I have no idea, tbh. But a real store like TCGplayer or SCG has more cache with me than random people on eBay.

I've never been ripped off on eBay personally.

Ya, but by buying a playset it was a decent amount cheaper for some of them. Now I'm worried. :/ They had expedited delivery too so I should have it for friday.

That's what I was hoping. I hope I have everything by friday like it claims for my elf deck :D

Oh, shit. Didn't know you were looking for elves! Those are my speciality. I went batshit when I came back into it on elves and bought tons of...well, all of them.

lol.

Favorite tribe ever.

Haha, trying to make a standard legal one. Finally going for it since it's cheaper. :p Archdruids are like a buck down from like $6 or so before. It's mostly ramping elves into titans or using kessig wolf run and ezuri giving everything +3/+3 and trample and regen everything.

Oh. Well, good luck! I love elves but trying to play them standard seems to be a deaths sentence. I couldn't make it work for the life of me. Which is why like, 25% of my posts are me wishing they do a serious return to goblins/elves/faeries/vampires/knights set after AVR.

Well right now it's pretty much.

4x viridian emissary
4x green sun
4x llanowar
4x primeval
2x inferno
4x elvish archdruid
2x ezuri
3x incinerate
2x red sun
3x copperhorn
2x thrun
1x garruk primal
1x karn
4x mutagenic growth

then lands I don't have enough of everything but
4x rootbound crag
1x copperline (wish i had 4)
2x kessig wolf run and then majority forest with like 4 or 5 mountains

I sort of want to get rid of the mutagenic growths since they don't seem to actually do much most of the time. It's been ok so far. I haven't played tier 1 decks though so I'm curious how it does this friday night if my singles come in. Feels so satisfying to turn 3 a titan though. :D

Edit: Maybe titan growth will be more worthwhile than mutagenic... I'm not sure, I'm just usually disappointed when I draw it. :/

It's a real shame for you Thrun isn't an elf lol

You've pretty much just built a wolf ramp deck, you've just replaced some cards with elves haha Nice spin on a current staple. I like.

Edit: Mutagenic is better because of the Phyrexian Mana surprise factor, in my opinion.

SHUT UP! It's an elf deck god damn it! :P I have won a good amount of times from ezuri + arch druid. Archdruid gives you so much mana usually it pays ezuri's ability itself and then the rest of my actual mana to regen and it rolls over people. When you have like 4 or 5 elves that went from 1/1 copper horn or llanowar to all 5/5 with trample and regen for 1 it causes people issues.

Edit: Haha, I wish thrun was too. I didn't have him in at first but in a green deck the hex proof and can't be countered is just insane. I just can't see not playing him.

Edit: Ya, mutagenic is good for the phyrexian but I'm usually not hard pressed for mana and the extra +2/+2 just hasn't been a huge factor. Like I said, I'm just usually disappointed when I draw it, I'd prefer pretty much anything over it when I draw it. Not sure what I would swap it with though. :/

Well that's certainly a card. Don't know if it's playable with Vapor Snags running around everywhere, but the idea of your board having an additional twelve power from a single 5cc card is fairly entertaining.

That's worded weird. Does he get the +4/+4 too? Or just the other creature he's paired with

Wait, can you soulbond to any creature that you own? Or do they both have to have soulbond?

Can I soulbond this sucker to like and Invisible Stalker and have a 5/5 stalker and 8/8 wolfir silverheart?

You may soulbond to any creature you own that is not already soulbond...ed..... So yes, the Stalker play is valid.

You can bind to anything, not just soulbound guys.

How does this work exactly?
You pay 4 mana, tap this card, then exile a creature, then when you want it back you pay 4 mana and tap it again?

Nope the card vanishes and then comes back.

It serves 2 real purposes:

1. You can save your guys from removal. Someone doomblades a dude you have, you can flicker him to save him.
2. You can use it to retrigger "enters the battlefield" abilities. Like mentioned above you can keep flickering a stonehorn dignitary to completely remove your opponents ability to attack you.

EDIT: A 3rd use would be to set up a chump block and then save your guy.

Yo tokens. G/W Human tokens!! Gather the townsfolk and like Mayor of Avabruck yo damn

EDIT: O wait dies to counter and removal, shit card

Haha, luckily that hasn't gotten old for me yet. AND OMG GREEN. I want green to do well so bad. I had a green deck for so long last block and it just never was very viable. :(

No, its all one ability. Say your opponent wants to vapor snag a creature. You activate Nephalia's ability in response to vapor snag, creature is exiled, vapor snag fizzles, creature returns.

No, the card is exiled and immediately returns to play.

Technically the card returns to play and then vapor snag fizzles because the game sees your card as a new copy than the one that was originally targeted. Semantics, I know, but this can be important.

Ah OK, thanks for clearing it up.

What about Legendary creatures that are indestructable? They get exiled and then put on your side?

I actually had a feeling something was off about my explanation... Haven't used blink mechanics much, so thanks for the heads up there.

Huh? I don't follow. It just leaves and comes back immediately. I don't understand what legendary or indestructible has to do with it. It's a shittier version in some ways to venser's ability.

So I dug up my magic collection, and the last time I played was during the Scars of Mirroden pre-release. I had totally forgotten that I won half a box!

Here are the recently uncovered forgotten treasures:

Code:
Elspeth Tirel
True Conviction
Shape Anew (F)
Geth, Lord of the Vault
Memoricide
Kuldotha Phoenix
Eruzi's Brigade
Darksteel Juggernaut
Ratchet Bomb
Etched Champion
Tower of Calamities
Steel Hellkite
Myr Propagator
Strata Scythe
2x Wurmcoil Engine (1x F Promo)
2x Razorverge Thicket
Blackweave Cliffs
Copperline Gorge

I'm glad I still have some great trade fodder after not playing for years.

Ya, I'm thinking about just buying singles from now on. There's so much "lost" money with cards you don't want/need. I think I'll just buy cards as I want a deck... Still debating though, since it is fun opening packs.

I used to be like this, cracking open packs on a whim.

Now I just keep it to a couple 8-4 drafts once a week. It's a lot more manageable that way as you get both your pack crackin fix on along with some games as well and then if you win you get even more packs to crack to cure that itch. Although at my LGS I usually just split the 8-4 and convert the packs into store credit.

Eh, it's not that same opening a pack you're using to draft with. I usually don't place in top 2 either for draft.

For me its basically the same thing. I end up with full playsets (and then some) of every common and uncommon from all the drafts I do so the only reason I even care about ripping a pack is the rare/mythic and foils.

It's always funny after draft night here at the LGS, there are like entire decks just sitting on the table. People will just keep the rares and dollar uncommons and literally just leave the rest of the deck on the table for other people to scoop up on their way out. These people are crazy :(

Picked up 2 Swords of War and Peace and 6 NPH (JP) Boosters at C2E2 this weekend. Not a whole bunch of Magic but that was too be expected, kind of a smaller Con on the line. Had fun, friend got a couple artist autographs.

I've been working on a deck designed around curses, and I think it is ready for the gaf critique. Gave it a first run last night and it surpassed my wildest expectations, going 5-0 against some of the toughest decks in my play environment.

Some notes:
-The whole point of the deck is curse damage, that's not something I'm willing to change
-Didn't need my creepy dolls at all (which actually made me kinda sad), so those will probably be the first thing to go.
-Cards marked with a '*' are those I'd like to add more copies of; this was a first draft. I haven't bought singles for it yet.
-Many of the decks in my play environment use a ton of creature removal, and I'd like to keep the creature count down to make those cards as useless as possible.
-I am not looking to build a hyper-competitive deck...just a fun one that'll shake up my play environment a bit. >=]

CURSE WORDS
61 cards

Creatures
Bitterheart Witch x3*
Creepy Doll x4

Curses
Curse of Thirst x3
Curse of Bloodletting x2
Curse of the Pierced Heart x4
Curse of Death's Hold x2
Curse of Misfortunes x2

Other Spells
Devil's Play x3*
Fireball x2
Incinerate x4
Tragic Slip x4
Blasphemous Act x2
Sever the Bloodline x1*

Land
Mountains x12
Swamps x12
Dragonskull Summit x1*

Curse of Death's Hold turned out to be more critical than I expected, and I already have a couple more of those so that'll be my first addition. Might throw in another Misfortune, Thirst and/or Bloodletting as well. The problem is all the 5cc spells. The Xcc damage spells help a little with this gap but I think I can do better. That's the main area where I'm looking for advice: any 3- or 4cc spells you can think of that would work here?

Thanks guys.

My initial reaction to your deck is that for the first few turns you're not really doing much at all. Of course, being in BR means you don't really have the luxury of decent 1 drops so there's not much that can be done about that.

Another concern is that your deck runs out of steam rather fast. Unless you have Curse of Misfortunes in your opening hand or Bitterheart Witch to tutor up the Curse of Misfortunes, your deck will be way too slow. I don't think Blasphemous Act and Fireball belong in the deck.

Some other cards that might help your deck:

Whipflare is for taking care of token/aggro decks. Tribute is for getting rid of big bads that won't die to Curse of Death's Hold + Whipflare.

I would also recommend Desperate Ravings but since you're not running blue it kind of loses its appeal. Do you think you could possibly splash Blue for Ravings and Forbidden Alchemy?

Tribute...that's a good idea I had not thought of. I will definitely run that next week. Thanks! I had planned on getting rid of the fireballs and BA, so I agree with you there.

As far as running out of steam goes...I did have that concern on paper but it did not play out like that at all. Once the opponent has 3 or 4 of the 5cc curses up the game is basically over....the trick is getting there.

Edit: and yeah I am seriously considering blue splash.

Holy shit...I will take 4 please.

That's gotta be one of the best cards thus far.

Utility lands are always good, 5 out of the 7 in the past two sets have been 100% playable in top decks and the other two are OK just a bit expensive.
The spoiled U/R one should be really good in a grixis control deck and this one could make R/W aggro a thing (it already is in block). The G/U one to come might push the Splinterfright dredge deck over the top but I doubt it will be as good.

They're awesome is what they are. It's how I've bought 6 packs between inninstrad and dark ascension and have like every common/uncommon.

I just bought a Dark Ascension fat pack and got nothing but shit in it. Feels bad man. :(

I'd say Stensia Bloodhall falls squarely into the "really bad" territory. :) (Although I guess if you have nothing better to do with your mana one turn, it's better than nothing)

Other than that though, I really like the lands in this block. I've always been a sucker for lands that do stuff.
