Hold your finger on the power button until it beeps and shuts down. Then start it up again and be patient. It will turn off and on once more then reload and do a hard drive check (this is all standard precautionary stuff). After that it will be ready to go. Make sure to shut it down the next time you turn it off. It seems to work fine then after that power cycle for me.

Do not unplug it unless you have to.

The problem with the VAST majority of PS3 themes were that they were so busy you couldn't see what was actually important on the screen. I'll be downloading many, and deleting most of them almost immediately as before I'm sure!

Personally, trying both. Gotta get Costume Quest, Unfinished Swan, and Home.

Neither way in is working....nor will the PS app on my Ipad.

FYI: The power button thing only works sporadically for me. More often than not, I have to unplug it.

I've found that I've had to hold the power button for varying times. It's really odd but, one time it will work after 15 seconds and next time it will take 30 to beep and shut down.

There are times where you have to unplug it though, it's unavoidable. It just should be avoided unless you really have to.

What in the world is going on with the power? I hit to go into rest mode, and instead it powered off completely. Then I turned it back on and it's checking the system storage status. :| Earlier it did the blinking orange light when in rest mode which made me have to do a hard reset, too.

Rest Mode (aka the old Standby mode) is a little borked for many people. It gets "stuck". Unplugging it, waiting for 15 seconds or so, seems to work 100% of the time. SOMETIMES, holding down the power button for 10 or 15 seconds works too.

For me...it gets "stuck" about half the time. I'm just doing full shut downs til Sony gets it sorted.

yes, it is easier to access it through web than through ps4. Make sure to add it to 'downloads" from the web so it auto-downloads on ps4 (if u have it on standby)

I don't have either of those games, but I did Shareplay with Sportsfriends and Tower Fall, both of which are couch co-op only otherwise.

When you unplug it..give it 15 to 30 seconds. Quick power cycles didn't work for me, either.

Then hit the power button (controller won't work to turn it on).

If THAT doesn't work..I'd unplug it, let it sit, and contact sony support. Yours would be the first one we've heard of that the power "tricks" doesn't fix the problem......so I got nothin'.

I thought I'd post this here since 1) I can't create threads and 2) I'm hoping this will get Sony's attention somehow

So my brother has a Japanese PS4 and we decided to upgrade the HDD today. Everything went well until the new installation of the system software (which is here http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps4/new-install/)

Basically you need to download the system software, move it to a USB stick, then re-install the system software. I followed all the steps then I was met with this message

"The update file cannot be used. Connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 2.00 or later (CE-34788-0)"

So here's the problem - the system software install on Sony's website is 1.76. It hasn't been updated in a while and the PS4 is asking for 2.00 or later. So I dunno what to do. The PS4 is basically useless, can't do anything with it until I install the system software which Sony forgot to upload YAY

I really need help guys

It's finicky. Keep at it and you'll get the hard reset.
Unplugging is too risky, especially now that every console has an HDD built in.

So I guess I just can't have the system in standby. Just tried booting into safe mode, and rebuilt the database. After it finished and went into the main UI I put it into rest mode again and it's back to blinking orange.
