...weren't you giving me shit for asking a rules question? MORAN!
I didn't even know that existed in MTGO. Rules question is MUCH STUPIDER than that.
Will these modern masters packs be something you can actually get for MSRP or priced past MSRP like the "from the vault" stuff is.
I'm really curious about how they are defining "Competitive players" in regards to the target audience. Are they going to skip over EDH staples that have no place in a constructed deck, like Doubling Season, Woodfall Primus, Sliver Legion, ect?
Depends on how limited the limited run is. They specifically said they wanted it out of the hands of poorer...er, "newer" players, so I'm guessing at least a 50 percent markup.
Flusterstorm and the other Planechase 2012 original cards are only legal in Vintage and Legacy. That card would probably break Nivmagus in Modern since that would efficiently counter just about every instead speed spot removal in the format (though the new Abrupt Decay is unaffected of course) for a single blue mana.
My "I took 15 mins to make some guesses" list for the mythic rares in this set
Archbound Ravager
Crucible of Worlds
Vedalkin Shackles
Mutavault
Vendilion Clique
Gifts Ungiven
Dark Confidant
Damnation
Tarmagoyf
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Knight of the Releguery
Doran, the Siege Tower
Maelstrom Pulse
Ajani Vengent
Anyone got any better ideas? I tried to pick cards that were all worth money, would have the possibility of being printed at Mythic if made today (so no Thoughtsieze, for example), and were all playable or staples in Modern.
Cardbot7 has 1.
Cardbot4 has 4.
pisiiki2 has 2.
Modern Masters, Limited print run set 229 cards, from 8th- Alara Reborn. 6.99 MSRP per booster, 24 boosters per box (so perfect for drafting). Draft experience will allow "Drafting a Storm deck vs a Faries deck". New Art for some cards, new arts for Tokens.
- No cards that are currently banned (Like Jace TMS, Ponder, ect), or cards they consider on the cusp of banning will be included in the set (I doubt Bloodbraid Elf will be in this)
- Will be on MTGO, but not redeemable
- Foil card will replace the basic land in every pack
- No Prereleases
Tarmagoyf is first card confirmed in the set, as a Mythic Rare
I HATE that this is a limited product, but I am happy that they are upping some cards to Mythics. Will probably make them a little easier to get now, and will, if nothing else, probably chop 20% off the value of current cards.
June 2013 release date
Oh, and most importantly, There will be a limited Grand Prix using this set! Hope its in North America, preferably on the East Coast!
I don't really understand why you are all going so crazy over Trostani, she's not really very good. She's expensive in paper because it's an EDH mythic, I really doubt it will ever get played in proper constructed.
I'm tempted to get a playset of all the shocklands while they're cheap, not sure if they'll jump in price eventually.
Did they mention how the other rarities will work? Like could Noble Hierarch (a rare) be printed at common? What common staples are there?
They're only going to keep going down until RtR stops being opened in drafts. I've been actively selling each one I've picked up in drafts so far.
Yup. Just wait till MTGO redemptions hit. Oh boy.Really? Damn, $5-$7 a pop just seems cheap. I guess I'll wait then.

They need to all match. All Foil or all normal.Ya, that's what I'm afraid. Guess I'll keep an eye on them then.
Edit: I have a possibly stupid question about MTGO, if you go to redeem a set and say you only have a foil of a particular card, will they give you a foil or you'll just get a regular card?

This will do wonders for the secondary market, but for the love of everything holy, don't buy a box unless you're actually going to draft with it. Please, people. Think of your wallets.
WTF. Some guy had the balls to run Eggs at the Pro Tour? And he started 5-0 with it? Damn son.
Geez. No wonder they don't like to feature this deck on camera. This is like...deck masturbation. Magic is much more fun when you're playing with someone else.
Knowing my LGS, there'll be boxes for 40% off day one. Fuck my wallet, I'm cracking one of thoseThis will do wonders for the secondary market, but for the love of everything holy, don't buy a box unless you're actually going to draft with it. Please, people. Think of your wallets.
I'm actually fairly certain playing certain builds of eggs constitute stalling. It is, however, an insanely good deck, with very favorable matchups against many tier 1 decks (most notably crushing pod ~75% of the time.)
It's a great metagame decision right now.
PVDDR said:The question is, what made this tournament so different than normal?
1) All the players were good. Normally, there is an edge to be gained on playskill. Since every one of us there is probably better than the average competitor, even in a PT, we shy away from decks that have no play to themwe want chances for our opponents to make mistakes, we want complicated positions, we dont want the game to be decided on whether our opponents drew the Force of Will or the Leyline of the Void, because we can tip the complicated position in our favor.
In this tournament, however, that didnt exist. Whereas before we might play an interactive deck rather than, say, Storm or Tron or Eggs or Affinity or whatever, we would have no incentive to do so this time. In fact, we were actually looking forward to finding one of those combo decks that we minimally liked, because we thought this was the tournament to play them. Unfortunately, all of the combo decks we tried underperformed. We still had to be mindful of the fact that if we wanted a combo deck to work, its likely that everyone else would, as well.
My friend said he won a japanese Angel of Serenity on ebay for $15... That seems way too cheap.
Have him link you to the finished auction.
Anyone need Blood Crypts that has Temple Gardens?
Edit: Odd, just had a Japanese Noble Hierarch fall into my lap. So the Angel may have happened lol
Do yourselves a favor and go read the MTGsalvation threads about the reprints. So much crying and misunderstanding. People talking about how stores will jack the price of boosters up to 200 dollars each and other crazy stuff like that.

They announced a North American GP that'll be Modern Masters limited format, so I can't imagine the product being stupidly limited, like Commander's Arsenal.
$200 for a box doesn't sound all that crazy, however, seeing as the MSRP is $168. I can easily see game shops selling these things for $10+ a pack if staple commons/uncommons and BIG money rares besides Tarmo are in the set. They'll just use the fact that it's a one-shot thing as an excuse.
On a related note, I much prefer the new Tarmogoyf.
I've appealed the cautions in situations where we were actually on the last 2-3 turns of the match and were in no danger of actually timing off (the rules are terrible here because you're at the mercy of what the judge feels is right) but he was playing so horribly slowly on every turn that it wasn't even defensible. Figure out what your line is and do the most damage. Then pass. Very frustrating to watch. If the set is well put together, the price could be worth it to draft. But like I said - don't buy boxes if you're just going to crack packs and sit in a pile of cards and wrappers.
EDIT: Back to catching up on the Pro Tour; watching Round 14 now. It's incredible how much of a baby Nassif is being on camera about his slow play warnings.

So I am just getting back into magic after about 13 years! I was supposed to go to the pre release for ravnica but got screwed out of that (I posted about it on here) anyways my question is a deck builders tool kit good for getting some starting cards? Fat pack? What would you guys suggest? I am not looking to play in tournaments or anything just kitchen table games against friends and stuff.
Thanks
