Marathon's 'Endgame' Map "Cryo" only available on weekends

The game is working very well thank you. I already said they shit the bed with the budget but to to say the game is subpar is ill informed.

Yes... You are right 👍

Why would they spread it out? They are jamming stuff as fast as possible to retain player count. Of course the Bungie guy isnt going to outright say it.

The fact his Logistics point made it clear they want as many gamers playing on weekends show it. How many shooter games with objectives modes caps it to weekend play?

You could tell the player count is low. That 500M AI bot kill requirement was ignored. It was scheduled to happen some time next week based on the current trend, but suddenly Cryo is out tomorrow. So one of two things happened. 1. They always had a set schedule of end of March (which they even stated way back) and assumed the player count would be higher so 500M kills would be done by now. Or 2. The 500M was an honest target to wait for gamers to achieve. But they pulled the plug and release cryo tomorrow because it was dragging on. At last count the kill count was only at about 350M-ish doing 20M kills per day. If it happened naturally, cryo wouldnt be released for another week.
I've played 70 hours and not scratched the surface. They Don't need to drag anything out.

The problem is they made a game for the 1%. its very unapologetic and the most hardcore shooter you can get on a console. People who play it love it, the people who don't , don't because reasons.

If you played Halo or Goldeneye back in the day and dunked on your pals this game is for you. If you got dunked on then its not for you , play Crimson Desert or some shit, we all game for different reasons.

Play this game and I will spoil your day, and enjoy it. It's fucking awesome the skill ceiling is off the charts. Single player fannies need not apply.

It could be because they want to get Cryo out ASAP so that people can post their reviews ASAP.

The "unofficial" review score is in the 70s but slowly climbing (72, 74, 76, ...). More reviews might push it into the 80s.

But, with the restrictions that prevent most people from playing Cryo, I'm not sure how positive the new reviews would be.

Please at least lets have a decent conversation. I think there is a person behind the retard.

The game keeps losing players. The only hype on social media is coming from these weirdos who want to make a living as Marathon content creators or from overly enthusiastic media influencers..
and it's only the third week?.

At this rate, they will need to fundamentally change how this game works to find a path for success.

The game seems fairly steady at around 50k + consoles. The game won't die nor will it be a massive hit. If they fundamentally change the game the they are back to square one pre alpha. A game that tries to please everyone pleases no one.

Honestly my first impression stands they spent a ridiculous amount of cash to appease the 1%, luckily I'm the 1%.

Hardcore grinder PVP guy checking in. Enjoy Crimson Desert, if you even play games.

And that's what I said. They will change it anyway, for the reasons I already mentioned

That was not their goal. It's absurd, it's… preposterous

Youve said a few times in your posts.

Not sure why you bring up Crimson Desert in a bad light in a Marathon thread.
I bring up CD because it seems to suffer from the same issues as Marathon. I've not played played it admittedly but the onboarding experience is a main criticism. People seem to be giving that game a pass when you need to give it time to learn the systems but not Marathon.

People seem to hand wave the sub 80 MC for CD but would be quick crucify Marathon for the same. Why is that?

They spent 6 months during the delay to fix numerous stuff in the game including graphics and more recently adding community requests like duos. They'll do more fixes to appease the community.

Just wait when the user base drops enough and then they got no choice but to dump it on sub plans or F2P so as many casuals as possible jump on hoping to buy mtx.

User base has been steady at around 50k + console since launch. Most games would kill for that.

Keep crying into your own sony anti gaas tears

Game will settle on 20-30k ccu on Steam + console more than enough to keep things ticking along, but enjoy watching numbers while we enjoy the best FPS in recent memory.

If it dies it dies and so be it. You call yourself gamers, I call you cunts. Enjoy your own life rather than enjoying at the expense of others. its a big world out there, it will bite you in the ass at some point.

How's people giving it a pass? Reviews for game is in the high 70s and skimming some of them they say that. There's other issues too. But there's also many positive points about the game, so that's why it's not a trashed game.

Maybe gamers playing a complicated onboarding game want to figure it out on their own time playing a SP game then be thrown into matches getting hunted down by AI bots and other players at he same time while messing around with the smallest font UI in gaming history.

Whose handwaving CD? The reviews came out all at once and many were people were like WTF its less than 80.

Action/RPG kinds of games can be rated well and accepted by gamers more due to scope, story, tons of game mechanics etc.... You got beloved Bethesda RPGs which are the glitchiest stuff ever. Even their first ES games Arena and Daggerfall were bug fests. I played them a bit 30 years ago. But people can accept some janky gameplay.

Shooters are different. You want good looking games (Marathon is hit and miss pending if someone likes the art), extraction (niche shooter genre), the worst UI I've seen ever, and when playing a shooter who wants complicated onboarding? It's like Highguard being a multi-phased match they needed to make gamers go through a tutorial to know what to do. Add it up and it's a hard sell. But ARC has no problem selling a ton being extraction vs Marathon, Tarkov and Hunt. So they are doing something right vs the other 3.

Even if ARC and Marathon were the exact same kind of game with same gameplay and UI etc.... ARC would sell more anyway. Why? Just based on the artwork. How many people out there said ARC looks shit? Hardly anyone. How many people say Marathon looks shit? Lots. And it even looked worse last summer during the first beta. Some people probably avoided the game just based off that and never bothered now.

ill respond in the morning but I appreciate the response. Its a discussion worth having.

no way they will change it, its fucking awesome

They will keep it ticking over while they make Destiny 3. Hopefully, if you played aby sort of PVP back in the day then this is awesome. Its just not a main stream product

This is what I'm taking about with the domain of "press button, move character".

From the 20 hours I played in the "open beta", the game felt "awesome" to play… but it was just lackluster. Like, it was not the finished product but rather a vertical slice.

I think the niche talk it's just an excuse. Bungie just failed to make a great game overall. (the core gameplay and mechanics can be great) I'm talking about the whole package.

I think the pressure within Bungie is building up. Clearly this new map was intented to release in different circumstances (more people playing the game) in other words: it's not really meant to acquire players (people buying the game).

Just pray for the game to stop bleeding. That alone would be a massive win. Then Bungie can assess the situation. If it can't stop it… we could see a very different Bungie moving forward; a more panicked and desperate one.

Not sure why youre so mad. If you enjoy the game, then keep playing.

Guess what? On the weekend I'm going to try that Minishoot twin stick game on GP. It's already out on Steam. Right now it has 40 CCU. It's peak is only 1,400. Who cares. I dont care one bit of anyone else doesnt play or has fun ragging on CCU so low you cant even spread it out as 1 CCU gamer per US State.

If you enjoy the game then post in the OT thread. That thread seems free of criticism and CCU counts.

Personally, I think extraction does make a difference. I still havent got around to try it and I got it installed. But if ARC had a TDM or Domination mode I would had already.

But not a be all and end all. If extraction games were so shunned so only the biggest hardcore shooter gamers play it, ARC wouldnt sell 14M copies. It'd be more like 1.4M copies. But whatever they did to get tons of gamers to play that kind of shooter genre worked. Tarkov, Hunt and Marathon (are there any other notable ones?) havent come close even combined. So whatever they are doing hasnt worked. And it's not like ARC is free where it hogged cheap people looking for F2P. It costs money like the others.

Which game is this? 👀 I like twin stick shmups.

That looks tight.

Reminds me of Star of Providence a bit.

$8 though is a steal. May pick it up tomorrow!

I dont think available anymore on XB or Steam, but my fav twin stickers are probably Grid Space Shooter (XBLIG) and Score Rush from the 360 days. If you got a PS, I think Score Rush is still available as a PS4 game (called Score Rush Extended). Biology Battle is another but was on XBLIG, but you can find an abandonware PC version on the net. Other goodies I liked if available are Zombie Estate and Imadeagamewithzombiesinit. All dirt cheapie kinds of games from 15 years ago.

The thing you mentioned about this new map not being able to play it solo...echoes my feeling while paying the open beta (solo).... This game is not tuned to be played that way. (another market segment not addressed). ARC is more forgiving

I wonder if this specific discourse of solo players engaging with this map and random teams will create a lot of frustration and criticism.

The irony with Arc Riders and Marathon its that Arc feels/looks like a " Sony game" it's a mix between The Last us, Fallout and the Horizon IP. .. It has the production values, the expamaivness and ambition that you expect from Play Station. Marathon looks like an indie game.

They must feel very retarded about acquiring Bungie, it has been just a pain in the ass.

For me, I play games lone wolf style 99% of the time. Doesnt matter if it's TDM, Domination, playing solo or partied up with friends. I do my own thing. Only sometimes I go with the gang trying to take over objective points as a team effort. I just plant myself killing people with AR and LMG from distance mowing down any enemies in my lane or running for a capture point. Or the small amount of times I played team BR and we all stick together. Other than that, I'm on my own.

Any game that requires uber teamwork to successfully win a round, I'm out.

Given this content was being pushed as part of what you were buying when you bought the game, they really should have made it clear from the beginning that the full game would only be playable at specific times during the week, ie. if you cannot play at those times you are buying a gimped version of the game

I think people have a right to a refund if this was not made clear before they bought the game.

Who wants a refund?

Not sure if this has been posted yet but maybe add it to the OP none the less MMaRsu MMaRsu

It is as I expected then. It's a balancing thing and I am fine with it tbh. Makes it more of an event (which happens plenty in other games as well). Would like to see some more maps like Perimiter and Dire Marsh though, with their own modifiers or what not but at least a more straight forward zone as well.

You understand this type of behaviour is pushing players away?
You understand how the game works right?

I think it is stupid dropping ranked and Cryo the same weekend. Having both available at all times wouldn't work. Why do you think it would?

This isn't COD.

Arc has a similar flaw. Events are on a fixed rotation which means you can miss them if your timezone doesn't line up. I would prefer contiguous blocks like what marathon is doing (e.g., each map condition persists 24h)

Bad decision, evocative of Destiny garbo like Trials. I'm a bit of a fence-sitter with Marathon, decent chance I'd like it, but am more willing to give my time to Tarkov (which i still haven't played), which is... week two of trying to get BSG's 2FA and/or password reset to work. I shit you not I can log into their website with my password but can't log into the launcher with the exact same credentials, and then it locks me out from trying to log in after 3 'bad' tries. And the reset email shows up days late and no longer valid.

The content creators who I tend to agree with mostly seem to be enjoying Marathon quite a bit but I'll wait for post MUH TWITCH DROPS and post MUH CRYO to really get a feel if it might actually have legs.

It's a niche of a niche. Like i was saying ( sorry bit drunk last night on the way home from vacation) It's a terrible business move. They made a game for a specific sub set of people. It will stay around 20-30k CCU plus consoles long term. Not enough to make the initial investment back but enough to keep the lights on now its up and running. It's a great game but it way too difficult with a massive skill ceiling to be liked by the mainstream. It's a very odd product, but a very good one, if you like this sort of thing.

It's nothing like Arc by the way. The only thing they have in common is they both have an exit in game.

Sounds like a really good way of stretching out really thin end game content. Props to be honest as it will stop the sad fucks that would plow away at it, "complete" everything and then complain that there isn't anything to do. Look like Bungie learnt some lessons from Destiny after all.

Leaked map, it's absolutley gigantic, gonna take a few weekends to even explore most of it

In terms of how big "Marathon" is, here is the map screen, no doubt when more of the marathon raids release we will see it rotate

You can't access 100% of the content whenever you want in Arc Raiders either.

And that game even logs your Discord conversations!

"accidentally"

Defence force ready on page 1 I see.

This kind of thing is pretty shitty imo, reviewers couldn't review until this weekend only shit they pull, it's not even a big thing lol.

Also FUCK YOU to anyone who works weekends this game isn't for you.
