Major Nelson/MS issues an official statement regarding Used Games on XBox One

Fanboy glasses? This is like my second post in 10 years on the gaming side of this forum lol. You don't know what I have or plan on getting. All I'm saying is that I get throwing a tantrum maybe the first 48 hours but they've said over and over that they'll explain more at E3. It's like two weeks away. I think they fully get everyone's opinions on the whole matter by now. If their policy sucks and you don't like it then you go ahead and throw a hissy fit and throw your money at a PS4 preorder. Just give them a chance to state the facts in two weeks.

They can tell us now. There's nothing stopping them.

Never forget . . .

I'd rather have no used game/trade ins at all over the need for 24hour checkups. Always online checkups/DRM is a no-go for me and many others.

Just eliminate used games, make them one time use like PC. To offset this, retail games closer to PC prices ($39.99). This is easier and more headache free for all. It also eliminates the need for always on DRM.

But it did say something, pretty significant too...

Now is this true given what's happened with MS and their messaging the past 72hrs? Time will tell...

what is significant about saying 2 words that mean not all of the information isn't, in its entirety, completely true? While not saying its just plain false. Or addressing specific false commentary (Its a short list)

If it was to dispel the bullshit, Microsoft would claim that there is false information, incorrect information.

Gamestop retweeted his statement. They're definitely in on it.

Oh, I wouldn't doubt this. Was talking about this on the financial topic about gamestop:

That seems like something that will keep them around for a while.
That is what I am thinking. I'm thinking that there may be a deal where, with the trade in gamestop makes more then the typical $12 a game, from a trade in. If this is the case, we might see gamestop purposely allow the speculators in the market to jump off to lower the stock, so they can buy up more of themselves before the announcement, evil as fuck but definitely a possibility.

What about if they give you the option to sell your activation code?
At the moment, if you want to trade a game then you take it to gamestop etc. They give you money or trade in credit based on the value of the game, then they sell your game on at a higher price to make profit.... publishers see none of this money.

Well what if you have the option of selling your code? You go to market place and sell your right to play the game. MS give you $10 or whatever the code is worth, they then sell it on for $20. At least they/publishers see some of this money.

You are left with a useless disc that you can't play, but you got $10 out of MS at least. You could even maybe sell on the disc for a dollar or two to collectors or someone who would like a physical copy of their game (once they've purchased a code from MS).

So......they say the rumors are inaccurate or incomplete, yet they dont tell us what is actually going on. Im not taking MS on thier word with this one, they have to clarify what they plan to do.

gamestop doesn't know shit. they are probably negotiating to get a cut of authorization codes or something, but since they came out and said "what the hell", they are definitely on the outside looking in
The only thing GameStop was caught off guard by on Tuesday is that Harrison & Wired blew this out in the open before they had a way to spin it and make it sound pretty.

THAT'S why they said "what the hell".

They are most definitely NOT on the outside looking in.

I can't believe MS planned all of this out so fucking badly. How could they not have prepared a complete statement to give about this crap? Did they really not realize that people would get pissed off, and that there would be a thousand questions about their incomplete BS statements? Now they're stuck doing damage control, and failing pretty spectacularly at it. It really makes it seem like they weren't really prepared for this reveal at all.

The only good policy about used games is to have no policy

This.

You bought, it yours, do whatever you want with it.

They are acting like a guy who cheated on his girlfriends and won´t just confirm or deny, he would just dance around the subject hoping that the girlfriend somehow would forget about it.

They did, and then the backlash happened. Garanteed there was no plans on allowing used games before people made a huge deal about. Ms is running scared, they've already lost some much, might as well not even bother with the console.

The arse said one thing and the elbow said another. The amount of contradictory information that I read about used games and always-online for the first 6 or so hours after the reveal was extraordinary. Normally you would blame shit journalism for that but they were just reporting the bollocks coming out of the MS Executives' mouths.

Oh brother... Why even address that further if only to perpetuate the notion that they're dodging the question. It's like they're asking for this bad press...

That it's not accurate or complete? I'm taking it at face value, that maybe a naive and foolish thing to do, but I remain hopeful the backlash has been such that they are still considering whether to go ahead with some or all of their plans.

If you think Sony won't have something similar your in denial.

This is something the publishers really want.

I think we know who's in denial here and that's you.

Sony have already stated they won't get in the way of you playing used games as well as not enforcing an internet connection.

All Sony can do is not enforce a console-wide block on used games and that is what their doing. Can't blame them for what publishers do.

Because they're actively putting off the question until they can dangle the shiny keys (games) in front of us at E3. Making a system like this and hammering out the details will take years, they are not going to reverse it in days, if at all.

Microsofts entire reveal was a failure. That is Microsoft dropping the ball. They released muddled information, contradicting information, and wouldn't answer questions about the issues they raised. I don't think any part of his post suggested Sony wouldn't do this. Sony had "Draconian DRM" however SOny has said that users will specifically be able to enjoy their console, without internet, because some places don't have internet. Thats more definitive than anything microsofts said in the past 72 hours.

There are smart ways to do things, Microsoft is showing how to 100% do it wrong. From the announcement to dealing with the announcement, and here again, an OFFICIAL announcement saying absolutely nothing. Sony didn't tell gamers to fuck off until E3, and to not bother watching.

Publishers are doing just fine with DRM on consoles/PC. Sure, there is room to improve, but not at the cost of the Customer, which MS isn't factoring in. They turned their back on an entire demographic with spotty/not as robust internet.

So much for the "Its only GAF being babies about this!" nonsense. Its clear they are feeling the heat.

Reddit and Facebook are monsters that weren't as big in 2006 and they are apparently bitching to high heaven too. The world has changed and with it PR. MS has not changed their policies and they're still holding out hope the delay and distract will solve everything

Season 4 was awful

It was mediocre. But I suppose awful for the show since the show is in general great. I feel bad for the people who had to watch the first third of the season week by week. Due to being busy, I couldn't get around to watching season 4 until it was half way through. I think that helped with my impression of the season quite a bit.

And then there was that episode which came out of nowhere related to season 5. One of the biggest wtf moments I've had while watching TV.

Anyways on topic, these official statements are getting funnier every time.
