Protection from Green is pretty relevant for many matchups, so Mirran Crusader isnt a bad replacement for it. The conditional evasion and higher cc are decent tradeoffs for being much better with a sword in combat. Could do much worse. What are you missing from the deck besides the Avengers?

I realized afterward that the event deck wont release for another few weeks. I probably wont have much trouble getting them then, and even if I do all I need are the SFM's anyway which will drop at least some.

Building a D&T deck sounds fun as hell. Always being able to find cool interactions when playing the deck is a deck I'd love to own but the cost of Karakas is too backbreaking and there is no substitution for it (Riptide Laboratory could possibly). I don't proxy so that's not an option either.

Since these are sold are big brick and mortar outlets like Target, you should be able to find them for retail the week of launch. Card shops won't be able to get away with major price gouging- this isn't a from the vault type release.

I'm trying to make the jump from limited/edh only to legacy myself and it's certainly quite an investment. I will say that the format looks a lot more interesting than I ever gave it credit for, though.

At least the Legacy staples are, for the most part, here to stay. Unless a piece gets abused and is seeing play everywhere it won't leave Legacy which is one of the best parts. People spending tons on Standard only to have it rotate out could do a lot of wallet damage.

I'm kinda scared they might pull a fast one and reprint Force of Will or Wasteland.

Even if they did, you might be surprised at how the originals don't change much. Grim Lavamancer, for example, got reprinted in the Premium Deck: BURN box and the old ones are still fetching a good 60% more than the premium foil.

Those two cards will sent a wider reprint at some point, it's just a matter of when.

Damn, the fact that Stoneforge is in the event deck pretty much guarantees that it won't be banned in Standard.

That's a shame; I played in a Standard event the other day (my first in a long time) and like 90% of the field had four of them in the deck. Just ridiculous.

I dunno. So far, I have been spending at max $200 to get a TONS of nice looking cards, all from Besieged block, went to a few local tournies, had fun, we play games with my girlfriend regularly, and I am looking forward to the next releases. It is not that big of a cost, especially since I stopped buying new games (It is doable, I play mostly with Blizzard games, fighting games and games I get to review - those wont need me to buy the game, obviously)...

So that means as long as I am spending around $50 max per month for the Magic, it is golden. Sadly I do not have 500$+ lying around to start buying overpriced cards

I would love for this to happen, but Wizards has a stick up it's ass regarding reprints of things not on the reserved list (and making functional/better reprints of things that are, given the legal problems surrounding the List). The hit on my collection's value is vastly outweighed by the value of a format anyone can reasonably play and thrives for years to come.

Today I found the joy of all blue troll decks.Played my friend and would get down to like 20-6 every game. After that, I had the mana and Spells in my hand to do whatever i wanted lol

I have not played since 96 but after reading this thread I decided to pick up a Phyrexia pre built and three packs. I pulled crap from the three packs but the pre build came with a pack and the rare was "Sword of War and Peace".

I can see myself falling back into this addiction quite easily. The rules have changed a ton though.

Edit: Just saw the link you posted on the last page. You also have a Sword of Fire and Ice that I could use. The Karakas is Italian? I guess it's functionally the same, so it doesn't really matter to me. I'm afraid I don't have Jittes, Forces, or Merfolk staples, though. Most of my collection is Alara forward. Closest thing I have would be some Mental Missteps.

you'd probably have a chance if you faced down something heaily creature focused like a sliver deck.

alot of 'good' standard decks are good because they rely on the assumption that certain things are impossible. I mean, caw-blade would be murdered by any deck with force of will.

Legacy is 1.5. Pretty much anything that is restricted in Vintage (Type 1) is banned, with some exceptions, and there is no restricted list (everything is either 4 of or 0)

A lot of legacy decks really only work if they are piloted right. So, if you are playing someone that doesn't really understand the deck, yes, most standard decks could win. If they do know the deck good, and really want to play to win, then most standard decks would be toast.

Speaking of legacy, almost finished my mono red Goblins (still trying to get some piledrivers, but is sleeved and plays alright) and got about half the cards I need for Dredge and Affinity. Also need to decide on what merfolk I want to run, and will be finishing up that deck. Now, just need to find someone else who wants to play legacy.

Slivers probably isn't the best example, as that's a casual legacy deck at best, but I agree that it the majority of Legacy decks look far more intricate in what they demand of a pilot than other decks so you can definitely take one down in the right circumstances with a standard deck. Plus, a lot of the card choices are very specific to the metagame. Mental Misstep, to use the latest example, wouldn't put much of a dent in a standard deck, but it destroys a good number of Legacy staples. If you actually managed to reach higher levels of mana, your creatures would also outgun their's. Tarmogoyf may be a superstar in Legacy, but I can't see him facing off well against a Grave Titan. Of course, this is all assuming they haven't comboed off on you, wasteland-ed your mana base, force'd said Grave Titan, etc. before now.

Ya, since the upped the pack amount and being $5 more with the beseiged fat pack you always get 80 now. With the increase you got an extra pack, deck boxes, and now 80 lands instead of 40(I think it was 40) before.

alright, lets all let out our inner Johnny for a bit and post some fun card combos that were cool to build decks around, the odd cards that did powerful things and changed how the game was played but werent quite up to tourney spec.

as someone who has missed the last few sets, im curious what new stuff has emerged. these were all combos i had decks built around at one point or another, most of them are painfully common, but i always liked decks that won without needing big creatures. being surrounded by burn decks, green decks, dragon decks, etc in my playgroup i always liked subverting the giant army ffa playstyle that was so common in our games. with the smallest of armies i could pit friends against each other by holding instant kill combos over the heads of both players.

I own multiple sets of both and hope they get reprinted to hell (both paper and on MODO).

These are huge barriers of entry to the format and would really promote the growth of Legacy.

Yup. So all sources deal poison counters to me with infect, but they all lose infect thanks to Melira, so I'm immune to damage.

Yup. So all sources deal poison counters to me with infect, but they all lose infect thanks to Melira, so I'm immune to damage.

It's risky too since you have no counters in white or green so they'll die eventually most likely.

I tried out for the Great Designer Search (didn't make it past the quiz), but my block proposal was a return to Ravnica that didn't go with the ten even guilds model, instead pitting Green and Red against Blue and Black in a major Nature vs. Society theme. Pushing things to be even more steampunk in one direction, and even more "Gruul" in the other.
