Backward Compatible Auto HDR and FPS Boost Settings

In February, Team Xbox announced backward compatible games were getting even better with FPS Boost. Choice is incredibly important when it comes to choosing how you play your favorite games. So this March, we’re rolling out our new toggles for both FPS Boost and Auto HDR.

In your game’s manage settings, you can choose your compatibility options and toggle on or off Auto HDR and FPS Boost. Once you restart the game, your selections will be applied – you can verify it by pressing the Xbox button and checking the indicators under the clock. Not every game will support these features, so the compatibility options may not be available for your game.

Good update, but makes me wonder if they are just testing for AutoHDR to be completely broken or somewhat working before deciding whether it can support it in the game or not rather than more extensive per game testing to see if it actually looks good or if it brings artifacts. I think this will be left up to fans to organise such a database. Still, better than not having the option or having the feature turned on without being able to turn it off.

It's the problem of having an system wide feature, you can't test 100% of the scenarios especially regarding a subjective taste

I would have suggest that there could be a solution based off one of the updates that they are introducing to Edge.

If enough users block a notification request, Edge will stop showing it.

Sure, but there is subjective and there are artefacts that a game QA should spot. If this is not about saving money on BC testing post launch and they still test the games to have defaults be the optimal ones I am happy.

I am not keen on the PC like thinking (assuming worst case for a second) of “well, the game does not crash, here are the checkboxes... play with them and see if you like what they do”. Console experience for me has to be more curated from the vendor side, default settings must be the optimal settings.

Yeah, sadly Microsoft doesn't want to pay for a team of employees to properly QA games, I haven't done the maths to see how much it would cost. It also still might lead to some weird things getting through. It also would be an short term employment for stuff like this.

Think cyberpunk has shown the QA teams on both consoles needs to get better/bigger and push back more on publishers.

Are great, opt out for auto HDR. Didn't play many games where this was a problem, but at least I can now opt out on a per game basis.

But I would prefer a complete "HDR" switch for every game. E.g. HDR in AC Valhalla doesn't look so great, but the only way to shut it off is to disable HDR for the whole console.

Since the update I've gone from OPEN NAT to MODERATE NAT, I have a wired connection, static IP for the console and in my router, all ports are open, I've added all the ports required.

After you update and if you're getting slower download speeds on a wired connection then check your NAT type.

This is very annoying. I've done a FULL SHUTDOWN and it showed up as OPEN then when I tested it went MODERATE, then OPEN AGAIN... WTF.

EDIT: I had to reboot my ROUTER, do a FULL SHUTDOWN on my Series X, now finally it seems to stay OPEN.

Yeah I've gone through he HDR calibration. Spent the whole afternoon poking around the systems settings and getting used to the Xbox interface.
Love the fact I'm able to download my screen shots from the console straight to my phone.
With PS4 I have to share to Twitter and then download it off Twitter on my phone. Appreciate these little details on Xbox.
