Firehopping seems to not have been removed but indeed just nerfed super fucking hard.

I don't know... it looks to me like they took a slightly better line on the firehopping runs.

They really should have done more than one test for each one. No one is 100% consistent.

Yeah, that's why I tried to avoid language like "Firehopping has been removed" because I'm not super sure and it's mostly eyeballing.

A better test would be to use Mushrooms Only because then you can get much more consistency by, say, shroom at Royal Raceway's finish line.
