Majora's Mask 3DS announced!

The bank would still be a good way to save up Rupees even if they aren't lost every cycle. I certainly wish there was a place in Ocarina of Time where you could deposit your money for later withdrawal; I spent about 98% of that game with a completely full wallet.
Money on Zelda games has been an issue for quite some years, you tend to earn more than you spend... Because there are not a lot of things to spend it on.

The cheap way out.

Majora Mask is actually one of the better ones with that money issue, by a mile, the fact you lose money if you can't be arsed to save it certainly playing a part.
Never considered this before... but does this mean that Mario's dead and the Happy Mask Salesman converted him into a mask?

Has every Mario appearance since then (or even before) just been the Happy Mask Salesman wearing the Mario Mask??

</conspiracy>
Spoiler: Happy Mask Salesman is Miyamoto.

Wait? You actually like things? Color me impressed lol

I own over 1000 physical video games (and hundreds more digital), it should come as no surprise that I like things.

Despite having it on N64 and the GCN collection discs, I'll definitely be picking up Majora's Mask 3DS Day 1.
Even if it is
the worst non-CDi Zelda game.
Well, either that or Wind Waker

Twilight Princess takes that honor.

I'm pretty sure that I'm almost alone with my opinion, but I really din't like Oot. I never played it on the N64 but bought it for the 3DS and played until the temple in that fish's belly.

How does Majoras Mask compare to Oot? I heard about the general opionion thas its quite different, grim and more mature.

Do you think I would have fun with Majoras mask or should I give it a pass?

I apologize if this was talked about yet, but since the thread's already at 66 pages I hope you bare with me.

Give Majora's Mask a chance. It is a very different game from OOT. You should give OOT a second chance too since Jabu Jabu's Belly really isn't that far into the game.

You might find MM more interesting since it's more about investigating a game world that is much more detailed and dynamic than the world in OoT. There are only a handful of dungeons since the focus is on side-quests with characters who go about their schedules whether you're there to see them or not, and whose lives you can affect in different ways. Also, there are masks to collect that give you powers, including several that transform you into characters like the Goron, who can roll around the world at high speeds like a podracer from Star Wars, or the Zora, who swims underwater like a jetfighter and can leap out of the water like a dolphin. The game is also extremely atmospheric, and the characters are all very memorable. The game has a ton of heart and personality. So, you might like it, despite not liking OoT, although I suppose that depends on what you didn't like about OoT.

there are no 3D images anymore. one of the things they cut to make the eShop load faster.

I'm assuming the "Nintendo 3DS Download Only" text is placeholder. I'd be surprised if Nintendo pulled an Ace Attorney on a Zelda title.

You have missed the part where they already showed box art and a special edition, I guess?

You're doing the exact same kind of things. Do you like other Zelda games? Also, are you from Jupiter or something?^^

Majora's Mask is quite different in terms of tone, themes, and subject matter. However, it also pretty much assumes that you've played through Ocarina. In addition to item/enemy descriptions being very brief (they have a "you should already know how to do this, right?" tone to them), the overall difficulty of MM is a little higher, plus the time mechanic can add a lot of pressure.

I would recommend you try to at least finish Jabu-Jabu's Belly and head to the Temple of Time. The stuff that happens at that point in the game is really eye-opening, and gives you a strong sense that the adventure is only just beginning. Majora's Mask is an amazing game, but the experience becomes quite a bit richer when you play it after completing Ocarina, and realizing just how different the two games are.

Definitely keep playing. All of the following dungeons are way more fun.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm really going to try finishing OOT first. There's still plenty of time left until Majors Mask's release.

Ocarina of Time doesn't begin until the Forest Temple. Everything leading up to that is simply the prologue.
Sorry, not true.

Prologue is the first temple, up to that point and for 1998 game standards nothing looks out of place in the foggy, closed-down nature of the areas.

Kokiri_Forest.png

Then you get to Hyrule Field - where the hell did these open spaces and blue sky come from? - game begins.

Locations%20-%20Field--article_image.jpg

Back when I got the game I actually thought I would see the credits after the first 3 temples. Granted, I was but a kid, but although those were clearly introductory temples with introductory items at that (a lot of them rendered redundant by the time skip) they were no prologue.

While in adult form, or rather when you do reach it... You know every area you're in, just not inside the temples and some areas you couldn't access before, it's certainly not a "demo" for the rest of the game when you get acquainted with the game world the way you do through it.

First temple is the only thing that can be called a prologue.
Wow, that makes it worse than Kingdom Hearts II.
It isn't.

Ocarina of Time has very good pacing and it's a nintendo game, so it doesn't feel very sectioned (Kingdom Hearts II is too sectioned, breaks pacing constantly) or make you sit through more cutscenes than it should.

It's considered by a lot of people the best game ever, I never heard people stating that about KH2.

True, to me Majora Mask is the proper way to do sequels, not just more of the same but differentiating it while re-using what it can - but that's something you can only appreciate fully knowing OoT beforehand.

Incredibly excited for this game, it will bring the # of zelda games I own digitally on my 3DS to eight! What a sweet system for any zelda fan!

I get the feeling the LE will come to North America.

It'll be announced 5 days before release, Gamestop/Nintendo World Store exclusive, 2 copies per store.

I kind of agree in the sense that I hate the Deku Tree, Mines, and Jabu Jabu dungeons (and if we're *only* talking about dungeon stuff).
The kid stuff in between isn't too bad, and it's obviously a lot more pleasant to stroll through than the time jump. :p
