So I loaded up Firefox last week to find that all my bookmarks are gone. Like, 12 month's worth. No system crash or anything out of the ordinary on my PC preceded this.

A few days later, they're back.

Today's, they're gone again. I do some web research -- turns out a LOT of people are finding that firefox mysteriously deletes all their bookmarks at will. There are some suggested fixes, none of which work for me.

For all the great things about Firefox, this is totally a dealbreaker. I'm done with it. Anyone else experienced this?

Hang out with Steve.
Never happened to me, and I've been using Firefox through almost all of its alpha and beta configurations and name changes.

You're positive they're GONE, and you're not just hiding & showing the bookmarks bar on the left of the browser (ctrl-B toggles this)?

Happened to me once, and I heard it had to do with the profile things as well, but I never chose to make a new profile (and didn't even know you could do profiles up until then). Not sure what the fix was, and I find the idea of profiles on a webbrowser retarded anyway, you'd think they could do it through user profile on Windows instead or something.

The program never asked if I wanted to create a new profile, nor did it ask when it myseriously came back. This time they're gone for good.

And I checked my profiles, and my bookmarks folder, and that link, and none of the solutions worked. Firefox wiped them thanks to a huge fucking bug, and lots of people are reporting permanent deletions. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends them up in court. Fuck Firefox.

I've been using Firefox for...I'm not even sure how long now. Since last spring at the very latest, maybe longer, and no such thing has ever happened to me.

Aside from Firefox crashing every once in a blue moon, it's given me no problems at all.

Never lost them either, but I don't mind. I've got a copy at home that I use, a copy on the Unix server at school that I use, then a backup on my school FTP as well as another copy on the Windows server at school. Honestly, I never planned it like that, it just sort of happened, heh.

Maybe I just got bored of the internet, but I have like 10 bookmarks, all for the convenience of not having to type.

Yeah, same here.

If Firefox deleted my bookmarks, the most I'd be is mildly inconvenienced.

Well, I've got a ton of bookmarks ... but I'd probably only ever need 10 on a regular basis. Most of them are just cool utilities, fun links, help reference, etc. Things that I'd rather not have to look up if I wanted to see again.

i've had this problem where FF would crash, and occasionally upon restarting it my tabs wouldn't reload, and my bookmarks would be gone. But upon closing and restarting the program, all would be back to normal. About the only time FF crashes for me is when i've got a few dozen tabs open, some with nothing but pictures, and i've had the browser open for a few days.

Edit: There's a bookmark backup extension for FF if you're afraid of losing bookmarks.

time to piggy back on this thread.... i have similar symptons but a sounds like a different sorta problem.

recently, after firefox is closed, it still remains running as a process according to the task manager. when i try to start up a new firefox session, it displays a window to select a profile and it only shows the default one. in the above situation, it doesn't like you start firefox with that profile, so you have to create a new one and all my old bookmarks are gone.

to fix this, i have to go to task manager and choose to end the renegade firefox process. then i can start it normally and have all the bookmarks reappear.

i don't know why it does it. it so far only happens when i use my computer after i let someone else use it before. i don't know what happens 'cos they're gone or bolt out of there when i get to my computer... bastards. i'm not sure i can duplicate the problem myself. i never even knew firefox had profiles let alone change 'em... yet it somehow knew it wasn't me using it...?

If every time IE had a bug someone sued them, now MS would have gone bankrupt. And it's not easy for MS to go bankrupt...
