Holy Hell the end of that Patrick Sullivan-Ross Merriman game! Such a clinic and a showpiece of how complicated playing a Burn deck is

You could probably do some sort of Janky Search the City shenanigans with stuff like Buried Alive/Jarad's Orders and something like Gravepurge.

Much like Battle of Wits and Door to Nothingness, it's the sort of card that you want to puzzle over. It's not really competitive, even in casual games, but it's still an interesting challenge to try and manage to get it to go off.

Selesnya is looking better and better for the pre-release. Depending on the number of populate effects at common and uncommon I'm probably going to go with them.

Friend of mine was 20th in the Moscow GP last weekend so good. One game from top 8. I remember when me and him pretty started the mtg scene in our town back in the days...

So that's clearly not the whole set.

Still hoping for birds.

Also, the land enchantment cycle is interesting. I like the idea of stacking the "untap this land at each upkeep" enchantment on the "draw a card" enchantment. I also like that they make those stupid overpriced land destruction cards somewhat useful in limited.

Seeing the cards laid out like that makes me sad because of the ever more generic style that magic is going after. Everything is high contrast, monocoloured and heavily shadowed. I miss the good old days of illustrative fantasy art.

Set looks kinda boring now. I don't know what I expected, but it's lacking something. Maybe it's because the mechanics are rather boring and not used in creative ways.

This feels like a very bottom-up set. They haven't really done that since Zendikar, so I'm excited to see how it feels

EDIT: Non-linear might be a better word to use

The unc/rare/mythic stuff we're missing is likely relevant. This isn't the whole set, but it does appear to be most of the limited fodder with a few relevant cards thrown in.

Rootborn defenses was one of the first cards revealed and it's still one of my favorite commons in regards to limited. I have won so many matches with similar cards.

Is there just no ramp in this set or something? Besides Mana Bloom, I guess, which is actually a cool idea.
Keep in mind that GTC is also a 249 card large set, and that if you wanted to juice a set w/ reprints, that would be the one to do it in, since the 3rd set has approximately zero room.

From what I've seen in the spoilers there is some fixing but very little ramp outside Axebane Guardian (the defender who taps for X.)

Yeah as of now the set feels too straightforward. I mean your kavus' die and then you just pump your living kavus' with your dead ones. You then follow up by making and populating kavu tokens and detaining your opponents kavus. Finish this meatfest with overload spells that require no thought whatsoever.

We'll see once I get to draft that shit.

They should bring back Kavus.
