Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

You could delete messages with the old version - hold a message with your finger and a delete message pops up.

How do I get my iOS to force an update for this app?

Just go into the App Store, then to the Updates section and click the Update button next to the PlayStation App icon.

The iOS app update is available.

Looks better on iPhone 6 and the new home screen is an improvement. Still don't see the option to delete messages, unless I'm missing it. It would come in handy for group messages I always seem to get invited to.

To delete messages, you just click and hold.

Took a long time, and I'm not super impressed with what's being added/improved considering how long it has taken. Here's to hoping the next update is substantial and doesn't take a year.

Most of my music is mp3 anyway, but does anyone know if that's the only format that's going to be supported? Sorry, I searched high and low and didn't see any mention of specific formats.

At least that's a wishlist and not a whine IYSWIM.

In the gamestop article linked to upthread they mention they wanted to get one out quick, hence the USB playback, and are investigating making an internal one.

My guess is they'll wait on feedback to see if enough people bitch to make it worth adding to the development roadmap, especially since MP3 playback is a niche feature already (at least according to Sony's statements about it at launch).

Let me see if I understand... people who want features that the 8+ year old PS3 and/or competing Xbone have are "whiners"? Good to know.

As an aside, I might agree that MP3 playback on a thumb drive is niche, but only because its a half-measure feature that ends up being useless for users who have massive music collections and would like to use internal storage and/or DLNA to play back the entire collection instead of a tiny amount on a thumb drive. Its a baby step in the right direction, but isn't as useful and essentially forces itself to be niche by being gimped.

Android app still terrible by standards of modern app landscape, but significantly better than the old app.

Design still ugly as sin though. Especially with the advent of Material Design on the horizon, even good looking Holo apps feel terrible compared to those few apps already embracing MD.

You could use an external hard drive. Its not just mp3 playback. The music can play in the background of games.

I honestly think its uglier now.

So true.

android app is a nice update. kinda wish they followed google app guidelines, especially new material design. but whatever, still waitin on that firmware tho.

Me too. They could have easily had all the functionality but in a nice material design app. This one is stuttery and follows its own UI that's kind of outdated looking. It also really annoys me that certain things make you leave the app, like streams and the store. Just feels outdated and unpolished.

Cool, thanks for the info! That makes a lot of sense. The USB player will still be a nice feature, it's much better than nothing.

How do you update the Android app manually?

I've just updated mine by opening Google Play app, clicking the 3 lines in the top left and going to My apps, it was in a list of apps that needed updating (for some reason I didn't get notified about).

so. whats everyone gonna play on the USB Music player first???...my choice is the new RUN THE JEWELS album. so fire!!!!

I would assume they have their own design language. Example: Facebook app is not going to be material.

PSN store being in a web page is to avoid Apple's cut in IAP. Probably Google has that as well.

I'm impressed with the app deep linking twitch and ustream apps from Live from PlayStation. I press play in the app and it just opens the stream right away.

I don't understand this mindset. You have wanted this feature for a year. During that year you have been unhappy whilst waiting for said feature. That feature is now here. This should make you happy. But instead you prefer to hold onto unhappiness retrospectively. Why cling onto unhappiness when happiness is upon you?

Did you just skip to the second sentence in my quote? Hear i bolded it for you:

Fantastic that finally pause and resume for downloads are in. Will help greatly manage my data cap in putting some of the PS+ games on the back burner till month rolls over.

Still... Not happy it took almost a year for such a basic feature.

I am happy that this feature is here. So much so that i no longer have to worry about whether or not to claim my PS+ games for the month because every time i want to use my PS4 i worry that those downloads might eat up too much usage.

The reason i added that bit at the end was to express my dissatisfaction with the fact that what seems to be such a basic feature took this long to implement. Sure there maybe to circumstances preventing them from adding it till now but at the same time i felt it has taken Sony way too long to add basic functionality to a OS that was suitable for launch but with now almost a year later...

I wouldn't mind this app not having MD yet (big companies are the worst at adopting new design because of stupid reasons), but it's not even similar design wise to other Sony apps like Walkman or Album. Those also feel native and don't stutter.

At least make it a competently designed Holo app,if nothing else.Right now, it's all function.

true. but as far as android app designs, this is far from the best. I'm sure it looks better on a tablets tho. some of the buttons just seem small.

Yeah, true. I wouldn't mind a nice looking Holo design app at all.

Android app takes an extra tap to access trophies now, which is mainly what I use it for. Oh well, the new layout looks pretty good otherwise.
