Microsoft rolls out Windows 24H2 update

I've been running 24/H2 for a few months.

I'm having SFC report corrupt windows webview files, it says it repairs them but in reality it dosent.

It's that the bug others are having ?

I still have the xbox controller bug, where you get a error message box on shutdown if you have a xbox controller connected.

Star Wars Outlaws is a crash fest for me and many others, but a new update today might fix that.

It's an operating system update. Without trying to sound like a knob because its not my intention, do you normally update Windows or not?

I don't understand this reply.
The operating system update you mentioned specifically targets AMD cpu and fixes regression.

So I just wondered if it affects older cpus like zen 3 or just new ones.

The release preview channel is at 26100.1882 but 24H2 is 1742.. :pie_thinking:

Does that mean i still cant unenroll from the insider builds?

Microsoft is a bit busy now, as they just released another broken update for Windows 23H2, that is causing lot's crashes. MS is doing a rollback, but a lot of people are affected.
The update is an optional one for Windows 23H2 with the number KB5043145. So if you see it on the Windows update, avoid it like the plague.
It’s generally a good policy with MS updates to delay install for at least couple of weeks unless there is a major security exploit that’s going on.

And with the new yearly “Service Pack” versions I would say delay couple of months, lol.

My apologies - I assumed it was just the usual Windows annual update and didn't specifically target certain processors.

Still not available for me via windows update. I can't remember them rolling anything out this slowly before.
I'll just continue to wait rather than messing with my registry or anything...

Interestingly, if I install this update my HP Reverb G2 VR headset will be worthless for anything but as a paperweight..

This is because Windows Mixed Reality is completely removed in 24H2. Not even Steam VR will work. Pretty brutal stuff.. But I have a brand new headset on its way so I'll be fine, lol.

updated from 22h2 and so far its been pretty stable. Only one thing but Night lights been a bit wonky as in it sometimes doesnt come back on when waking up my monitor from sleep. Other than that its been good. Will report back if any other problems crop up.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Can I turn all the AI shit off? I'm really less concerned with what these updates add and more concerned about what they break.

Update went mostly smoothly but I've had weird issues with Nvidia drivers so I had to use Driver Cleaner for the first time in like 15 years lol

Also for some reason 24H2 has broken the vsync in FFXIV, and only that game. I can still force it through NVCP but the in-game vsync's frametime is all over the place. It's really bizarre. I'm sure no one else here has this issue but I'm posting it for posterity in case anyone googles it

Does it fix the problems they caused with the September update? I had to do a Windows reinstall because the September update cooked my ability to use 'Restart'. It would just shutdown, not come back on and I would have to wait a few minutes to turn it back on (for whatever reason) because any attempt to power on my PC was met with the power light blinking and the fans blasting for two seconds before abruptly stopping.

easy method to trigger the update

Isn't it much easier just to start the windows 11 installer from Microsofts Website instead of changing stuff in the registry?

This gets you to 24/H2 since day one it released officially.
