I'd wait a bit for them to at least resolve the standby/rest mode issue.

And you can "buy" your themes via web browser..and then just DL 'em when you're back playing. That way if anything goes from "free" to "not free", you already have them in your library.

How is your upload speed? It won't let you do it if the host's upload speed isn't good enough.

So here's the problem - the system software install on Sony's website is 1.76. It hasn't been updated in a while and the PS4 is asking for 2.00 or later. So I dunno what to do. Nothing's working for me. I can see my friends, but can't enter parties and Destiny doesn't work either. Welp.
 
Why must Sony be so incompetent? Why release a major firmware on the same day the PSN store updates? It's like they want to see their servers burn.

I wasn't joking about what I said, "rest mode" most certainly sounds like a Japanese name for standby or sleep mode. But the conversation about the topic is humorous in nature.

If me being honest about Sony's firmware woes "pushes someone over the edge", that is their problem, not mine.

I've held it for close to a minute. It just doesn't work for me all that often.

The HDD isn't likely to fail due to power cycling it in standby, esp if you're not writing to it.

Is it "risky"? Sure, compared to NOT doing it. But it's that or leave it stuck..there's not much of an actual choice. Telling someone to unplug it as a last resort is fine...telling them NOT to unplug it, under any cirucumstances is going to leave their console unplayable.

Try the button, if it doesn't work after a reasonable "hold" time (and for me, it doesn't)....unplug.

And, avoid rest mode at this point til things get sorted.

Good thinking. Seems like PSN is having issues atm anyways. Probably for the best I do it this way.

Is it just a simple case of the entire world sharing servers?

Just updated it here, and it is really good! Much better then before!
The Library now works perfectly, exactly how it should. Theres not even need for a folder option anymore. The Themes was also a great addition, besides only the original, the darker blue, the purple and the green I actually liked in pratice (am using the green now).

However, I'm starting to believe that my PS4 indeed has a problem in its HDMI port. =(
I don't play it as much as I play my XB1 or use my PC, and all of them are linked to the same TV, and all of them via HDMI cables. My PS4 several times "freezes" my TV when turning it off, requiring me to turn the TV off pulling the cable off the energy. When I bought the console I thought it was just a bug of my TV, I changed the HDMI cable and the HDMI ports on the TV and nothing solved it, but I did not believe it was the console fault because it wasnt happening all the time. But now, after quite a time without using the PS4 it just happened again after trying the new update. And I can't remember it happening once with my PC and my XB1. =/
 
Embarrassing, really.

Maybe when people start putting up lawsuits / filing complaints to whatever organization supervises this kind of stuff they'll do something about it, since users are basically being denied the service they're paying for.

There is a different update file for fresh HDD installs, as well as the regular update, a fellow GAF'er here posted it;

Just got kicked out of a BF4 match and can't reconnect to PSN, seems completely offline since it gives me an instant error message.

Mine was also on standby when I was at work. Installed the update without any problem. Not putting it standby after the update obviously.
 
Damn, it seems PSN is down, again. I swear I am about to start documenting every single time PSN is down when I want to access to see how much downtime I ended up having in a month. I mean what I am paying for? For servers that are never available when I want to play some games online?
 
Man, now I'm terrified to update my console! I already had my launch PS4 shit the bed on me a month after launch. I do not want to go through all of that mess again.

It is pretty great, isnt it? And this is why publishers will love it.

I finally got to update my PS4, and now PSN is down again. :/ I really wanted to look at the themes, plus I want to see if Freedom Wars is up in the store yet.
 
psn is undergoing maintenance. If you go to the us psn store you can see YouTube app under apps . But it gives an error when i select it

Says this content cannot be selected at this time

I never said I appreciate when their network isn't working I said I appreciate this update as in I think its a pretty solid one with all the features they added. I am not going to bitch and moan because its having a few hiccups atm. I don't tweet, you seem to like to stir the pot so why don't you do it for me.

Instead of unplugging the cord from the surge protector I just re-cycled the surge protector and that seems to have worked. I was able to use the power button on the console to restart the PS4.

I'm not trying rest mode again. Sony why :(
