Sony won in terms of new games and surprises. Started with a bang and ended with a bang, but the middle part was seriously sagging.

Microsoft won in terms of presentation. Tight, short, no filler, lots of games, no bullshit. Zero surprises though. No megatons.

Nintendo's show was extremely short and completely aimed at Nintendo fans. Seeing as i'm really not into Smash or Zelda, it left a lot to be desired.
The presentation was very well done though. Really slick.

you appear to basically be saying the guy is wrong because he doesn't like the same things as you, and then proving your point by listing things you liked.

That's not what I was saying at all. He said that there was a constant slew of games. I said that there were just as many, more games actually, at the Sony event. It might have felt to the contrary because of that 20m pause for hardware and services that they did. I then went on to my other impressions about the conference. Two separate thoughts. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I think the amount of mixed consensus and genuine excitement for certain projects indicate that all 3 had a pretty good E3 for the first time in ages.

This year and next are looking surprisingly solid for console gaming.

To me their big games were Halo and Crackdown and Phantom Dust and Forza Horizon 2 and Ori and Project Spark and Sunset Overdrive and Fable Legends and Scalebound and Killer Instinct Season 2. Six of which are coming out this year (7 if you include the Fable Legends beta).

Every game was big game. You forgot Dance Central.

I can't believe I'd probably rate Nintendo highest. Sony was good, too, Ubisoft was cringey and EA was shite.

Why is no-one talking about Nintendo?
Nintendo isn't really part of that discussion amongst the mainstream and enthusiast media. It's two juggernauts duking it out while Nintendo does their own little thing in the background. That's the narrative.

I was pleased all the conferences focused predominately on games, and their strengths as platform holders. Most of the bullshit from last-gen is buried and gone. Thank god.

MS won for me because they announced a new Crackdown and a Pantom Dust remake, two games I was sure to never see again.

I liked the Nintendo Digital Event too, those little skits with Nintendo characters were short and funny and the games they announced looked great. Zelda... omg.

Nintendo showed incredible stuff. Only thing i liked about Sony is BloodBorne. I don't really care about MS.

I'm not a usual console warrior, but holy balls, are they stupid? Is this some sort of joke? Have they not watched the Nintendo stream?

which besides halo collection are exactly what exclusives?

The Halo package imo is that good and is a system seller. Sony while still having a good show there is no system seller in the foreseeable future. It's flip a coming between the shows both were solid.

I don't think Sony or Microsoft beat each other in any way...not at all.

I was very happy to see Zelda FINALLY from Nintendo, but I still have to wait for 2015.

The console games I'm looking forward to are Uncharted, Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Zelda, and Metal Gear.

The PC version of games I'll be buying are Batman, GTA V, The Witcher 3, and Grim Fandango.

Those would be my "hype" / "can't wait to play them" games.

I suppose Microsoft has the most "exlusives" I'm interested in, but I don't think any of them "Won E3".

Your clarification doesn't really clarify anything; the dude wasn't saying anything about Sony, or that MS had more games than Sony. He was just saying he liked MS's conference better and they had a constant flow of games. You were literally just interjecting to tell him he was underrating Sony because you liked their conference.

This is exactly what we were hoping to avoid by not allowing members to post quick reaction threads during E3.

Every company needs to adapt Nintendos style of presentation, that is for sure.

Bonus points for making all of the press cry then.

I didnt realize that Kingdom Under Fire 2 and Planteside 2 were coming to tablets and were published by Zynga. Thanks for the insider tip, Slick.

For me? Sony > Nintendo = Microsoft. The only thing that got me hyped up during the MS presentation was a game we'd already seen. Sunset Overdrive continues to look amazing. Sony had a hitch in the middle section, but a friend of mine was ridiculously excited for Powers. So I guess I wasn't the right audience for that one. Nintendo brought out the big guns, but nothing that really appealed to me. I would have preferred a new Galaxy to Captain Toad.

CNET:
Sony hits all the PlayStation 4 high notes at E3 2014
At its E3 evening press conference, Sony strikes hard on all its strengths with unexpected game reveals and updates on its numerous ongoing projects.

ExtremeTech:
Sony wins E3 2014: Microsoft gambled on games, and lost

EDGE:
Sony’s E3 2014 press conference: Greater daring and diversity seal another confident PS4 victory

And I agree.
Sony had clearly the best conference. Greater diversity, etc.

Nintendo's Digital Event was a great shocker (Zelda!!!!!)

someone in another thread put it best:
Sony's conference was like a mountain where they went up and down but scaled very high. Microsoft was like walking in Wisconsin , consistent but nothing mind blowing

dat Zelda though. Such a small glimpse :(

Nintendo's conference was the best. It was humorous, self-aware, to the point, and it had a few genuine surprises. I'm tired of the condescending PR talk a lot of companies exhibit in the other conferences. It makes me not want to buy their games.

People put down Sonys show because they talked about more than just games. I personally was interested in the the other stuff they talked about. Probably helps that I read comics and I know who Brian Michael Bendis is. Also Vita TV was something I've been wanting, and Morpheus is very much something I want.

Overall though, I thought they all had great shows, so it's a good E3 for me.

I thought Nintendo absolutely killed it this year. The other conferences aren't in the same discussion for me. But between Sony and MS, Sony had more I was interested while MS's conference didn't put me to sleep.

Probably the free to play Vita stuff.

Don't get me wrong I'm hyped for Scalebound but two issues:

1. CGI means nothing to me. It's just as good as simply stating the game is being made

2. The games are late 2015/2016, why even announce bow other than to pad out? MS must have some games coming earlier that would be better to announce now, no?

This either means that they're exclusive lineup is severly anemic, or that they decided to save games coming out the first half of 2015 for... later?

For me, thise two points take a lot from MS' announcements

by a country mile. Who would have thought?

Anyone?

A serious Nintendo is unmatched when it comes to first-party exclusives and the ability to consistently deliver best-in-class games.

Personally, if Nintendo rediverts all its development resources to one platform instead of two, I'd say Nintendo first-party's output is stronger than MS/Sony. COMBINED.

Because they did show a bunch of games.... most of which will be on PS4, probably better too. That's the issue

Oh yeah, what a big issue it was when Sony was showing games on the PS3 that would end up being "better" on the 360. What an outrage. Showing a strong support for third parties is important.

I get your point but personally I don't really care if games are announced in CGI form or whatever. Just knowing that these games are coming is enough for me. I know that a lot of people prefer gameplay reveal though.

You cant be serious. We knew EVERY SINGLE game from ms e3.

A leak to an internet forum doesn't automatically make the games less exciting. Bloodbound and Crackdown were both leaked but they have ravenous fanbases who were still excited to see them.

Edit: Dragonborn, you aren't seriously making this argument when Sony featured both Kingdom Hearts and FF XV at their conference last year, games that won't be out until late 2016 and 2018 if we're lucky.

MS didn't even feature their entire 2014/15 lineup (Quantum Break and D4 were noticeably absent). Showcasing 3rd party games is part of the business of selling 3rd party games.

Looks like the overarching sentiment from what I've read so far is between "it was pretty close" to "Sony had a much better conference".

Coming from expectations that can by and large be represented by "Microsoft will blow everyone away", it's a fairly surprising twist.

Certainly not a blowout by Sony but, well, Microsoft needed that blowout, and it didn't happen.

Could you expand among those? Indies are "candy crush vita games"?

That entire segment with Free2play/Vita/numbers/Playstation TV was complete shit. Nothing shown there interests me in the least. Nothing on Vita was worthwhile and I've already played Planetside 2 and Loadout, both of which are garbage. If we're talking about indie games, both Sony and MS showed quite a few so I don't consider a "landslide victory" to be apparent here.

Nintendo had a lot of stuff I have no interest in. Mario Maker looks wonderful. Kind of like saying screw off to clowns using their assets to make mobile games. They did however have the one thing I've wanted since the game was shown to be alive, and that's Bayonetta 2. They delivered again with a trailer, and actually gave me a release date, plus the first game too. I can officially plan on buying a Wii U to go along with Bayonetta 2 in October because of that. Add one more console and game sold to your balance books NTDOY shareholders.

With a good and fair conscious, I can't rate Nintendo's conference because they're making a lot of games I haven't had interest in since the N64. Those aren't for me at all. It would be wrong of me to judge them based on that and the fact that Bayo 2 is my sole reason for even caring about their existence at this time. I got what I wanted and I'm happy. That's as far as I'll go.

Pretty much.

Anything else is just people leaning on their personal 'preferences'. And quite frankly especially on Gaf there's no changing people's minds.

Sony=MS>nintendo

there was 1 game in the nintendo presentation that was kinda interesting for me (Bayonetta), the rest I have no desire to ever play while MS and Sony both provided a long list of games that i look forward to playing, can't really decided between sony or MS

My assessment MS did have a great pacing and very little small talk but nothing in gameplay form sold me however for the MS folks I'm sure a lot of the exclusives will appeal to them. Sony had Bloodborne I need that in my life ASAP, the momentum went down for a period but that was sandwiched by exclusive (LBP3 in Novmber yay they have a Fall game now), multiplatform, f2p, indie stuff I can get behind. Nintendo's new Zelda looks amazing. Everyone won :) even if a lot of it's 2015.

Edit: Second biggest mistake from Sony's conference, should have show a bit of Bloodborne gameplay I'm sure it's coming but would have been nice.

It was two separate thoughts, which I explained. Do stop forcing your perceptions of what I said into this dialog please. The problem with being a mod is in how some of you throw your weight around. Its unseemly. Tell you what, do me a favor and just ban me for posting something you can't construe, and/ or just don't like. There's no option I can find to cancel my account anyhow, and this place has really gone to the dogs lately.

It is, but not to the degree MS did. Most of their games were multiplats, the rest we already knew about or were CGI.

As a games show it was great, as an Xbox conference trying to convince me to jump in, it was not. You kinda get what I'm saying?

No clear "winner" to me, which is good since the whole "who won E3 argument" is useless.

Microsoft had a great conference.
Sony had a great conference.
Ubi had a good conference.
Nintendo had a great "thing".

The only real loser here is EA... oh my god that was awful.

He said sony's was more predictable, yet we knew everything already for ms event, whereas for sony they actually had surprises.

Purely based upon games I would like to play this year and games I want to play next year and beyond, MS had it for me. Love Crackdown, love Fable even if it has changed style, Halo is 50/50 for me. Sure its cool to have to all under one roof/box but I want to see Halo 5 before going crazy. Sunset Overdrive looks bonkers fun and the Kamiya/Platinum game has suggestions of brilliance if they really make it awesome.

I think all 3 had good showing of games, even if I checked the Nintendo one and only really want Zelda and X. More Mario stuff in its different guises does nothing for me anymore. Still, I have a Wii-U, so I will hold onto it.

For Sony its only Bloodborne that looks like the type of game I would play but thats miles away. Maybe once it shows its head the PS4 will have price dropped by then. Solid showing for fans of Sony games but nothing that exciting for me personally.

Not a crazy E3 but a solid one for all concerned. Games were shown and that is good enough for me.

Honestly the big three were fairly even this year. I might give it to MS this year just because of the Last Guardian bait and switch. Nintendo was good but nothing really shocked me. I knew Zelda was coming (I mean if they didn't show it now, when would they) and guessed it would be open world. Nothing really wow'd me except for Arkham Knight and Grim Fandango.

Ubisoft was alright and EA was abysmal.

Ultimately it really comes down to which game console you like or which game maker you like. It's hard to be unbiased on these when it comes to fanboys like us, lets be honest. If you really love your Wii U or like Nintendo games, you are going to think Nintendo dominated. You are going to think that squid online shooter game is the best thing ever. You are going to love more Yoshi and Toad and Kirby. Same with Sony and MS to a lesser extent. Personally I thought all three console makers did a good job of giving their fans reason to be happy with their purchases. Not sure Nintendo did much to attract a new audience, but with the Wii U that ship might have sailed. Sony did a good job of peppering a ton of little announcements here and there that might either end up forgotten or irrelevant or could prove to be huge in a year or so. Who knows. No Man's Sky and Far Cry 4 are my games of the show so far and Sony had both of those so that gives them the edge for me.
