Major bug in Xbox360 CoD 2

I just finished the stage on Rommel's Last Stand where you have to man the anti-aircraft guns. I'm playing on regular difficulty. I beat the stage, got the victory message and then clicked on next mission.

I was immediately taken back to the beginning of the game to the Russian Winter War training stage. I didn't know WTF was going on so I went to my mission select screen and now everything is locked except for The Winter War and Rommel's Last Stand. Looks like my save is now corrupt also.

Check out the screens. I've already beaten all of those levels in between The Winter War and Rommel's Last stand and now they're all locked. I can only play The Winter War or Rommel's Last Stand.

Nice to know that the last week's worth of work just got flushed down the fucking toilet. And to think I paid $63 and some change for this shit.

I'd of kicked you in the nuts for half that. I can't say I've heard of many people having this issue. Hopefully it's just an isolated case and this isn't KOTOR all over again...

Yeah ... because software on Microsoft's consoles are the only ones that have bugs in them...

You obviously weren't around for the Holiday 2004 Playstation 2 sampler disc, which erased your entire fucking memory card.

I've read about this on a few other boards, but I think it's the first time it's come up here. I'm not sure as to what causes it. For some people, it's happened multiple times, for others, not at all. It hasn't happened to me - whenever I play, I always use "mission select", not "resume game" and I always save and exit at the end of a mission. Not sure if the method has anything to do with things.

M$ must have put a virus on that sampler disc.

I doubt it.

Sony's pretty good at creating viruses of their own.

Have you bought a Sony published music CD over the last month?

Just in the last couple of days I decided that I need to buy a memory card for redundant backup. Once I've got 40 hours into RR6 and a bunch of stuff unlocked...the thought of going back...too painful.

Ouch is an understatement, more like Wouch. To think you paid extra for crap when you could have bought regular crap.....

I thought the Xbox 360º was going to be easy to program for?

Funny, I just got up to that level, now i'm worried I going to lose my save when I beat it. I'll probably get to it tomorrow, we'll see what happens on mine.

And if you think THAT'S bad, wait 'til you try the multiplayer on LIVE! Busted, busted, busted, and the only response anyone's been getting from Activision is "Well, that's just the way the game is." Translated, this means "Thanks for the extra 10-spot, Bubba! Eat a turd!" Honestly, COD2: Big Red One for Xbox is a much better online game.

My hope for a solid 360 WWII multiplayer experience now lies at the feet of The Outfit. And Wolfenstein 360, whenever that comes out.

the game still kicks ass

Oh, single player is incredible, and no one's arguing that, but you can rent it for a week and get the same experience for $8 instead of $60. Multiplayer is what generally makes a linear game like COD2 a keeper.

I'll just borrow my friends copy when he's done so I can run through the single player. That is really too bad abou the online play. PDZ is a blast online :)

This really sucks. I was having a lot of fun with this game. It does kick ass. I bought PGR3, PD0, and CoD2 at launch. I've played a few hours of PGR3, haven't touched PD0, been spending most of my time with CoD2. I'm scared to start over now.

I've been hopping around to various boards and it seems to have happened with a few other people. There's a thread at gamefaqs where a guy claims to have found a workaround and he blames the problem on profiles getting screwed up, and something about having 2 controllers, but I've only got 1 profile and 1 wireless controller so his workaround doesn't apply to me :(

Bill, I've read elsewhere that some people with the glitch are saving and quitting at the end of each mission like vatstep, and using Mission Select to select the next stage for a quick workaround. Maybe that will work for you.

You mean when I mentioned it earlier in the thread? :lol

There's so much buggy software at launch. I'm sure it will calm down come the 2nd wave. Btw, shouldn't patches be possible through Xbox Live? I think I remember them saying they weren't going to support that, but maybe for special cases. Or would that be admitting too much for Microsoft?

That's what he gets for supporting Capcom.

Thankfully I haven't had any problems. This game is kicking my ass (in a good way). On the highest difficulty level it's quite possibly the most difficult game (or FPS anyway) I've ever played. There was one part last night where I had to clear out 6 different houses of enemy soldiers. Small houses, but they're all within sight of one another, providing the enemy with multiple shooting angles. Took me 4 hours.

I passed the anti-aircraft guns mission tonight with no problem. I didn't do any of the workaround options mentioned. I usually save at the conclusion of every mission, and then select "continue" so it's not 100% going to happen to the next guy... although I was petrified while saving.

Ouch this has just happened to me, I played the first 2 levels of the winter war on Veteran setting then played rommels last stand. About half way through that level my xbox live account disconnected when I connected it again the game had reset itself in the mission select screen and now I have to start all over again from mission 1 of the winter war :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Jesus, you guys have me really paranoid now. I already had to start over once due to some Xbox Live profile confusion. Not that I don't enjoy playing it but going through the same missions again just to get back to where you were isn't my idea of fun.

Same thing happened to me, finished a level, clicked continue and it sent me backwards. From now on, instead of clicking continue, I save.

Usual stuff.
And most bug (especially major ones like this) are well knowned before they ship the game. It's just that they can have X thousands of reasons not correcting certain bugs.
And also one of the main reasons is that some bugs (especially if discovered late in devellopement process) would require too much time to correct or it woud be too risky to cause other new bugs correcting it. And there's also no indications whatsoever that a game sells less with some bugs in it. People buy the games anyway and for as long as it's like this, you'll never see any fully debugged game on the market that's for sure.

Yeah I'm scared to death to start over because I have no idea what caused this or even what to avoid so it doesn't happen again.

I have 1 profile and 1 controller so it couldn't have been something to do with multiple profiles getting swapped as others have suggested on other boards.

I almost always save and quit after each mission but for some reason I didn't after I finished Rommel's Last Stand, and I'm kind of leaning in that direction as to the where the bug might be. As others have mentioned, saving and quitting and then resuming may very well cause the bug not to happen. I just don't want to spend the next 8-10 hours testing it. I had been playing on regular difficulty and was 3/4 of the way through the game at that point. I had planned on going back and starting over on Veteran anyway so I could unlock the achievements, but now I'm gonna have to hold off.

I sent an email with these screens to Activision's tech support, but I don't expect much of a reply. They'll just give me the runaround, blame it on a faulty Xbox360, even though mine has worked perfectly over the last week, or try and make it look like its anyone else's fault but theirs.

It's mostly a save related bug and those are vicious sometime. It can comes from ANY string/series of saving you did.

It looks like this bug is starting to pop up on other people on just about every forum I visit - IGN, Xbox.com, and the official Infinity Ward forums.

At this point, I would have to recommend that our European and Japanese friends DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, when Xbox360 launches in your territories. Not only is the online portion of the game terrible, but now we've got a nasty save bug popping up for some people, and I'm sure the number is gonna get bigger as the days go by. It seems to be happening to most people during the last 25-35% of the game.

You know, it seems to me a big problem with the 360 regardless of the units build quality is the whole always connected thing. It seems to me that if your connection is lost it caused the dashboard or the game to crash. Doesn't matter what game it is either.

Anyone know of lots of people beign able to trace game crashes back to this ? My friends crashed on him a few times I guess, every time when his internet connection would crap out on him.

Yep my 360 always freezes up when my cable modem goes down, thats the only time it ever crashes hopefully microsoft will update the dashboard soon to fix that problem

Unless the game has faulty code for displaying the network disconnect message, this shouldn't be a problem. I've lost my network connection multiple times during Kameo. It displayed the error message and the game continued as normal, which all games should do.

and this only seems to happen at one particular point.

anyway, I have COD2 for single player, so I'll see if I can stay signed out of LIVE for it.

That's some pretty sound advice. If your words dont put across the message, then the pictures you posted should. Perhaps, the best idea would be to simply wait after the Holidays when the newer 360s have revised hardware.
