Also the corniest version of Dante. Give me the laid back Dante of DMC1 any day.

Well it makes sense he'd be a little more laid back as he got older. :P

DMC4 Dante was pretty cool too, I just wasn't a fan of the chaps.

But I do LOVE on-the-fly style-switching though.

Everyone is Yipes, you always feel like you're one combo away from winning (and you always are). It feels good to do massively damaging combos and to make huge comebacks, both of which are extremely present in this game.

The question is, do you think that those things have become less special now that they are more common?

Maybe you like winning?

Yeah, I think that's it.

He went right back to being a cornball in DMC4.

Oh well, any of this is better than Meth Dante. God dammit, now I'm depressed. :(

Whoever is niu-niu(nui-nui, I can't remember) online: Good fucking games. I'm still really, really, really having a hard time adjusting to this game after playing MvC2 daily. I promise I'll give you even better matches in the near future.

Also, while playing tonight I realized I really hate one thing about this game. When you lose a character, you can ONLY call out the other characters assist with one of your assist buttons. In MvC2, if one character died, either assist button would then call out your last remaining character. I swear tonight I kept pressing an empty assist for nothing, and dying as a result. Damn habits.

Good games though... More people add me, I feel like I am going to become as obsessed with this game as I was with MvC2.

Good to see Spencer being viable.

There was some disheartening talk pre-release/early about him, I'm glad to see he's looking good.

Question for people who use him: How do I effectively use the Zip Line and the H followup for Get Over Here?

Those just seem to get myself hit more often than not.

Yeah, that still bugs me. It's gonna take a while for me to get used to.

I am never again going to let you go into Dark Phoenix. /salt
Yeah, I think my team for now is gonna be Trish/Wesker/Phoenix until I figure out Dormammu.

Phoenix is so amazing. I get new ideas for her and Trish all the time.

I told you Spencer was boss! His damage and crossups are huge!
So many people eat it versus the bionic arm anytime they attempt to go big or chip. I love him soo much.

Am I the only person in the world that has no problem dealing with Phoenix players?

I mean, I use her too, so maybe the 'mystique' just doesnt psyche me out. But she is SO fucking weak that it's usually pretty easy to destroy her with a hyper chain, whether she's in Dark Phoenix mode or not.

I have a lot more problem against Thor players for some reason.

I don't think the mystique is the problem. She's straight up a solid character. A lot of people will just snap her in asap, though.

So the people you guys are playing just keep her out of the match entirely until they fill up 5 bars, then let her die?

I'm the one using Phoenix. I usually air tag her in at 3 bars and protect her with assists. I have no intention of dying as normal Phoenix or using my point characters as batteries.

A scrubby phoenix is easy. Her zoning game is godlike. When she is chilling at the top of the screen throwing homing fireballs and teleporting behind your ass its no fun.

Dark phoenix and healing shield are just the icing on the proverbial ownage cake.

I'm niu-niu. GGs I'm sure you'll be a beast in this game once you've had enough time with it. I couldn't get into MVC2 cause I could never pull off infinites (only infinite in VS series I can pull off is ryu's forward mk, mp on ver 1 of xmen vs sf, and even then I drop it all the time)

So I'm sure once they find the stuff that needs all that finger dexterity I'll get owned by everyone again :(

Interesting. I'll try that. I've just been treating her as a normal character usually, never trying to get her killed for Dark Phoenix or anything. She has a ton of great combos that deal solid damage, and her TK-overdrive assist can actually combo into some juggles too.

Did you see that smart ass stuff on the stream?????

Xfactor cancel a move during an opponents counter super startup.

I off her pretty quick dark or no. The problem is people think of running on her if she's out there and if you don't punk out you don't get trapped. She is insane on all of her offense and chip power so why run unless she is reaaaaaaally low and you are really not putting it together.

Thor will whoop your ass though. He's a heavy hitter with range, flight, grabs, and lots of health and invincibility frames on moves. He is scary when someone puts his moves together. I either put him in the air or cross him up. Keep away doesn't work against the spark and teleport gets eaten by his grabs and tornado. She Hulk is great on him though. Lots of bouncing around tends to throw off Thor's combo set ups and she's pretty good at using that clothesline as a focus attack to set him up for big hurt.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if those "event #1-40" are for the future DLC spots. Like beat the game with x (Jill, Shuma), beat the game on very hard with x (Jill, Shuma), complete 5 trials with x (Jill, Shuma), complete all trials with x (Jill, Shuma), select x 30 times (Jill, Shuma).

If that's the case, there'd be 5 titles per character. That'd mean they're slotted for 8 DLC, with Jill and Shuma included.

Can anybody direct me to videos of people using Phoenix 'properly'?

She's one of the characters I've been rotating into my set-ups, but never really felt like I was getting the most out of.

I'm a long-time VF5 player, so I'm not used to making use of characters that can run long-range game. :D

You seemed to have the really decent B&B combos learned pretty damn well. I couldn't pull of shit... I really think I'm playing the game too fast, or something. I'm so used to MvC2 where you could pretty much just mash out your magic series as quickly as you wanted, but in this game you really have to have a certain rhthym for each character. With Magneto, since I haven't really learned shit with him yet, my magic series is usually just A>A>B>C>S after the launch then super once I hit the ground. It's so basic though, and you have to input your attacks with him so. fucking. slowly. now. This game is still crack.

Your taskmaster is nice, though. I love the combo you kept doing where you would use his spidey swing, while Sentinels assist hit, and then finish with his super. That hurt. He is one character I really would like to put some time into. We'll for sure play some more soon, I want to level up my game pretty badly!

I wish they had not rechosen their team. She Hulk is great.

Sad that last guy didn't put it together with Spencer though. That webswing could be knocked out with armor piercer from some of the distances Task first used it from. Later on he was way too close to bust through it. Plus I don't recall a whole helluva lot of "get over here" attempts on him. That mightve helped a lot, but I gotta admit...Task shuts down the ziplining with the arrows and webswing pretty good.

Maybe some Jaw Breaker attempts set up via assists meant to force blocking from task would help out. I get a lot of these setups because I wall people in with Sentinel's missiles.

The thing is, people use Phoenix like a crutch. Wait till five bars, save x-factor, whatever. They fight with two 2-man teams, and I don't think that's the right way to approach her. If I'm fighting a character that I think I could beat with Phoenix more easily than my point character, say I'm using Dormammu vs Dante, I might decide to tag in Phoenix with no meter then tag her back out. Or, if I have the chance to punish an assist, I'll burn the meter early in the fight. When people see you have Phoenix, they tend to fight you with the idea that you're going to keep her and your meter locked away. Don't, but be smart about how you use her at the same time. Be careful about throwing out fireballs into teleports, it's a shenanigan, and there's a lot of characters with invincible moves.

Again, I'm still learning.

Oh man, I love this game so very much. Unfortunately my Xbox Live sub ran out and I can't play online ><

But this gives me time to mod my SE SFIV fightstick. Bought a set of Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons and Seimitsu LS-56-01 stick, with a bubble top :P

And I made this faceplate to replace the original.

Joystick faceplate

GONNA GET MY GAME ON! :D

Plan on using Wesker and Viper so I can get some nice little unblockable/mixups going on. Wesker has a counter for almost everything! He's AWESOME!! :D

Phoenix is pretty great, but yeah everyone who uses her keeps thinking teleports and orbs. She gets eat up that way. Her orbs are great but slow enough to work around. They should try to rush them and teleport back out to keep them off their game. If they teleport at all otherwise it should be to cross em up after an assist or delayed fireball attack ( the symbol that explodes). She usually throws enough super to beef her own meter too. Just be careful. If they're blocking your rushdown get out and find a way to crossup.

With Phoenix, I usually TK-Overdrive into a juggle into the air, where I either tag out or I use her down-heavy which bounces the enemy off the ground, which I can then I can juggle and tag out.

If they block the TK-Overdrive, I immediately try to teleport back and trap, and then work from there.

Haha, she's such a glass cannon. Great character. Keeps you on the edge when you play her. :D

Man I need to give faceplate changing a shot one day.

there is so much to learn in this game.. mind blown.

I guess if you just learn sentinel and two others and try to be gimmicky it is an easy game but man, learning matchups is going to take a LONG time.

Despite the low health,Phoenix is god tier. o_o Especially in Dark Phoenix mode,as she has so much speed, mobility, awesome keep away projectiles+mugen level of damage with X-factor level 3.

Someone on GAF was using a phoenix team and I managed to rape her twice by Weapon X priming through her projectiles on the ground, it was glorious kills.

Is your X-factor level just set by how many hyper bars you have full? Or something else?
How many guys you have left.
3 characters: 10 seconds, 10% damage
2 characters: 15 second, 20% damage
1 character: 30 seconds, 30% damage

Think those are the scalings.
