Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

If you share to YouTube and they allow you to choose unlisted. It will show up in What's New for all your PSN friends. I doubt you'll be able to limit it to specific friends.

They way "unlisted" works with youtube(proper), you don't need an account to view. It simply makes it unsearchable on youtube. Unlike facebook where people can't view something that they are not given permission to view.

You are right. That should work wonders then. Still not narrowly shared on PSN, but at least it's there unlike Facebook stuff that would appear black.

do you think it works like magic? How can you share it with someone that you dont have as contact?

Yes, you can share easily but you have to setup it properly on facebook - create a group of friends you want to share it with and then later share to that group via PS4.

It is very simple and requires 2 minute effort from you.

They are PSN friends already. Just not Facebook/Google/Twitter friends.

I wonder what the theme surprise is that Scott mentioned:

I have a Themes surprise coming for everyone on 2.0 launch day. No I am not going tell you what it is.

It's so sad that we're actually excited about being able to pause/resume downloads, hahaha. And yes, this is very good news. Also, THEMES AND COLORZZZZ YESSS

you cant share things on Facebook unless you have them on Facebook... otherwise it is a privacy and security issue. Plus, how would PSN connect their PSN and Facebook names if they dont have them synced?

You can connect them on facebook and create a group for them where you only post game related stuff... that will work fine.

You can have one group named "Friends/Family" and one "Gaming", and post things to either, depending on content. That way your family does not see your game things and your gaming friends dont see your family things.

Definitely more interested in the themes than the background color changes.

Pause/Resume downloads finally in for those that wanted it. My install times were generally fast so the omission never bothered me. All I need on my end now is media playback (a player off USB). Not that interested in DLNA.

PS4 users cannot create their own custom themes or custom background images "at this time". You can, however, choose your own background colour.

Sigh. Is it really that difficult. Cause an 8 year console already does this.

While music must be played from a USB memory stick at the launch of System Update 2.0, Sony is investigating the option to allow music to be stored on the internal hard drive for a future update. "Lots of gamers want to store not only music files but also their favourite video files on [the] PS4 hard drive," Yanase acknowledged. "But... to deliver this kind of custom soundtrack capability as soon as possible is most important for gamers, so we have the highest priority to deliver this function first. Then maybe we can develop it for [internal storage] sometime over the future."

No. Not Maby. You HAVE TO make PS4 able to save video and music files. HAVE TO. Again an 8 year console already does it. Ok Soony????????

Any particular reason why it took this long for themes, of all things, to come to the PS4? Is it really that difficult to program into the system? Or is the rolling out of these seemingly simplistic add-ons a way of reinforcing the idea of adding value?

New OS from the ground up for PS4. MS just put a custom Windows 8 build on the Xbox One. Even there it still takes time to implement things. Like for example screenshots....which proved to be a bit trickier for MS than the simplicity would suggest. Then you have priorities and dev team sizes, and rigorous Q.A..etc, etc..........all of that factors in the time it takes to ship the update.

I understand all that, but it is all on the social media side. I am simply saying none of that exists on the PSN side. As in I cannot share with my Driveclub friends but not my Infamous friends and so on.

And even bringing Facebook into it, if my sister is in my FB Family group, but she has not linked her FB account to PSN, then even sharing the video on FB to Family won't make it appear on her PSN "What's new". It may be viewable on her FB feed, but not on PSN where it will be blacked out. Even though she is a friend on both PSN and FB and in the correct shared group. That's an inconsistency that can get annoying as the "What's new" section often has blacked out videos that in my opinion shoud not be there if they are not viewable.

So currently, the only way to have viewable videos on PSN is to set them to public on Facebook. That will get fixed tomorrow with Youtube if it allows the same settings that it currently supports.

So you ignore the huge additions and focus on themes?

Not sure why so many people are so incredibly upset about some of absent media features. PS3 motto was "it only does everything" the system was built around the blu-ray player and always intended to be a media center.

I thought from the very beginning Sony made clear that PS4 was built as a pure gaming system, and that's what sold me on it so I'd rather see them put efforts into enhancing things that affect my gaming experience, not DLNA or video playback. Of course if they can do both, that's the ideal situation.

The WiiU doesn't really do much besides play games but I don't see many of my fellow WiiU owners up in arms.

Just my 2 cents tho please dont be mad :(

"To reduce clutter, the Home screen has been tweaked to display the 15 most recently used games and apps. The remainder of your icons will be pushed into the Library folder".

Not folders, but well... FINALLY a solution!!!

Yep I'm fine with this. I won't ever be playing more than 15 games at a time.

Maybe in a future update we will be able to configure this number? (15 is still too many without folders).

Pause and resume downloads finally in! Can't believe it took them almost a full year to implement something so basic, embarrassing. Still no sign of friend notifications?

Add 100 people to your friends list and then see how it performs. Add onto that pile of shit the need for the system to notify everyone on that list when yo come off an don and vice verse... never going to happen imo unless they limit it somehow to maybe 10 friends or something.

Or add friend categories (like a "close friends" section). But that will take a bit of work to implement, I'm sure.

Does the USB music drive have to have the FAT32 file system? So much for plugging in my external hard drive...

I don't think they've mentioned, but I'm almost positive it will support exFAT, which is more than suitable for large drives.

This is my ideal solution as well. Close friends with a 10-20 person limit and then casual friends. Close friends always show in your news and are organized separately for invites and such as well as being the ones you get notifications form etc.

I actually don't like this. I have well over 15 games installed and probably will forget something is installed if its not listed.

I am glad to see some of the crap I don't use will be removed.

YouTube allows you to Post videos as public, Unlisted or private. If 2.0 follows the API as they do with Facebook. Unlisted is the option that you want. It will be saved to your YouTube account and only be assessable with a direct link. This should be what you want.

For youtube though can't you easily make a new channel just for PSN shares and set it to public?

It's fucken pathetic this wasn't in from day 1. I wanted to download DC Universe online and it was making me download 29gig and i couldn't pause it.

While it's a good thing the option will be there now, I never saw it as a big problem. DCUO download took a couple of hours for me.

Soooo can't wait for the update. It's so much needed. Hopefully they come out with another big update by the end of the year or before the two big games in 2015.

Well the Vita, X1 and 3DS literally just got them this last month, so I would guess it's just a low-priority feature. It's not something vital to the feature-set of the system, so maybe hold it back for after launch of the console, and you save resources for the launch and also get to share a new bonus feature later in the console's life?

Agreed. This is a silly thing to do. Just give me my damn folders.

The fact that the PS3 was a media center was a huge bonus for me. Streaming content to it, watching movies, etc? Great. The fact that the Wii U doesn't do that is a negative in many consumer's eyes. It may not considered such in the current Wii U owner's minds, but that's because they're hardcore gaming fans. They don't care. Problem is, many people do care. I for one am quite incensed that there's no PS4 media remote still since I use it to watch TV and movies all the time.

I thought the PS4 conversation communication between friends is terrible. For example, if you sent your buddy a message...it takes awhile just for that message to sent it out?? lol. It should be instant. Also it takes a while for you to receive them as well. This is absolute terrible compare to Xbox 360 that I used before. Also the players that you met in game isn't showing up on the "players you met" screen...it appears not working anymore. Hopefully 2.0 fix this problem. The menus should have shortcuts....easy to use and friendly to access. PS4 menus have no shortcuts whatsoever. Anyway, I thought the PS4's menu leave a lot to desire.

I am sure this is a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway..

I just ordered a 2tb hard drive for my PS4 today and it will be here on the 30th. I went to the Sony website and downloaded the PS4UPDATE.PUP file so that I am ready when I replace the hard drive.

Will I have to download a new PUP file after this update or can I use the existing file and let the PS4 update organically?

Thanks for any help
