I did like 3 times!!! You never respond, crazy! I will again when I'm on a computer. It's on the bottom of the last page though.
Found it!

The only thing I don't have is Griselbrand, but I'm not likely to need those anytime soon. Lemme know when you have updated stuff I'm opening 3 boxes and will likely have more to trade).

I'm reminded of why i rarely trade anymore- its just easier to buy low cost playsets now that I'm working 40+hours a week.

Pretty much! That's what I've been doing for a while. :D

Im so fucking pissed!!! I prepaid for the event on sunday and they apparently sold out even though they have my money. This my my first venture back into Magic in more than 15 years. I dont even get the guild that i paid for. Im really upset about this!!!!!

Exact same thing happened to me. I called and the guy issued me a refund. Total bummer I was really looking forward to relearning the game and getting to know some people.

At least everyone on Gaf has been really cool and always offers to help with questions.

Wait, what? That can't be right. Are you getting a refund?

Yeah he offered my money back. I don't understand why they sold my guild pack after I paid but whatever.

Ya, that store sounds extremely shitty. I've never heard of that, especially with prepayment. That just doesn't make sense. Not sure why he would prefer that either since he already collected money from you.

My local place doesn't seem to be interested in taking part in any official events anymore. That sucks. Next closest place is prohibitively far away.

I went to three different stores and all were messed up with preorder amounts.

I'm sure stores took preorders before getting their shipment and finding less than they thought. I wouldn't be too hard on the store for that alone.

The place I usually play is all sold out of prerelease sets too. Was supposed to have six events and sold them all before the first one, oh well.

She also did random guilds too make sure that everyone had the same chance at a guild, got Golgari. Should've been 2-0, but misplayed the first match and gave away the second to some new player.

You guys only did 2 rounds? Or did you just drop?

That sucks. How do they even manage to stay open? Release events are probably the best and easiest way to attract potentisl customers.

Hey, I've sent out a lot of PMs, but if you've had any experiences with the prerelease you want sent up the chain, I'm compiling feedback from here and sending it up the chain, as a lot of you guys (especially the 15+ year guys jumping back into it) are where they need to be hearing this stuff from.

Thanks for the concern and the offer but I really wouldn't want any official action taken. I've had mostly good experiences there, met a lot of good people, and ultimately decided to not get the owner involved since I'd rather the store succeed than him possibly lose any support or business due to me. Earlier was just a little rant and besides that my overall experience with the store has been fantastic.

That's cool - the big thing they're looking into is the produce allocation issue and just how widespread the issue was. This prerelease incentivized mufti-queueing in a way no previous event has, and I think it was a major cause of the blow out of their projections.

Gotta catch 'em all!

(I did.)

What would be the correction though? Limit the amount of prereleases you can go to at a store? I don't really like that.

I am still really bummed but at the same time I am not sure what they could have done. They had over 200 people show up on Friday and another 300+ on Saturday. Sunday had maybe 15 people register and apparently only a few of us pre-paid (by mistake) I am still mad that they didn't grab a guild pack for me and toss it in the back since I did pre-pay. Apparently there was a miscommunication between the person that took my pre-order and the manager, he was not taking pre-orders for Sunday and was just going to let people walk in and play with whatever was left. So when Saturday came and people showed up to play he sold them and didn't know I had pre-paid. The manager called me and appologized and refunded my money. I love this game store and the staff is usually really awesome so I don't want anything to really affect them but WOTC should know they need to be sending more since it looks like this happened a bunch.

The manager could always be feeding me a line but this is the first sour thing to happen to me with these guys so I will give them a pass this once.

Thanks for activity trying to make things right and giving feedback to WOTC! Magic has a pretty awesome community.

Which store was this? (Not trying to get them in trouble- they just need data to establish that they need to be sending more product to stores.)

Is the Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 worth getting if I'm starting out? A co-worker invited me along to play the actual card game with him and his friends, but I'd like to have some kind of understanding of the game before I jump into an actual match.

Yes, absolutely. It's the best possible way to learn how to play.

Its basically designed as an introduction for newer players, so yes.

As cool as it was, I think the Guild packs were a bad idea in regards to running a pre-release. Instead of stores just being able to order a dozen booster boxes or so to run the events, they needed to special order a specific number of kits for the players. If it was just boosters, a store could dip into its prize pool to let more people play, and just give store credit or something as prizes instead, which would have prevented all the sell-out events over the weekend.

It's probably too late for Gatecrash, but I hope plans are being made for Sinker to not be as much of a clusterfuck as this was.

Bought.

Also, what about the Magic 2013 expansion pack? Do I need that, or is that for more advanced players of Magic?

It has additional decks to play with, the base game has plenty so get a feel for it and see if you like it first.

Gatecrash is exactly the reason they need to get this feedback now.

The guild packs were highly successful- I opened 6 packs to do a test sealed and my head nearly exploded/melted due to how difficult this format is.

Well, the guildpacks got me into a store to spend money on something I've never spent money on. I doubt I'm alone.

A piece of cardboard with some flavor text and a dice..I mean, it was basically a Helvault that everybody got to open. Pretty ingenious idea from their marketing side.

The solution is guild boosters sold as normal boosters after prerelease.

Make it happen, Wizard.

Seems like a pretty damn awesome idea, but then the next time they wanted to focus in on driving people to prerelease, customers would expect to be able to buy in afterward, which puts us back at square one.

Epic Games in Lehi, Utah

Thanks for taking charge with this and trying to help!

There will always be other events this was just my first time doing anything like this and getting back into magic after years and years so I was HYPED! only to be let down.

like I said the community here has been amazing.

Well magic cards are only one part of their business. They also sell some comics and pen and paper rpg sourcebooks as well as baseball cards, but yeah it really sucks. I've been getting my kid into M:tG and that's 2 events I really wanted to take him to, and ended up missing.

Not really sure where the imbalance is.
Here at midnight the winner at midnight out of 49 was a 5 color stemming from Rakdos.
Second place also came from Rakdos.
Third was Selensya.

Today at 2 was pretty much the same, Rakdos and Selensya were the strongest finishers.
Retain is not all of that, it was cute and all and I loved it last night but it can not compete with fast aggro in the limited format.
There is also plenty of removal to deal with most things, without even going into the new O Ring or wrath white has multiple ways to exile or destroy creatures, as does black and even green has a common way to deal with flyers which dealt with most of the promos.

The balance was rather impressive all and all.

The thing with my pre-releases is they were both filled weeks in advance, so your guild was picked way before all the spoilers were out. So 'the best players playing it' doesn't seem applicable. Most players with knowledge were gunning for golgari to try and get money cards. Looking around I'm seeing that Az seems to have come out on top the most. So I'm just trying to reason out what might have happened there.

Most of the removal was locked away at rare. You can't bank on that. The removal that wasn't at rare was conditional. Detain is acting as removal, effectively neutralizing the other side of the board. I observed several games where creatures got detained turn in and turn out until some fatty got dropped.

They're leaning things towards creatures now, so it's no surprise that the mechanic that controls creatures would come out on top. I just wish I had realized it sooner.

Not to say your experience isn't invalid or anything.

Went Izzet tonight and dropped in round 1 because I just wanted the cards and am Magicked out for the weekend.
Had a Jace, a Jarod, a Jarod's orders, a Mercurial Chemster and a couple of other things.
Not bad.

Went Azorius and pulled a second Archon and Isperia as well as the Aura that draws you a card every turn, which is bonkers in limited. Splashed red for Explosive Impact and Mizzium Mortars and had tons of super long games, especially since I played 3 other Azorius players.

Went 3-2 then dropped. I probably could've gotten a pack or two but I was super hungry by the time round five out of six was over.

I'm willing to bet that the super fast Rakdos deck that gave me my first loss in round 4 was the winner. Everything else just seemed too slow to compete. And he even had Rakdos himself for a finisher in any late games. And an Ash Zealot and two Dreadbores.

I went 3-1 with Selesnya. My deck was so slow and had hardly any token production but once I got a token, I had so many cards that populated. My rares in the pack and the prize packs were awful though, got my like 6th cyclonic rift and 3rd volatile rig, 3rd rest in peace, and other just jank rares.

Day 3: Picked Rakdos and went FIVE COLORS! Opened:

2x Transguild Promenade
1x Rakdos Guildgate
1x Golgari Guildgate
1x Overgrown Tomb
1x Izzet Guildgate
1x Steam Vents

And for my rares, I got
The promo foil horse
1x Chromatic Lantern
1x Desecration Demon
1x Archon of the Triumvirate
1x Detention Sphere

The pulls practically begged me to go 5 colors. I made it all the way to top 8, where I lost the first game in a very close match, and had to mulligan to 5 second game and lost :(

Oddly enough, the manabase was rock solid and barely had any problems at all casting my spells.

There were five rounds, and I went 4-0-1 when they cut to top 8. (no, that draw was in round 2, not round 5)

Still, pulled two shocks and opened another Steam Vents in prize support. I can't say I left disappointed.

You guys only did 2 rounds?
No, I dropped. It started around 1 and I had been up all day. After the first match I was pretty sure I was going to drop, so didn't mind giving away match 2.

Looking forward to Gatecrash, hope I can play more for that prerelease, but will probably be moving around that time.
