Really wish someone told me about the 64 free cards per month bot earlier. All those months I've had an account before this wasted! (Yes, even if they are common/uncommon: come on, it's 64 cards!)

First I've heard of it, which bot is this and how does it work? Even if it's only C/U's, still could get the occasional useful one from it.

It's Modern season noob!

I was going to play scapeshift, but couldn't meet up with the person who had the ramp commons I needed, so I swapped to the Sun Titan list that won the MTGO PTQ. It ended up being a blessing in disguise- Twin was one of the more popuar decks and sort of a nightmare matchup. Deck is very good, but the biggest problem I was running into is that so many people are picking up these decks for the first time and it's causing them to play incredibly slowly.

Oh wow, didn't even realize. I haven't touched modern at all.

Neither had my opponents. And when they're playing Affinity/PW control for the first time it makes for some problematically slow play.

Affinity's a terrible choice right now anyway- its too easy to hate on. Storm has the same issue.

Okay i worked a bit more on my decklist, i have a bit to much cards now (72 atm)
Which 12 cards should i lose? (or maybe lessen the amount) Also i decided to stay with UB for the sake of simplicity.

Yeah I have affinity since I play it in legacy for fun every now and then but it does get hated on without much effort.

Kind of surprised people were slow playing you with it, could you have called a judge on them?

I'm too used to Green and White. I have NO idea how to fashion a U/R deck together. It's just too weird for me, and every time I think I have an idea I just scrap it. haha

By the gods, throw me some ideas.

I'm basically trying to put together a janky Izzet deck, full of spell shenanigans. Thinking it might be fun to use Epic Experiment.

Start with 4x Desperate Ravings it is the best card ever

I didn't realize how much time the game was taking. I have absurd levels of patience, which is a problem sometimes.

The problem is that they don't know how the interactions work and how to do math.

I lurked this thread for so long and it seems no one plays EDH :-( Overcosted cards is where all the fun happens ;-)

I basically only play EDH anymore. Lot of fun, and I love that the format is basically self-regulating.

Current decks:
Karn, Silver Golem
Arcanis the Omnipotent
Darien, King of Kjeldor
Olivia Voldaren
Hanna, Ship's Navigator
Sigarda, Host of Herons
Glissa, the Traitor
Razia, Boros Archangel
Ghave, Guru of Spores
The Mimeoplasm

I just got two of my friends into EDH a couple of months ago and one of them already has as many decks as I do...

Here's something I've boon goofing around with, works reasonably well.

I've just recently got into magic about 5-6 months ago, thanks to a friend. And I've put together about 12 different decks of all different colors from innistrad up to RtR (5 single color and 7 mix color) I only play with a few friends and I've never been to a Friday night magic, so my question is: how common do people use planeswalkers in Standard? At like FNM? Do planeswalkers make the game unbalanced? And should I have them in my deck no matter what?

Also is there a wiki that breaks down some of the lingo and jargon that's used by players in magic? All I know is what's on the cards and the iPad game. like for instance, what does Mill mean? stuff like that.

Where's the Desperate Ravings fool. Not even joking, they would do a lot more work than the Divinations when you're playing counterspells. Random ain't even that bad most of the time it's a land or a Think Twice/another Ravings which is just value town.
Also I'd say you definitely need 4 Delvers if you're going to play any. The Guildgates are a liability with Delver. Might want some Snapcasters unless it's a budget thing.

You can have more than one Demonic Tutor in a deck? I only play Magic Online where you are limited to one per deck on cards like that and Sol Ring.

It depends on the format, it's restricted in Vintage so you can play 1 and banned completely in Legacy.
It seems he's playing 'casual' kitchen table but with good cards.

I miss the "casual" Magic I played in high-school. None of us had money for good cards, so the decks we put together were built out of whatever random boosters and pre-cons gave us.

I think a large part of why I like Limited so much is because it produces decks similar to that, where you don't have the luxury of a finely tuned machine, and so you're forced to discover unexpected interactions in the "mediocre" cards you have available. That discovery is one of my favorite parts of Magic.

Okay, can Olivia bite a Knight of Glory? Since the ability just costs one mountain, its not exactly a black ability but its coming from a black (and red) creature. How does that work?

She's a black creature, so the source of the ability is black. And remember, Protection is DEBT: it can't be destroyed by, enchanted by, blocked by or targeted by anything it has protection from.

Can Modern Storm ever really survive a large tournament without just getting good dodges? It seems like it's a fine deck for MTGO dailies or something, but in my (admittedly small) experience playing it, it seems to be a glass cannon that would have a really hard time making top 8 in a large event.

Gonna get back into magic but really casual. No shop play just friends. What's the format like now? Last I played innistard had just come out and my last deck i remember building was tempered steel.

cloudfin raptor and gateway shade intrigue me. Bloodrush is making a bit more sense now too.

Yay spoiler season!

Interesting that Boros Elite is uncommon. I wonder if Battalion is easier to trigger in limited than it initially seems. Maybe some efficient token makers coming or something.

So far it looks like they're being very timid about the power level of Cipher cards. I really want to see the rare or possibly mythic Cipher cards to see just how far they're going to push it.

EDIT: I just read this and the impact of it struck me: "A bloodrush ability isn't a spell and can't be countered by things that only counter spells. It uses the stack and can be responded to normally." I hadn't really considered that until now.

Does not seem that difficult, honestly. That'd be a nutty common.

I just got into this. Is the slope as slippery as it feels already, GAF?

I'm playing a mostly plains and forest deck from a ravnica intro deck (Selesnya Surge) beefed up a little from some trading and extra booster packs. Feel like I'm learning faster than expected but tokens still confuse me sometimes. I need to print out some token cards..

oooh, Burning Tree Emmisary looks strong. A free 2/2 on turn 2? Yes please.

Also I really like Experiment One from a flavor perspective. Creepy.

Burning Tree Emmisary is going straight into my Peasant Cube. Hoping to see more peasant cube-worthy cards soon!

Experiment One looks pretty good too for the cube

I get the feeling that Cloudfin Raptor could end up being a trap in Limited.

What I would be looking for is a Simic creature that either blinks itself or other creatures. Without this sort of enabler, topdecking a tiny Evolve creature would be a terrible, terrible thing.

It very much wants a hyper-agressive deck.

I just haven't seen anything that excites me out of the set yet except for Boby 2 and Windfall.

The Bracers have me pretty excited, especially for EDH. They're my favorite kind of card, the kind that creates discovery moments. (my absolute favorite card for this is Prototype Portal. Every game it seems I discover a new artifact that suddenly becomes crazy when I can make six of them)

Welcome to the best game ever.

For certain. And I suppose it's no worse than topdecking your Rakdos Cackler. But I'd be willing to be that it will most certainly end up being more difficult to draft the Evolve deck than to draft the Unleash deck.

I feel like it will balance out. Evolve has a bit more of a late game, whereas especially in Limited it felt like Unleash really needed the initial assault to work or it was utterly screwed. Its main problem is yeah, drawing the curve properly. If you can even get one or two counters on your Evolve creatures it seems like you get decent utility based on the power level we're seeing so far.
