I think I've settled on Wesker/Dormammu for part of my team, but the third is still up in the air. I love Dante's jam session assist but I'm not good enough with him to do much once he comes out. He doesn't have much life and I seem to die very quickly. Super Skrull's assist is a little underwhelming (orbital grudge) but it can kinda of fill the same role as Dante's for a combo extender when Wesker is out, and he's probably my 3rd best character when he's in. I was thinking about Ironman for an assist that might actually help Dormammu, but I've barely touched him yet.

Making teams is fun, but making them work in a match is something else entirely. D:

I don't entirely subscribe to the idea of "cheap wins", but I agree there are a lot of people who manage to take the fun out of playing with their tactics. Projectile spammers in particular grate on my nerves, though when I get frustrated it's usually because I know I'm not good enough (yet) to punish stuff like that. Played against a dude a bit earlier who pretty much gave me the NerdJosh treatmeant and relied on Arthur's arrows exclusively while forcing me to chase him all around the damn screen. I managed to get in and kill him using Wesker's teleports and projectile counter, but I wasn't enjoying myself the entire match. Not even after I won.

I still love this game to death, though. :)

right now any encounter with dante, sentinel or akuma is taking the fun out inducing, seems like i have absolutely no time to switch out and/or like my defense doesn't work online at all.

People exclaiming this game isn't casual friendly are seriously out of their minds. If you feel the game isn't casual friendly it's because you're not taking a casual approach to the game.

This game is super-casual friendly.

I might be switching to team Bitch Slap (Chun-Li, Hsien-Ko,She-Hulk ) and taking Sentinel out of the rotation for this very reason. It's not much fun winning or losing devoid of skill.

i am a very experienced street fighter player. MVC3 is my first Marvel vs game, and I had a hard time picking it up.

I don't think being good at Street Fighter lends itself to being at a better starting position in this game. The mechanics are way too different.

The only advantage you'd have is with the input motions.

Yep. Is it casual friendly in the sense that someone that plays once a month can beat a tournament player? Of course not, that'd be a pretty godawful game. Is it casual friendly in the sense that you can pick it up, hit some buttons and make something cool happen even though you don't know what you're doing? Sure is.

how

"how"

As mannerbot just posted, it's very easy for someone to just start the game, press some buttons and have some shit happen.

Every character more or less has the same basic combo which requires very little precision and not all that much dexterity either.

I really like Arthur as a character and how he looks in this game, plus I dig how he can throw out like a billion different kinds of things. But actually playing as him and winning against someone who can't get past the projectiles makes me feel bad so I don't play as him. I think it's because it feels like tossing out those projectiles is easier to do than getting past them for lousy players like myself.

Same here. I love Arthur as a character and they nail his gameplay style in this game. It just so happens he throws a ton of crap in GnG games, and doesn't fight hand-to-hand. :/ I think they still could have made him less spam-friendly.

How not?

The game is very low-level execution oriented in terms of actions. It's very easy to get satisfying results against a player of your own skill level by just pressing various buttons. Hell, there's one button dedicated to bringing your entire team on screen and executing their Hypers simultaneously for HUGE damage. How is that not casual friendly? It's easy to do and it's primally stimulating.

so you guys are telling me to mash buttons. let me tell you, i played so much street fighter, one thing you will never see me do is button mashing. its not in my blood.

No one is implying how you should play the game. What the hell are you talking about? Now you're just going off on strawman tangents.

No, we're telling you that if you do so, some neat things will happen on the screen that will probably impress people seeing the game for the first time. If you're saying that you're too much of a battle-tempered warrior to do so, then why would you care how casual friendly a game is?

I guess people were just hoping for a game they could master in a day like tic-tac-toe, when it turns out it's just another "a minute to learn, lifetime to master" game that they're unwilling to put in the practice to get good at.

Why are people saying don't go online, you need to be good to play online, blah, blah, blah? It's really not a big deal. Add a bunch of people from GAF to your friends list and play with them. Or play with randoms, and don't take losing so serious. You will lose, and you will win. Either way it's fun, but it is definitely more fun playing with someone from here or a friend. MvC3 will hopefully have the longevity that 2 did, so you have time to get good if that's your goal!

I've been playing sf since 1988 and I mashed buttons to beat Galactus. Sometimes it's fun to just mash buttons!

I can't imagine how a people with less to none street fighter experience could play this game and not get frustrated.

PS: you will never beat the game if you just mashing the buttons
OK, the above quote is complete nonsense. MvC3 is waaaaaay easier than SSFIV. As someone who could barely do half the stuff in SSFIV, I was concerned going into MvC3 that I'd have to be a hardcore player with mad skills to enjoy it, but nope, it's very easy to just intuitively roll the sticks/buttons in the general direction/manner you want to attack and produce results -- amazing, flashy, FUN results -- that hit/juggle the target in the direction/manner you intended. It just feels right and flows from within; I crush Arcade and have won a number of online matches and again, complete casual here who didn't fare well in SSFIV but am LOVING MvC3.

It's snappy, responsive, and feels a lot more flexible in terms of timing and input than SSFIV, a game which I enjoyed but found far harder and more technical by comparison. Plus, being able to take three characters with you into battle -- and call any one at any time to help you out of a tight bind -- means you're not putting all your eggs in one basket and you have more options when faced with a "Sagat." And there are so many characters and combinations to try... It's amazing.

Bottom line: MvC3 is like Smash Bros, just with more tactical options at your disposal. Take the word of my brothers and I, all casuals through and through: Get MvC3, love MvC3. It's rich and rewarding and easy to play, deep to master.

EDIT: Basically, take any character in Training mode and try rolling a quarter-circle forward or backward while hitting one attack button... Then try it with the second attack button... And the third... Potentially six flashy attacks right there, effortless to pull off. Try pushing forward and hitting an attack button... Or pushing back and an attack button. Try holding back and holding Heavy, like Skrull's wind-up punch that launches foes clear across the screen. It's Smash Bros. simple in terms of input, and I'm NOT using Simple Mode... My point is that the combos are so much more basic than SSFIV. Nothing in the Command List looks remotely like, say, Vega and Guile's Ultra Combos from SSFIV. Everything in MvC3 is so, so, so much simpler. It's great. :)

EDIT TWO: Also... All those flashy Hyper Combos you see in videos? Nearly all of them are simply a hadoken but holding two buttons instead of one. In other words, roll the analog stick a quarter-circle forward or backward while holding two attack buttons, and BAM. Camera zoom-in, blue background, and flashy shit flying everywhere. So simple, so fun. Whereas the Ultra Combos in SSFIV nearly broke my fingers by comparison.

EDIT THREE: I freaking love this game, why am I working on a weekend.

man, everyone who plays this game is fucking pro at it.

thank god i play haggar. 15 game winning spree LOLOLOLOL DAT PIPE IN YOUR FACE BITCH thank god i have no self-respect

btw did capcom fix their "failed to join session" shit? instead of giving me that error, it just..*gasp* keeps looking !!

Anyone up for some games on the 360? I can string a few basic combos together, but I'm not that great.

Edit: My tag is FloralCat (yay random name generator).

Added you Nert. Will look for you next time I'm on.

Sorry Doom. I think if you give it a day off, you'll get those trophies in no time. Like when you can't beat a boss, and then just stop playing, then the next day beat him on the first try. Yeah

No it's still shit. Kept kicking me back to the main menu until I just went to arcade and turned on allow challengers.

So guys, it's official:

BEST THEMES:

1) Chris
2) Trish
3) Hsien-Ko
4) Taskmaster
5) Sentinel
6) Morrigan

Honorable mentions: Tron Bonne, Haggar.

I love all the themes, though. Wesker's Wind of Madness remix is nice. But Chris' theme outclasses them all. Everyone, use Chris as your point character if you play me so I can hear his theme. ;)

Speaking of which, is Chris' theme a remix of anything? Or Trish's, for that matter?

The BB/GG in my blood keeps bringing me back to Dorm/Wesk/X-23...

It wish it'd stop.

I was told Trish's was a remix and that Chris' is original.

No Thor or Spidey. List is invalid. :P

Sent you both Friend requests.

On the case if this game is casual friendly.. yes but only if you play against friends or the cpu. My friend never played MvC3 before and did great in arcade mode just mashing buttons.

I'm working my way through Arcade with every character, dealing the landing blow against Galactus with each to unlock each character's 3D model. It's a good carrot to lure me into experimenting with each character (I loved the trophies in Smash Bros).

So far, I think my fave characters to play are Felicia, Trish, Hsien-Ko, Chun-Li, Haggar, Dr. Doom, Super-Skrull, Tron Bonne, Zero, Chris, Wesker, Wolverine, Taskmaster, X-23, Sentinel... I also love blocking/analyzing with MODOK and spamming daggers/lances and doing assist-covered keepaways with Arthur... Akuma is a beast. I've barely used Iron Man but I recall him beasting as well. Jeez, that's like half the roster right there. Oh, and Dante and Deadpool are killer when I'm in the zone.

Damn, everyone's good. All charming too -- even Spencer, bland at first, is growing on me as a personality. How will I ever figure out a team when I can only pick three?? I'm going to have to write all their names on a wall and throw darts and whoever's name I hit is the one I'll explore in-depth first. XD

Does anybody have a link to the audio or video of the announcer saying "i'm gonna take you on a wild ride!"? Could really use it right now
