Magic: The Gathering |OT|

Dominion is a lot of fun, and super deep. I've enjoyed every game I've played, and would put way above Ascension. Haven't gotten to try Soulforge yet.

Soulforge isn't actually a deck building game, but a proper make dudes and battle game like Magic.

So, B/R Rakdos midrange is just stupid. I never play aggro decks, but I'm getting my best win % in years with this deck.

The deck epitomizes "There are no wrong threats, only wrong answers." Also hugely rewards knowing when to hold back.

First draft on a standard deck idea. Let me know what you think. I don't even have counters to popular decks or anything in mind yet. It's all based on cards I have available to me, I haven't even looked into buying cards for it so all suggestions are welcome.

Everyone, do yourself a favor and read PV's article on CFB today on "getting good"
http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/pvs-playhouse-how-to-become-good/

When you play against Ben, you have to watch out, because what you don’t do also gives him information. I remember, for example, when I played Primeval Titan against him in a Limited game, and got Swamp and Forest rather than two Swamps, upon which he immediately concluded I didn’t have Corrupt in my deck. Then, three turns later, I attacked with a dude and he knew he could afford to take it rather than blocking, because I wouldn’t be able to kill him without Corrupt in my deck. Then I played Corrupt and killed him. Nah, just kidding—I didn’t actually have it, which is exactly why I should have gotten two Swamps. To me, it was trivial, but it mattered to him.

A particularly interesting situation happened when we were testing for PT Barcelona, and Josh came back complaining that, “testing was not being realistic,” and games at the PT would have gone differently. We then found out that Web had started with both Champion of the Parish and Gather the Townsfolk in his opening hand, but had refused to play either until turn three, when he played both. That made the Champion immune to Josh’s Pillar of Flame, and won him the game. How many people would have done that, in Web’s spot?

I wish I could do stuff like that....

The Champion/Gather thing is coming up for me a lot with Rakdos- you don't really want to run Falkenrath Aristrocrat out there naked if you can avoid it, so you hold her till you draw a creature to feed her.

Mind posting a decklist of what you're running? Would be interested in seeing how it looks, haven't kept up with Magic in a few weeks and since I started playing Mtg back in the day playing B/R I'd be interested in playing it if it were competitive.

The list that won the last GP, with +1 Swamp, -1 Mountain, +1 Hellrider, -1 Hellkite.

I also suspect Archwing Dragon is playable in this deck in certain matchups. Almost all the removal good enough to hit it is Sorcery speed.

I don't play this deck exactly, but what gets my r/b deck is Sigarda. If I play hellkite it gets selesnya charmed, and everything else can't deal with sigarda. Any tips?

Yes.

anyone interest in giving me moto tickets for paper cards? I got a blood crypt and a temple garden!

I can probably do this, depends what you have and what you're asking. I need to cash out of MODO...

I love archwing dragon in the current meta where the best removal is O ring type effects , wog effects and sever the bloodline effects he is hard to deal with and with the decks I put him into tying up the mana never hurts.

Hey guys. So a friend is playing Isochron Scepter and has chosen a spell with an overload ability, can he cast the overload using Isochron Sceptre?

The Star City Games Baltimore Standard Open has 663 players, two more than Grand Prix Charleston had two weeks ago for the same format. 10 rounds of swiss. That's the Northeast for you, wow.

Yup. I went 6-4. Had two matchups that seemed pretty bad, a mulligan hell, and one where i just didn't draw enough removal vs Mono-Red.

It's not mythic though. There's nothing about that card that says "mythic" other than its power level in Limited.

It just never should have been printed I suppose. Or just printed in some sort of non-draftable set.

It never should have been printed at that mana cost. Likely needed to be 1BB.

Pack Rat should have been printed in Commander or Planechase instead of a draftable set- its a card clearly targeted to casual players, so put it in a product marketed at them instead of having it warp limited.

The whole point of the card seems to be "Relentless Rats deck in a single card." Getting rid of the ability would stop that. I think just adding a tap to the ability cost would go a long way in 'fixing' it.

I've run into a couple of mono black decks trying to run it in the just for fun room. They were awful and got crushed.

The problem with most constructed Pack Rat decks (mine included) is that you think you need to go Rat tribal, when it really works best in a B/W Token shell. Something like Pack Rat, Lingering Souls, Doomed Traveler, Blood Artist, then Killing Wave/Mutilate.

Yeef is spot on. Tapping would have been fair, even could have reduced the mana by 1 with that.

Wandering Wind - Some of it, but in moving it I also acquired a Champs Mutavault and sealed box of Worldwake...

Somehow ended up with an extra playset of Geist of Saint Traft.
Selling for $110 if anyone is looking for them. (or $29 each)

I know, right?

I want to have a store too.

Anybody in SoCal want to franchise?

I'd have thought about it if you were still in the area over here. Damn you!

In other news, I'm thinking about making this weird legacy deck. I happened across a shit ton of dual lands for a decent price.
