Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available NOW

No problem at all with rest mode here, tried about 10 times since yesterday.
My only issue is the fact that uploading videos to Youtube is broken because you can't sign in correctly.

Still it's evident that whatever strategy Sony is using to test their firmware releases before they are made available to the public isn't working at a level to be considered predictable of what's going to happen when million users update their consoles.
Too many bugs go unnoticed and when new big features are introduced, we make the beta testing for them and now we'll have to deal with stability updates fixing the bugs in the upcoming weeks :P
My opinion is that they should reconsider the fact of leaving firmware updates in the hands of a single japanese team, those guys can't handle it alone.

In fact I believe the Japanese team should be done away with completely

It took me a minute to figure that out too. You just have to use the search function, go to their profile, and add them from there.

It would make more sense if they had it under the Friends Request tab.
That works, thanks.

Sony sure do love changing things for the sake of it with their updates!

An earlier tip in this thread regarding the standby mode blinking said to try taking the console's disc out every time before entering standby, and surprisingly that seems to be working for me at the moment. I recommend that folks try it if they haven't already. I did notice my system's disc drive spinning when entering standby mode before doing this, so it did seem like a logical 'fix' for my issue I guess.

I noticed a cople of nice changes just now while playing BF4:

1) The invite screen that pops up when you send an invite is improved both aesthetically and in terms of performance. It's now a simple pop-up, and there's no more stutter or waiting for the 'send' button to load. Here's a pic:

qbTRiP5.jpg

2) It's much easier to view messages while in-game now due to you being able to simply press the PS button to take you to the message, instead of having to go back to the UI and check your messages manually. There was no stuttering, no annoying loading circle while waiting for the message to appear, and the timestamps on the messages were actually accurate.

Two small additions, but they really streamline those processes, which is important if you're in a MP game like BF4.

How to fix Youtube Upload and sign in issues:

If you have previous attempted and can't sign into Youtube or use Upload Features try this:

Go into your google account settings, Account Permissions and revoke access to PSN.

Go back to PS4, link to other services, and re-sign in and you should see a access grant list, approve it.

Upload and Youtube Access will now work.

THANK YOU!

Something must have gltiched with the saved auth when the servers were getting hammered. This fixed it!

I havent put my console to rest mode yet (hardly even used it in the past with electric bills and all), but anyone with the new revised white console have a rest mode problem??

Not that you shouldn't worry at all about the electricity, but the rest mode (if you have USB powering disabled) is around 2W.

It's only when USB powering is on that it's the 8-9W which is definitely too high.

Yup, this is what fixed it for me. I

Sony doesn't know what's going on or how to fix it permanently. The problem re-occurs even though I've gone through the trouble of fixing it several times now.

The Safe Mode is the best solution. I didn't have the rest bug initially and my PS4 froze and the rest bug happened and I tried the hold the power button and it allowed me access to my PS4 but the rest bug was still there. Someone in the other thread stated the safe mode has worked for many people and I tried it link below
https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5044/~/ps4:-safe-mode

Just follow the steps and rest mode isn't a problem.

Starting the PS4 in Safe Mode

Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.
Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.
Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

Safe Mode Options

The following options are available in Safe Mode:

Restart System - Ends Safe Mode and restarts the PlayStation 4 normally.

Change Resolution - Changes the screen resolution to 480p when the PlayStation 4 is restarted.

Update System Software - Allows the PlayStation 4 to update the system software via
Internet, USB Drive, or Disc.

Restore Default Settings - Restores the PlayStation 4 to the default factory settings.

Rebuild Database - Scans the drive and creates a new database of all content.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.

Initialize PS4 - IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step.
Deletes all user data and restores the PS4 as if it just came out of the box. This option is the same as [Initialize PS4 ] in the (Settings) menu. System software (firmware) is not deleted.

Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) - IMPORTANT: Deletes all information on the HDD, including the System Software. A message that states a USB storage device containing the System Software must be connected, is displayed. Then you can confirm the selection.

If you're in a "Party" but people only use it to text chat is there a way to see the notifications like on the PS3 or at least to get a notification that someone wrote anything...?

I had been unaffected by the "Rest Mode" blinking light bug....until this morning. I've decided to power the PS4 all the way off until a firmware fix is rolled out. Shame I won't be able to remote play as conveniently as before but it's better than risking data corruption.

So if I had my PS4 set to standby before the update so that could get the update pushed to me - can I refuse to update or does it install in standby mode as well? I'd rather wait for a patch if possible.

And what's up with everyone calling it "rest mode"?? Did they rename "standby" to "rest?"

It downloads by default, but won't install without some interaction from you.

Yup. I predict a third option is going to become available eventually, to (finally) allow suspend/resume at the game level.

Oh, I thought that Tidux Character said this update would have it... Oh well. Everything else in the update is pretty good and has worked for me (thus far!^^).

He is full of shit.

But i'll be honest, he never said it would have online status stuff, he just retweeted someone he said that.

Thanks. And that's interesting about the new name! Just haven't had time to log into my PS4 until today.

Manages to link my Youtube account, can't sign into youtube in the app though, just get a "The feature is temporarily unavailable"message.

If I try to upload a video to youtube It won't do it, just says "cannot upload"

Also the standby mode problem happens to me wether I have USB power set to 3 hours or always, makes no difference

the voice commands are much improved.
"Playstation" - "Netflix" - "Start"
"Playstation" - "Driveclub" - "Start"
"Playstation" - "Power" - "Shut Down"
shit works

Someone pointed out that this issue already existed pre-2.0: when you had an App open on the PS4 and put it into sleep mode, it would sometimes go into rest mode.

This though has stopped my doubting on whether to include issue tracking in my techingames.net database as well. :D Will probably be in there tonight.

To small number of users, and most of them can fix it.

On my end, everything works great.

I agree with the first..but not necessarily with the last.

It's a relatively small number, I agree.

I'm not sure "most of them can fix it", though. I've tried every suggestion (except the disc one, above..that's next) offered, and nada. I suspect there are a fair number of people, given the comments here and elsewhere, in the same boat.

SOME can fix it...and their solutions are varied. No ONE thing seems to work for "most people".

It's not a deal breaker..and I'm not going to flame Sony for the problem. But it IS annoying.

[Settings]>[Power Save Settings]>[Set Functions Available in Rest Mode]>[Supply Power to USB Ports]>[Always]

Dunno if this has been posted yet. Change [3 Hours] to [Always] in the settings above.

reddit thread here
Nope, tried it.

Also was suggested you plug your controller into the USB port and THEN put it in rest mode (with that controller). Doesn't work for me, either.

To be fair game/app launching worked perfect since launch for me.

Just an FYI:

Depending on your power costs, it will vary a bit..but if you leave your PS4 in rest mode, 24/7, 30 days a month...at it's highest power consumption (about 10w), you're talking about 60 cents a month.

At it's lowest setting (ie: USB is not on "always" or, if it is, you're not actually charging anything most of the time)...about 15 cents a month.

I wouldn't worry about your power bill. :)

My ps4 turned off for no reason, when i restarted it said i pulled a cable out, which i didnt. Anyone else had this problem?

I think this new, and I don't know if someone else has mentioned it. But if you click the options button on a game on the home screen there's an extra option, 'Check for Update'.

Late to the update... Surely already asked, but how can I find the themes in the store? Tried ger and us store but couldn't find anything.

I ran into an odd issue yesterday when I checked my Notifications. It was full of failed uploads of titles which I don't want to upload to the cloud. If you have the system set up to have power after it goes into the new "rest mode" it now forces you to upload all saves to the cloud, well, my cloud storage was FILLED to capacity and a bunch of titles weren't able to complete the upload process.

I am wondering if this doesn't have something to do with the way that the "rest mode" bug happens... All the notifications were within a minute of each other. Could this be the bug they created? When the system goes into "rest mode" and it starts uploading ALL saves on the system, a "feature" nobody announced and I for one never asked for, when the system runs into a failed upload does it then go into the pulsing orange light mode due to the inability to finish the upload jobs?

Why would Sony take away the ability to selectively upload the saves to the cloud that the user chooses to upload? The PS3 lets you decide which games will upload to the cloud and which ones will not. I have way too many save files to fit on the cloud and I do not want the PS4 to make decisions like that for me, as it obviously can't be trusted to make the right choices.

Now that you mention it I had the same thing happen. A ton of failed game save uploads.

Makes me wonder if it's not mis-interpreting the ability to place save games in the cloud as a network failure which may cause it to go into the pulsing orange failure mode...

For the rest mode issue, taking the disk out definitely makes a difference for me. I've been testing for about 20 min or so. Takes about 30 seconds or so to go solid orange when going into rest mode (longer than before) but I've only had ONE hang in that 20 min of testing and multiple successes.

That's progress, for me. It was hanging about 50% of the time, prior, with a disc in.

i really don't understand why you would fuck with your system like that turning it on and off and trying a bunch of shit. let sony figure it out and fix it.

until them my system will be completely off when not in use

'Cause it's what I do. And the risk is relatively low, actually. I'm letting it go ALL the way into rest, waiting a bit, and turning it back on. If the power cycle is normal, it shouldn't hurt anything.

If it had locked up right off the bat (like it has been), I wouldn't have continued testing.

I wanted to test "enough" to be confident that it solved it for me reliably enough to leave it in rest mode....so I did.

If you'd rather wait....wait. I don't mind testing and contributing to the discussion/attempts to solve the problem here.

Does anyone know if this update has wiped all remote play settings and the psn app connection? My vita and phone ain't finding my ps4 whereas they'd work without issues before the update
