In my mind, Rock seems like a better fit. His promo and in ring style are much more of a match for Hogan. Rock was very theatrical and over the top in the ring. Austin was very grounded and smash mouth. I don't think Hogan could have done much with it. And I don't think the crowd would have turned on Austin like they did Rock. At the same time, there really was never going to be another chance for Austin vs Hogan. Even if the match sucked, it was still a big money match and definitely should have been at a Wrestlemania.

Yeah, I agree with everything you stated. I think the match fit The Rock perfectly. It would have had an entirely different "feel" with Austin.

I think it would have been interesting to have Summer of 2001 Austin against Hogan, but the dynamic still would have been way different since the crowd forcing heel/face turns is what made the match so memorable. 2001 Stunning Stone Cold vs Hollywood wouldn't have made sense to begin with. But I could see him selling Hulking Up similar to the way Rock did at least in that version of Stone Cold.
