I've probably used him in about 130 of my ~180 matches played on PSN, yet still haven't seen another one. I don't know why. Joe is awesome as hell.

He's pretty good. He's on the short list for additional characters I want to check out besides my main four (Dante/Dormammu/Akuma/Morrigan).

[That list is: Joe, Amaterasu, Chun, Wesker, and maybe a couple more to round it out.]

Online mode in this game is trash imo. Lag kills any kind of combo I try to set up.

I've noticed that in lobby games especially in the PSN chat room but haven't had much of a problem with player matches and ranked. It could also very well be that I suck compared to the GAFers populating chat though! ;)

How about focusing on the ones you like.
Well you first have to try every character to know who you like.

I've been playing this for the past week, and I'm really surprised at how comfortable playing with a PS3 pad is. For me, playing every other Vs. title on anything other than a stick (aside from TvC, where I used the CCPro) always seemed to get my thumbs sore after a while.

GG's to Chaotix and RS4 for laying it in on me.

Anyone up for some games? I still need more abuse before heading back to the training room it seems.

Well, SSF4 had Zero lag for me. And now this game has a second of input lag. ???

That's weird. I didn't have lag in SSF4 and I don't have it in MvC3... is it consistent over many matches with different people?

Yeah. Probably because in SSF4 I could choose to fight someone with a good connection every time. Here I don't know. So I could just be getting terrible luck of the draw every time, but 10 laggy matches in a row must mean something isn't quite right in the netcode...

Yeah not being able to see connection speed is fucking bullshit. How could they include a lag simulation option with bars and all, and then not have actual bars in the online play? It's mindblowing.

Flash's She-Hulk is the real deal.

Bah can't watch at work. I wanna see the grab setups (though being able to do it online with my lag is not going to happen)

What's also weird is my matches I have don't seem to have the same lag as the simulated. 3 bars simulated is worse than what i get in real matches, and 4 is better than what i get.

I still have not seen anyone use VJ in online ranked. :3

And my guide is stuck in PA. :|
Joe is my point man in my Joe/Wesker/Trish(or Capmerica) team. His VA is so awesome. Hearing him squeak "MACH SPE~~ED!" gets me every time. I've run into a few other Joes, too.

Of course, as predicted, the most used character I've come across is by faaaaaar Dante. Dante all day.

Well, X23 is out and it's now Trish or Ammy..again. Ammy's DHC is, as said, awesome, Cold Star is great too. Trish's traps are the best, her assist helps me set up for great combos with Taskmaster when people run over 'em. Geeze...

I've seen far more Sentinels than I have Dante.

Fuck Dante.

Dude has a bunch of options which makes it hard for my scrub brain to understand and shit goes even crazier than normal.

so yeah Fuck Dante

oh god. Wesker + dat pipe is so good. Also I've been abusing hsien-ko's super armored assist. It destroys sentinal for free.

Ya her assist is nuts. She's saved my ass from being comboed to death so many times.

Really? Maybe I should try switching Morrigan out for Hsien-Ko... :-k

I *had* planned on Dante|Hsien-Ko|xxxx...

Where can I find the currently accepted tier breakdown of the characters? I'm interested where the following characters factor into it:

Wolverine
Dante
Morrigan
Iron Man
Deadpool
Spider-Man
Zero
Trish

Wolverine - Very good rushdown, extremely quick 4-way mixups when paired with an assist
Dante - very well rounded character that can do a lot of damage and look fancy doing it
Morrigan - great meter assist, powerful zoning game with multiple fireballs, mirror hyper is amazing
Iron Man - very fast character that can rush in and keep away, great high/low game but limited combos
Deadpool - monster zoning character with great combo potential
Spider-Man
Zero
Trish - best character since shuma

It's arguably the best assist in the game. Only trouble is getting the super armor off, and hoping your opponent isn't wise enough to snap her back in. Also she's a pretty low health character, so she can get beat up pretty good when she comes in.

Playing online ranked matches, Ive had this happen a few times where my opponent ends up juggling my guy into a almost infinite combo. Once these start, is there any way to break the combo?

I feel like an idiot for not thinking about the potential of that armor super till yesterday looking at Shoryuken lol. SHE"S ON MY TEAM for Christ's sake.

Dante is why I no longer allow myself to feel guilty using Sentinel as the third branch of Team China ;)

No, just pray he drops it.

Actually, I think Felicia's hyper helper can stop combos, but that's the only other thing I can think of. This game doesn't have Mega Crash like TvC.

Ya, you do the super then switch her out. Now all her assists have that armor, no time limit. The time on the super only runs when she is the active fighter.

She plows through everything, doesn't give a fuck.

No, you have a valid point. But if you think getting hate mail over XBL for being "cheap" is bad, imagine dealing with that kind of thing at an arcade with IRL scrubs. You're probably right, but it's pretty hard for me to blame him for the tone he uses all things considered.
That's the thing - I don't think that getting hate mail over XBL is that bad. It's just a way for the guy at the other end to vent his frustrations. Probably makes him feel better if he didn't like the way I play, or if he thought I got away with a "cheap" win.

That's why if I'm gonna play with people online, I like the idea of headsets. While it'll never be as fun as playing people in the same room, you do have an outlet for your issues, and can laugh/smacktalk/learn it up.

But yeah, this isn't really about the hate mail. Seth has a tough job, and I wouldn't be able to deal with the shiz he deals with, so kudos to him. It just bothers me sometimes how elitist and snobby the fighting game community is (or pretty much any gaming community). If someone is above my level; they're cheap and dishonourable. If someone is below my level, they're a scrub. Sure, usually it gives us a good laugh, but sometimes I wonder if it'll ever mature.

Is there any benefit to DT Dante and switching him out -- does it make his assists other than Jam Session any better?

I find hate mail entertaining as hell: I consider my hate mail to be a form of flattery and always try to pen a cheerful missive in reply. The cheerfulness of my replies tends to lead to still more hate mail and confusion thus extending the fun. That said I never get much hate mail on PSN but it's always fun to hop on when I have a free trial of XBL.

I always had the sense this is partly due to how small, niche, the FG community was becoming for ten years. A very tiny pond for dudes to swim around in and look for ways to act like big fish. At the same time, you gotta compare the average dude who has the attitude you describe, to the "pro" players - the real pros.

It has been my impression that 90% of the guys who would actually show up at big events such as Evo are far cooler cucumbers than Johnny Akuma Avatar who trawls the SRK forums all day. And in fact, most of the guys who sit at home and whine about stuff online wouldn't even have the guts to actually walk into Evo hall. (Or if they did, they'd mysteriously be like squeaky little mice, sitting in the corner with their limp joysticks in their laps, ha ha.)

Just look at a lot of the drama this sort of person is stirring up over MvC3 right now because it's the hot topic; tons of me-too bros are coming out of the woodworks to trash the game, while simultaneously revealing they don't really know much about playing Marvel at all and are just trying to make comments that fit in with what they perceive as the cool jocks crowd. (The reveal of the Akuma infinite spawned a rash of guys on several sites laughing at how "Capcom can't make fighting games anymore" because MvC2 didn't have any infinites so its the better game.)

I rep that Joe/XX/Wesker in ranked
I've only played a few times but thank god my wins > losses by a longshot.

I still need a lot of practice. I wish Red Hot Kick still OTG'd, but Wesker's OTG assist makes up for it, I guess..

Eh, I just might put Spencer back in that team or swap with Taskmaster...

I've been playing with skrull, haggar, sentinel. I like ammy, with her whip weapon and ice projectiles, but sentinel adds so much that it's hard to justify bringing her.

Any tips? I'm really terrible at this game. Just lost to a team in arcade mode on normal difficulty. Although I went 3-0 against some guy online too (with sentinel and pipe spamming).
