Are there seriously people upset over this? I know there are fans who hate Joey with a passion but I haven't seen anyone take the Ironman Title too seriously outside of Brandon Stroud winning it and that's because he's a pervert.
I was asleep while all the pre-Mania stuff happened but I finished off the NOAH show from Yokohama. The classic NOAH overwrought tag and main event conundrum, not sure if either of the matches were strong enough to justify their length and structure. Shiozaki/Nakajima was...fine? Definitely under-delivered. Seeing Nakajima just murder Go at the end was cathartic though. The Sugiara/Kenoh vs Kitamiya/Yone tag made sense, was setup well but just don't have that spark to really bring it to that next level.
Meanwhile the latest AJPW Korakuen was follows the excellent pattern of recent AJPW, having a strong show up and down the card. Ignoring the two six mans (and the GAORA title match, sadly) on the show leaves you with 4 solid to great bouts. The young boy faceoff between Atsushi Maruyama and. Yuma Aoyagi had a nice twist at the end with some nice character work.
Naoya Nomura & Ryouji Sai vs. Jake Lee & SUWAMA was a quick, violent and intense match. I must have completely missed Jake Lee joining Evolution, or at the very least teasing it. Whatever the situation with that storyline, heel/tweener Jake Lee beating up his former NEXtreme teammates is far more compelling than secondary ace good guy Jake Lee. SUWAMA seems to have his groove back and a tag run seems the perfect position for him post injury. His offense and general manner make watching him beat on smaller guys a joy. Naoya Nomura continues to be a young boy with a lot of potential, and if things pan out, a generational feud with the BJW Nomura in his back pocket. While in reality AJPW's roster is really really small, their use of young boys makes it an exciting watch to see where they are going in the future.
KENSO fucking sucks and I hope Uncle Jun can find better challengers for his Dad TV belt. The Jr. title match with Keisuke Ishii and Koji Iwamoto was a blast. AJPW Jr. style isn't as flashy as NJPW or as indie-riffic as NOAH but definitely keeps that hard-hitting style at the core of AJPW and allies it with a faster pace. This is the match where I came around on Ishii, who has a really awful, awful look but by god the man can wrestle. He's quick, smooth and can sell his ass off. Iwamoto is low key one of the most interesting juniors in wrestling, combining his legit Judo background with pro-wrasslin' giving him a unique edge. He hit Ishii with a disgusting looking Judo throw on the apron that really brought this match to the next level. Match finish spoilers herein:
Honestly kind of disappointed Iwamoto didn't win here, the crowd is clearly behind him. Still, Uncle Jun seems to be committed to longer title reigns all around in AJPW, which can only be a good thing going forward imo
The main event was a 6 man preview of the upcoming, stacked Champion Carnival tourny. This was Kento mixing it up with some real big boys, including the true BIG DOG Shuji Ishikawa (probably the best bully type wrestler in the world), Mr. A E S T H E T I C Zeus, Bodyguard who after his heoric Triple Crown challenge may be as over as he is gassed up, the salty old vet Omori and um, KAI. KAI looked like he had just gotten mugged and I felt more sorry for him that usual. He did nearly do a jumping jack on his entrance though. The fucker.
The match itself was very good, as would be expected with the performers involved. Miyahara stole the show before the bell even rang however, walking to the center of the ring and ushering these blow in's (KAI and Shuji) on his team to get the fuck out of HIS ring. I've raved about Miyahara's run for months now but this gradual evolution from the underdog babyface, to the self-assured champion, to the ruthless executioner of Bodygah~ (see avatar) and now to a man who doesn't want filthy outsiders polluting the AJPW ring.
Will Miyahara's growing arrogance be his downfall post-CC? Or will it just embolden him to dispatch yet more challengers to his title? Honestly, I'd be comfortable with him holding the belt for a very long time, even as he breaks the 400 day mark on his current reign. Whoever does topple Kento will certainly have to be a well chosen, well built up and capable wrestler to end this man's company saving title run.
Itami wrestled Drew Gulak at Axxess last night. Seemed like an all cruiserweight show. I'm thinking he's the next challenger for The cruiserweight title.
Went to bed before the last two matches, but caught them this morning. Joey Janela's Spring Break is the most fun wrestling show I've watched in a long time. It was surreal, hilarious, and honestly a solid show in-ring. Not to mention some of the best commentary I've ever heard. I couldn't stop laughing, what an awesome show.
Joey Ryan joined Lucha Underground around the time I gave up on it. He looked out of place but wasn't bad.
Sure, all I know about DDT I learned via GIFs and a documentary about Kenny Omega I watched on youtube, but I didn't expect the fans to react to him like that.
Is it fair to say almost every company in wrestling this year so far has had at least one great show? I've been comparing what I've seen so far to what I will see this month and realised I've been spoiled for choice all over the place.
They have to do something there and the like a guard of honour down the entranceway or something. Can't end the show with Roman being booed or an old man walking away from the ring on his own to applause.

Yeah, there's a video of him saying he's doing bad and wasn't able to workout and stuff. I don't think it's going to cause any real problem though, and his voice is temporarily less annoying.

We can report that Samoa Joe The Destroyer on Monday night coughed several times in Rollins' direction under the order of Triple H in a further attempt to make the man more unprepared for their Wrestlemania match.
