i ran into a bit of controversy regarding
ember hauler when i played on friday and i want it clarified.
i had a couple of scrub creatures attacking (things with power and toughness of 1 or 2), and my friend blocks one of them with ember hauler, then activates its ability to take out the other. i questioned the legality of that play because it sounded too powerful. he said he also thought it was weird but had someone explain it to him over and over and was convinced.
given that ember hauler is a key player in RDW, the ruling on this should be pretty well understood right?
i did some digging and it seems that was permissible before m10, where damage used the stack and therefore meant that it could be chained once added on. but i still think it weird since during resolution of the damage, i would expect that the creature still needed to exist for it to occur. sort like with spells that target: if the target doesn't exist anymore, it just fizzles. so if the creature isn't there anymore, it should fizzle too..
