Major Nelson/MS issues an official statement regarding Used Games on XBox One

Oh god!! That game on your avatar pic, I used to play it till death... it still bothers me thou that I could never, ever pait a whole room with my tracks without being eaten by the dog or beaten by the flyng broomsticks.

lol, yea the stupid broomsticks used to kill me all the time.

They should either have sorted all this shit out before the reveal (because god knows they have had plenty of time) or they should have just said 'we haven't finalised our plans yet' until they had it all worked out. This statement helps nothing.

"Retailers will be free to charge whatever they wish for pre-owned Xbox One games, but both Microsoft and publishers will take a percentage cut of every sale."

That's just so damn fucked up. In what other business do the original creators, who have already been paid once, get a cut when you resell the product? If I buy a TV from Sony and then sell it to someone, do Sony get a percentage of what I sold it for? Hell no. So fucked up.

So Phil Harrison and Moody were incorrect, as are the recent reports from retailers on how all this is going to work?

I want to give MS the benefit of a doubt here but this feels like damage control...a way to get us to shut up while they hope it all blows over in the E3 rush in a few weeks.

Why can't people just wait and hear what they have to say at E3. This angry mob mentality is growing old fast in here. Obviously they'll have answers during E3

Yeah, shesh, consumers wanting straight answers from a company they would like to buy a product from, the nerve...

Please, won't someone think of the poor companies?!

I haven't been keeping up with all of this madness, but all of this 'used games/activation fee/etc.' stuff could really muck up REDBOX and/or Gamefly rentals, no?

REDBOX saved my ass when it came to Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Even there I felt bad having to pay the single day rental fee.

Exactly...Redbox allows me to demo games, this will change that apparently...I really wish they would have left this aspect alone...I just want to be excited about the next gen but can't be because of this.

But games are completely different because of reasons!

At Microsoft all our employees are dedicated to giving the public non-committal, vague and incomplete information.

This statement is just another proof of our commitment to that core mission.

I have a statement to make on behalf of Microsoft regarding Xbox One:

Xbox One is a game console. Please look forward to it.

The fact that they had to issue a statement means they know the general vibe out here so lets hope that will change what they planned on doing originally.

We can at least hope.

Hmm doesn't change the fact that they were thinking about it and almost ready to implement it though.

Complete BULLSHIT. Once a game is bought, that item should belong to the buyer. Fuck this!!! It's pure GREED plain and simple. FUCK XBOX ONE. PERIOD.

Fanboy glasses? This is like my second post in 10 years on the gaming side of this forum lol. You don't know what I have or plan on getting. All I'm saying is that I get throwing a tantrum maybe the first 48 hours but they've said over and over that they'll explain more at E3. It's like two weeks away. I think they fully get everyone's opinions on the whole matter by now. If their policy sucks and you don't like it then you go ahead and throw a hissy fit and throw your money at a PS4 preorder. Just give them a chance to state the facts in two weeks.

Gamestop retweeted his statement. They're definitely in on it.
gamestop doesn't know shit. they are probably negotiating to get a cut of authorization codes or something, but since they came out and said "what the hell", they are definitely on the outside looking in

NeoGAF promotes discussion about video game topics, the Xbox One and the potential impact on future video games is a popular topic. With no further information, the discussion is limited to the small amount of information known as well as rumors and speculation. While there are people who are angry and there are those who will jump to both conclusions and assumptions that are negative (which given some of the history anti-consumer measures in gaming isn't hard to make that leap), there are also interesting discussions to be had about the next gen systems.

Microsoft, you have 24 hours or we're out. Sorry, but its just business - we have to assume the worst about you until proven otherwise.

Daily.

Over the paste few days, we have been reading comments and message boards following the Xbox One announcement. There are a few questions regarding used games. I wanted to clarify and provide this official statement:

The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future.
This says nothing. What about fees? Reselling or trading physical or digital copies? Etc.

I just looked at the thread title and the size of the thread (5 pages) and I knew there was no information of importance.

Microsoft should've figured out how to sell their DRM as a feature before letting it slip to the press. It's a little late to start massaging the message now with official statements.

They did, and then the backlash happened. Garanteed there was no plans on allowing used games before people made a huge deal about. Ms is running scared, they've already lost some much, might as well not even bother with the console.

Maybe they should shut the fuck up for two weeks then? You realize we're responding to a statement they made today, right?

They said they will announce more later, so why not wait until they actually announce something?

Or we can just keep posting the same complaints over and over in a new thread.

because without the hate, MS has no reason to change policy. see what happened with office 13: if people just shut up, they would have keep the shit tos.

Also a possibility.

Whatever the case, they have to be in total free fall right now because of everyone saying to sell their stock.

Companies are legitimately starting to lose money because of the confusion. I think we'll get an answer sooner rather than later, especially if the vehement negativity persists.
