Well, when you control over 40% of the existing market and gaining, and the first issue of your rival's big summer event can't even beat the second issue of YOUR big summer event, you apparently stay the course.

Marvel's announcement of day-and-date digital comics incoming in 3... 2... 1...

Surprised retailers ordered so less of Flashpoint #1. To be fair to them retailers seemed to sell out the first issue. Maybe subsequent issues will be ordered more. I am primarily Marvel guy, but with all the new number ones from DC, there is no way they retain their market share in September.

Love the Punisher max Cover

Wow Marvel is doing that much better than DC?

And yeah day and date digital would be cool. Marvel has to do it as well right?

Due credit to Marvel: all of those comics sound pretty damn good. Especially the Fear Itself and Spider-Island stuff. Spider-JJ is too funny.

Issue #9, I believe. That's when they
recruit Dark Beast and head thru a gateway into Age of Apocalypse
and it gets interesting.

So is Monkey King the guy that was in that one promo where he was in the shadows and there were all those trophies from notable heroes and villains?

Also: Didn't Wolverine die in *ugh* Ultimatum?

I'm not sure which is more ridiculous: Wolverine without the eye lenses or Iceman with a sideways hat.

Some people are not good at the "unusually realistic portrayal" thing, and need to realize it. Leave that shit to guys like Travis Charest.

I didn't name Alex Ross in my counter-example because his Wolverines suck too.

Also, Scumbag Steve Iceman has a camel toe.

Yep, but he had a secret son.

Marvel has an incredibly solid lineup coming up...crap.

I'm really looking forward to Rucka's Punisher, that's going to be so, good.

and Neal Adam's penciling 16.1 for New Avengers, lol...guess he is taking an extended break from Batman Odyssey still.

Ultimate Spidey for sure because I have to know. Ultimate X-Men, I'll check out for the chances of seeing great chemistry with the new team. Then Fear itself..maaybe new avengers too because of Iron Fist. Monkey King? I keep thinking about the original novel I read. Handsome was definitely not one of the words used to describe him.

Colossus+ Juggernaut looks awesome and sounds like it'll be a fun book. I think I may also have to acquire a poster of the Spectacular Spider JJJ.

Also glad to see New Avengers looks like it will keep on being the best Marvel book. :D

On an unrelated note, I read Secret Invasion for the first time this weekend, and good god the writing of the book sucked.

The storyline itself could have been really great if the storytelling AND the dialogue wouldn't suck balls.

Is this a general feeling toward the book? Are Siege or Dark Reign any better?

I liked Secret Invasion personally, but I also can cut through some of the bullshit in there and just hung on for the ride.

Dark Reign is an all across the universe thing so it's not really an "event" persey, but find the characters you like and their Dark Reign labelled stories and you should have a good time.

Seige was just a crazy freaking ride. Worth the $20 bucks for the paper back (or whatever they're charging on amazon for it).

Do all these different titles actually sell? It seems like WAY too much for casual people to keep track of, and a lot of these characters are of questionable coolness (ie. Monkey King).

I only care about X-Men and Marvel crossover events (like Civil War, Secret Invasion, etc) personally. I think making ever more and more titles of these side minor characters only turns off casual readers because it makes comicbooks seem overwhelming.

Also, events need to always be collected into books with the whole story so you don't have to find 30 issues of comics with obscure title characters to fill in the story.

If marvel owns 40% of the market share it's obvious they do. They've always been about buying what you want because most stories are self contained enough to rely on just the main book.

you almost never have to go outside the main event book in most cases. the only current one that wasn't that way was X-Men second coming, but they did a pretty good job of making sure people knew what to buy and when it was coming out.

Sort of, lot of the big events have lot of major going ons in so many books that it's a pain to follow. Dark Reign was a massive clusterfuck to follow, and Civil War had so many tie in books beyond the main Civil War book.

One of the good things Joe Q did was to axe a ton of redundant books. Each book had a certain angle and purpose. I think we've muddied the water a bit since then but I think theres enough variety to appeal to all sub groups of comic readership.

It'd be interesting to see the breakdown of what % sales come from which comic titles. I bet the various X-Men, Spider-Man and Avengers titles make up like 90% of it.

Yep for now. Starting this week, actually. Alpha Flight #1 just came out. It is only an eight issue run though.

So did they get over the whole dead thing? Musta been a heck of a hangover.

Dark Reign though was really just centered around the Dark Avengers and whoever you really were following. I mean yeah you could theoretically go out and find every book that had the DR title and feel more in the moment with the "Event", but I don't think in the end it's ultimately necessary to get to that point to have the entire DR story.

Civil War was just a clusterfuck in of itself. Personally when it comes to these huge events like Cvil War/Seige/Fear Itself, I'm choosing to only follow the Main Book, Home Front and whatever side story I want (this time it looks to be only Deadpool's mini). Like I said, you don't need to buy every book with Fear Itself on it, but you could if you really wanted to. I know Deadpool's story isn't going to have much bearing on the main book and vice/versa.

Thats the thing, there really was no main book in the Dark Reign, as it was mixed up in multiple titles and there was no Dark Reign main book to go ahold with it like the other events have had. Dark Avengers was major yes, but so was New Avengers, and then they crossed over several stories into these books.

If Marvel does day-and-date online, will that mean that just the monthly subscription to MDCU will get me every comic they make? Or will the digital copies be sold on a per-issue basis, and still held back from the online archive for a year or so?

My brain says the latter, but I can dream, right?

nah, in the case of DR, I read New Avengers/Dark Avengers/and whoever I was following at the time. Like you said, the event was all over the place, but you got the core story and feeling from just DA. I never felt out of the loop because I didn't know what Black Panther was up to.

i don't think X-force is going anywhere. Remender has issues mapped out for the foreseeable future and it sells well. The roster might change though.
