasty.

Anyone already playing with the G/B Zombies deck idea? I ordered a playset of Trolls and Decays already :b

tamiyo and the new jace together are nasty.

Do you guys think using the Guild Gates as dual lands 9-12 in two-color decks is reasonable for a slower deck that can deal with having a tapped land in their opening hand?

Sure. Five color decks a few years ago would play 12 lands that came into play tapped, and it was okay for them. 4 for you should be no big deal.

Edit: Assuming that no other better duals are available (meaning, you're already using the Shocklands and M10 duals) and you don't care about your basic land count

gates are the kind of thing I used when I didn't have enough proper dual lands for whatever reason. And even then I often just said fuck it and went for basics instead. A land that comes into play tapped is never a good idea. They are nice for edh though.

I'm gonna buy my box or two of RTR and maybe take a small break from buying for a bit.

Too much damn money into this game already lol

only way I managed to quit was moving to a country that doesn't sell magic cards. and even then, Im planning on buying some when I visit Thailand this winter. It's a good thing too, now that I'm making a decent paycheck, I'd be spending way too much on cards. Now I can actually use the money for something useful, like an investment in the future that isn't printed on a cardboard.

I am making a 360 card cube and would them all to be sleeved. I will also need extra sleeves for lands. So (1) Is this a bad idea? (2) Any have a fully sleeved Cub? How do you like it?? (3) Where can I buy about 500 matted MTG sleeves? (online, my LGS does not have matching matted sleeves at that quantity.

No, it's not a bad idea. I don't know of any legitimate cubes that aren't sleeved, especially since people like to pimp theirs out with foils, altered art, etc. The only suggestion I can give in regards to it is buy a good brand of sleeves. At the time I wanted to be a cheap ass and bought some ultra pro sleeves for my cube since it's not like it was a tournament deck but the sleeves are so shitty and a few break every time we cube now that I'm just waiting for enough of them to break before I replace them with Dragon Shields.

For bulk sleeves check eBay.

Potomac Distribution has great prices on the Ultra Pro Matte sleeves. $150 gets you free shipping- great for getting a group order together.

I'm just starting to get back into MTG. I played it when I was like 11. Recently been playing the PC game on steam and was reminded how fun this game can be when played casually. Got some cards today and plan to build a deck. I have a couple friends that play and know a bunch of people also that are into it.

Definitely try out booster drafting at some point. Probably my favorite way to play. Just get everyone in your group to bring 3 booster packs.

Oh god, Cube back next week for 2 weeks. First week is paying out Cube credits and Mirage block packs, 2nd week credits and Tempest block packs.

I'm skipping 2 of the 4 pre-releases I planned on going to to save the money for cube, and perhaps some Tempest drafts. Cube is the best!

I wish the kid we were cubing with didn't go back to college. It was so much fun to cube this summer.

EV-wise I think that's a bad idea. RTR Boxes have a current box value of $150- meaning $25 prereleases pay for themselves, on average.

Is running 2 Transguild Promenades in a 3-color limited deck just asking for trouble? I feel like it is.
Not at all. More than 3 might be, though. Depends on the type of deck.

Ya, and there are a good amount of normal rares that are worth something so you don't have to hit the jackpot on some mythic to brake even.

Goofing with the Draft Bot. This set is pretty tough, I keep trying to stick to a theme and end up with 5 colour nonsense. :p

Ooh, there's an SCG Open here in Cincinnati on RTR release weekend. Might just go and do a bunch of side events. Probably won't have a Standard deck together yet. Though the idea of playing in an almost entirely untested Standard environment would be interesting.

And I could get the cards I need with on-site delivery...

Not to mention that certain things are at the "pre-premium" at prerelease events.

Planeswalkers, and other rares and mythics and even uncommons and some commons can be traded for 2x-3x what they will settle for a week or two later just because people are in the frenzy.
It is a great time to unload a shiny new planeswalker or something for some staples you may be looking for from past sets.

What card shells do you have right now? I think Angel (of Glory's Rise) Reanimator is the way to go Day 1.

And if you open Vraska? TRADE HER IMMEDIATELY.

I think I'm gonna jump in on this prerelease at my local game store Saturday. I'm to old to do the Midnight release.

I haven't done tournament MTG since Tempest.

Vraska maybe the only PW I play with, but he'll yeah. Selling PW off as soon as possible has only ever worked in my favor. JTMS is the exception, not the rule people!

Ya, even Ajani has gone down a lot. Not sure what he is now but I got mine about a month or so ago for $17ea.

Edit: HOLY FUCK YOU CAN GET HIM FOR $13. FUCKING MADNESS

Edit 2: And thundermaw is $11! Want to buy cards so bad. ;.;

The other thing to remember about prices is just how often RtR is going to be opened for drafting. There will be so much product opened over the next few months there is going to be plenty of supply; if you're not desperate for any particular card, wait at least one month before buying singles.
