Akashi on the last page looked absolutely terrible. And no feels for him, just want this match to be over already.

Girls Go Around 1-2 - Theme of "regret" and girls doing time loops due to regretting their decisions. He'll probably have a full harem soon.

Also, I'm waiting for the tragedy arc. Regret and time loops? C'mon. Someone has to kill themselves (or gets killed)! It's like ... the entire purpose of the setup. Solve some minor things and then someone dies.

Plus, the girls are good:

poor class rep and childhood friend (who will probably be a yandere because I hope she's a yandere) but you can't stand up to the power of first girl.

Girls Go Around 3 - group date, hooray

Girls Go Around 4 - another date but with third (fourth, I guess?) girl. Hyper girl with a fang. Dear lord.

...

"Ah, it happened again..."

welp

Attack on Titan Vol 1 and 2

I wanted to review each one last night but was too tired to and went to bed. Anyway...my impressions of these, with their official translation, is no different from my impressions a couple of years ago.

It's a thrilling and exciting action series with some solid character arcs. I'm definitely interested in the world this is taking place, especially when it comes to the origins or the source of the Titans.

With that being said I can't get over how terrible the art is. The proportions for the characters are all over the place. It's so blatant and excessive it really takes me out of the experience. Maybe the anime fixes this?

Maybe I haven't gotten to it's defining arc yet, but I'm not seeing this as the second coming of anime or whatever people like to call it. Nothing being done here is really all that new, the only thing new is that it's material that usually doesn't get this much exposure on a worldwide level. FMA was the same way really, the only difference is that I genuinely feel FMA had better storytelling and character arcs in the first two volumes than this manga does.

Anyway it's definitely a solid start to the series, and I'm looking forward to reading more. B

The art never gets better, but I guess it never really bothered me.

People say it everytime something dark and edgy comes out.
Yeah you're right. I distinctly remember a time where everyone thought Gantz was the greatest thing ever. I think people still do...but they never read the entire series so it's whatever.

I know! But I mean, I love this manga, but people think it's the best thing ever made just because it's darker than what they usually read/watch.

Have you read it? How do you know it isn't?

Wait did Gunnm: Last Order end a couple of months ago? Holy shit, about time. Might catch up now.

The final chapter of Last Order was released on January 28, 2014. A sequel manga will begin in mid 2014.

Ffffffuuuuuck.

I said I loved it yes.

I mean, I guess I just don't want to speak for other people, but I don't feel like the common sentiment is that its the best thing ever. I think its more that people like it more than anything else that's come out recently.

I'm just telling what I read on forums and what I heard from people I know in real life. Just because it's more violent (it really is the reason I hear all the time) than your average shonen they're all claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Whatever floats their boat you know, I'm not judging, it's just an observation. People acted the same way when Death Note was the shit because it was dark.

It's the new One Piece, it really is. There, and here.

It manages to recapture the essence of the 90s/00s while delivering typical endless shounenshit. The rough art actually helps because it looks "gritty", versus the kind of clean and sterile art you see these days in Jump.

Not even close. More like the new FMA if anything is an apt comparison.

Not seeing how it captures the essence of 90s/00s anime, unless it's now cyberpunk or a mecha series.

The art can be rough and still have correct proportions to things. At first I thought it might've just been a way to stylize the Titans, but nope it's the human characters too...it's fucking awful. Just as bad as Baki the Grappler.

This is kind of insulting to FMA but I can't entirely deny it.

Rest assured, however, that Attack on Titan will have nowhere near the tight pacing and cohesion of FMA once all is said is done.

Grit, violence. The things that made "anime" stand apart from "cartoons" back during the 90s boom (in the US).

I watched Attack on Titan and thought it was pretty damn bad. enough to make me not even want to try the source material

That's a shame, it really does the manga a disservice imo
Didn't like the anime at all even though I'm a fan of the source material. You should give it a shot.

Girls Go Around 1-9 - This got axed, didn't it. Chapter 10 is the finale apparently. Not sure how much longer it could go without some eye rolling at the plotline maybe but maybe another volume or so could have worked. Ease into the ending, maybe show off a third set of 3 years. Kind of curious how many bigger loops there are and the sheer depths of insanity at work there.

I guess my biggest disa--regret is that the kind of fun subplot won't actually get anywhere unless there's a massive asspull finale. come on first or second girl, take the win.

Oh ok...why not just watch or read the thousands of adult targeted anime/manga that have been around since the 1970s? (Maybe 60s? Dunno much about this era in manga)

People are generally bad with revisiting older stuff. That's another thing Attack on Titan is capitalizing on, the "veneer of the new" combined with the "traditions of the old", like how "retro" games are the thing these days, but you don't actually see people booting up Pacman.

The public generally wants to relive the past without actually reexperiencing it, because we do remember how shitty it was, nostalgia or no.

Apparently. Who knew.

...

Huh, I've had to answer that more times in recent memory than I ever thought I would in my entire life.
