Takuan said:Flipping back to NPH... any speculators in here? Now that many of us have checked out the complete spoiler, what screams money? I just checked on SCG, and none of the Praetors are prohibitively expensive. It seems the early money mythics are the new Sword, Obliterator, Karn, and Batterskull. Only Karn and Batterskull look like they'll hold value for the first month. Caw-Blade isn't going to be stupidly dominant anymore, which will bring the prices of all the Swords down, and now that we know there's nothing in NPH that particularly supports the Obliterator's ability, I see him falling *fast*.
Then there are the rares! We've got Melira, Puresteel Paladin, Surgical Extraction, the W/G Chancellors (B/R/U are kinda meh), the Torpor thing, Myr Superion, Hex Parasite, Birthing Pod, Jor Kadeen, a bunch of others...
I'm tempted to buy two playsets of Urabrask, since he's only $5/pop to pre-order off eBay and seems versatile and powerful enough to see significant play. The RW legend is also pretty neat and appears to be a staple in RW Battlecry. Starcity Games has priced Vorinclex at $4; may bite on those. If the Titans don't get reprinted (though I think they will be), a bunch of these cards are skyrocketing in value, no doubt about it.
There is so much goodness in this set. I get excited just typing about it. I'm such a fucking nerd.
siddx said:Go grab a magic card and do that. It doesn't hurt it, in fact it's the best way to check if it's a real or a fake. Fake's will immediately crease down the middle, real cards won't. I would never ever buy any power 9 without doing that bend check first, way too many fakes out there.
Maybe he got them mixed up with the gold bordered promo cards they printed years ago?Zaraki_Kenpachi said:I figured as much, it's the kid who's the judge at our shop and he freaked out one day about it and went on a rant about someone at the world championships got disqualified it and a whole big story. We were all confused.

Love Spellskite, too. Just a very interesting card. Someone mentioned this in an MTGS thread, but I'm curious: if you had a Spellskite in play and your opponent attempted to equip a sword to one of his creatures, would you be able to use Spellskite's ability and effectively "steal" the guy's sword? Equip counts as an ability, correct?V_Arnold said:-Spellskite: Finally a preventive creature. Will be a must-have if my gameplan resolves around ANOTHER creature, and want to keep that alive![]()
His value will be primarily determined by Standard performance. If he's a staple in dominant black decks (and he very well could be), he'll keep his value. I don't feel as though he's a game-winner in the competitive scene, but NPH changes things up so drastically that I don't really know what will become of Standard. But I don't think he keeps the $20 price tag.siddx said:Also, while I do think Obliterator will drop in value somewhat, I still think it might see good play in mono black aggro decks with tombstalkers, discard, and dark rituals/cabal rituals. Drop a few discard cards first turn or two, a dark ritual/cabal ritual to get obliterator out turn 2 or 3. And then a tombstalker turn 4 or 5 to back him up.

Also, really curious to see how Mental Misstep changes the legacy/vintage landscape.
Hotness. Didn't know what it was until I looked it up. Legacy is expensive!Picked up 2 Lion's Eye Diamond today. Slowly working my ass into Legacy.

Mono Blue unlocking vs Mono Blue Jace AI.
5 hand 20 life vs 9 hand 40 life for me.
I start out with Kraken's eye x1 Get up to about 60 HP while Jace is countering and stuff. You'd think I'd have it right?
Eventually...
I've only put a dent in his 20 life at 16. He brings out memory erosion as I'm going against a shit ton of creatures he's summoned. Kraken's eye x 4 (SMH for full deck unlocks for him) to where the game ends in a draw nearly.
I'm sitting and playing YOU SHALL NOT PASSSSSSSS hoping to take him down via mulligen/0 cards left on next turn.
End of the game, I'm at 8 Life. Dude brings in a 5/6 creature I haven't prepared for after taking out his shit ton of creatures with my 4/4 Flying Elementals and a few unicorns.
0 hand/0 cards left.
"FUCK."
Next turn?
Him: 6 hand/1 card left.
OH SO CLOSE TO BEATING HIM. ARGH. I hate the blue deck in DotP. It always turns into a wall-fest as soon as he can get his cards out.

Aside from the gems people mentioned, you can use dice, as well. I bought a snazzy-looking set of smallish die (36, I think) off trollandtoad for about $9 before shipping. Less popular colours can be had for quite a bit less.hoverX said:Total noob question: what do people usually use for counters? The latest sets seem to have lots of cards that rely on counters. Do stores sell something?
Yup, it's all a game of chance. 4 mythics in 10 packs is insane luck.Zaraki_Kenpachi said:Bought 10 packs and got 4 mythics. Got hero of oxid ridge, lux cannon, sword of body and mind, and glissa. Wish I could get at least ONE sword of feast and famine... Do all mythics have the same rate of pulling or ?
Right? Ordered a playset of him just because he's so crazy (and very affordable). He was less than $3/pop, I couldn't say no. I'm going to find a way to cheat him into play in Standard, damn it.The_Technomancer said:What the fuck at the blue Praetor.
dschalter said:TES is fucking hard to play, so be careful. basically only one person has done well with the deck, bryant cook.

WanderingWind said:Oh, yeah the AI in DotP cheats like a motherfucker. Just today it used an Eyeblights End on two creatures! Murderous rage causing.
Equal to the creature's Power, yes.hoverX said:another noob question: Just finished playing in real live (as opposed to on xbox) at a friends house. We weren't sure how to handle poison counters. If a creature has Infect and they do damage to a player is it only one pt. or points equal to the creatures strength?
