Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

So how many people were able to successfully play multiplayer games last night? That's my only real concern here. I'm planning on buying Advanced Warfare on Monday, and I want to be able to play it that night.
I played a couple hours of Garden Warfare with no problems. Couldn't sync up my YouTube account, but that's another matter...

I am not having any issues with rest mode. Played Destiny from disc multiple times last night and this morning after booting from rest mode with no issues.

Likewise, no issues with rest mode. No disc in the drive(in fact, I haven't ever put a disc in - all digital). Both USB slots taken up charging the controller and gold headset.

We may be the odd ones out here though.

I haven't run into any problems putting the system into rest mode. I've done so at least 3 times, including having it in rest mode overnight. I have a wireless dongle for the Pulse headset taking up one of the USB ports and a physical disc in the drive.

Edit: I am running into issues trying to link to my youtube account. I've tried several times without success.

Same setup as me, no issues. (So far)

Same here :/

Hmm, I have had an issue when I first put it into rest mode. Then I had a USB stick for music in the subsequent times and haven't had an issue since. Maybe having something in the USB slot gets around the issue? That'd be funny if it is the case.

I had the pulsing Orange light on my first shutdown after installing and again this morning after leaving it in Rest all night. All other shutdowns have been fine though.
Each time I had a disc in the drive and a USB stick inserted.
It hasn't asked me to rebuild the database either time (nor after updating) and in general seems fine.

Unplugging the unit is unnecessary btw, if it happens to you just hold down power for about 5 seconds and it'll shutdown.

You can now have two USB storage devices plugged in and it won't ask you to remove one when copying SHARE screenshots or videos. It comes up with a new screen asking which you want to copy to.

So I've been mulling over getting a PS4 over the holiday season but was confused about this rest feature. Is this the new suspend/resume we've been waiting for or has this been a mode available since launch?

Man I wish i'd seen this thread earlier, why has no mod edited the title to warn people not to install?
I put my PS4 into rest mode like i've done after every play session for the past year and the thing started making weird noises and was pulsing orange. Wouldn't turn back on and wouldn't eject disc. Left it an hour and was still pulsing.
Out of desperation I pulled the power cord out, not a wise idea i think. It took 3 attempts to get the machine to turn on again and then I was met with this

Horrible

No, they just renamed standby more to rest mode. The suspend/resume mode is still being worked on.

They just renamed Standby to rest, i'm guessing many people were turning off the console after each use and Sony is trying to make it clear that Standby/Rest is the way to go.

the system wouldn't turn back on so I had to hold the power button for 15 seconds. when it finally booted I received a message telling me not to unplug the power cable when the PS4 is on standby.

don't think I'm gonna put this thing on standby anymore. not trying to corrupt my hard drive.

for those looking for a possible solutions to this, rebuilding the database seems to have fixed this for me.

*knocks on wood*

Sounds like they have altered the way standby works in preparation for the suspend functionality. Why else would they tamper with it and then rename it.

The solution isn't to not install the update - it's to just not use the rest/standby mode. Fully power it down and on each time and you should be fine.

When I boot up the console and select my profile before the camera recognizes my face, it prompts the facial recognition tutorial as if it didn't already have my facial data.

So annoying.

So at least the system still downloads in reset mode....and that's the main reason I like using the feature, so that updates are downloaded when I'm not home.

But yes, I've been having the same issue....will I really be taking the chance of corrupting my hard drive if I leave it in reset mode and when I'm ready to play later at night...just do the hold power for 15 secs thing?

Or should I just power down each time and wait for updates to download and install for my most played games when I'm ready to play again. Now that I think about it more, I think the second option might be best. I might just turn on the system as soon as I get in the door...and make a sandwich. :/

PS4 for a year and new to the Bone. Really like the Ones UI much more. Software, hardware yada yada yada.

The fuck has this got to do with it?

Anyway, tried the Rest Mode as wanted to charge my other controller, even though I've read everyone's problems with it.....it didn't work (flashed orange and I held the power button etc to get back on rather than unplug).

I considered then to try Warlock 7's recommendation (cheers Warlock7) but shit it at the last minute and was just going to leave the ps4 on until my other controller fully charged but I turned the TV off whilst it was doing it (got the HDMI linked ????) - THIS then put my ps4 automatically into Rest and it now shows a solid orange light on side of ps4. Going to leave until controller charged and see if comes back on.

Put me in the category of "update worked, no issues".

Played about four hours of Destiny last night using the new voice chat, then put it into standby (uh, rest mode). No issues here.

Oh, I did change my theme to "rectangles".

Eject game disc before put your ps4 in rest mode, it works for me and my friends

I wondered what was being discussed here because a few days before the update, my Eject button studdenly stopped working... I must eject all disks from the software menu now.

But I guess this is unrelated... I also had this blinking orange bar issue, on my first boot up after installing the update. I had to pull the power cable. I expect I will need to do this again next time I try to boot up... fantastic...

2.01 patch coming in next couple days...

I've lost power to both my PS4 and PS3 several times and never had a problem - but there's always a chance your data could be corrupted. To be on the safe side it's probably best to just be turning it off completely until this is fixed. Just deal with the updates as they come.

You have a lot of concerns in Sony threads. Why would you be concerned that multiplayer gaming would suddenly stop working? Just check your friends list, you should see people playing MP games like Destiny every night.

I've had no issues with rest mode but I think I will just do a full shut down for a while. Hopefully Sony will clear it up quickly.

I don't have anything plugged in, no issues with standby.

Well this worked for me....crazy.

Hope they patch this soon. Reason I left my disc in there is because I have other digital games and it was so convenient to have my 2 most played games ready each time.

Madden (physical) DriveClub (Digital)

That's silly if true.

I've found that it's hit or miss right now. Sometimes it wakes right up but other times it just hangs. I'm just doing a shutdown for now as well.
