It's going to get 7-10 reviews and not because the gameplay is short of being amazing but because the game is very barebones. No tutorial of any kind explaining how to do snap backs, air tags, DHCs, etc. No versus against CPU outside of arcade mode, endings that are 30 seconds long...for the casual player this is by no means the amazingness that it will be for many hardcore fighter fans.

Urgh, this is horrible to hear, my only fighting experience is SSF4, lack of tutorial will murder me. Might as well start reading guides on the internet now.

Damn that kinda sucks for someone like me that has a pretty shitty internet connection.

I guess I can just play arcade mode if I want practice but damn wtf Capcom? That's a pretty basic feature.

It is in. Its in training mode.

Training mode, son. CPU or record.

Edit: Beaten.

Or get the 400 page strategy tome. You could teach a college course with that thing.

So I can go to training mdoe and have an actual match against the CPU. with me dying and shit? right?

I don't give a fuck and it won't kill my hype but still that's pretty damn convoluted.

You can VS CPU in the training mode. Select your opponents, stage, all that stuff. It's the same as normal VS CPU, just with all the bonuses of training options.

Don't think of it as convoluted, it's just different, and, in the end, probably better. Can set things like infinite meters, assist for both sides, difficulty, and more.

All that shit is probably in the manual

SSF4 and TvC have gamplay info in the manual

people need to read the damn manual

Damn...coming from someone who's been hyped about this since day 1, and has an Amazon Release Day pre-order right now...that sounds all sorts of crappy. Of course 95% of my gameplay will be in training or online, but for them not to include a good tutorial, and be lacking in 1p modes (especially something as basic as a 1p vs. CPU) is just terrible.

Yup and it also allows you access to all the training mode options as well.

OP is quite useful, and the fighting game community is VERY resourceful. Come Feb 15th you will be amazed at the amount of guide goodness that will hit from SRK, iPlaywinner, and more.

If review scores even begin to affect hype levels of anyone seriously, I will need to vent my anger on them. Don't need review scores to convince me otherwise that this isn't GOTF.

But isn't a 7 from edge like an 8.5 for normal reviewers anyways?
that's all irrelevant. what is relevant is the fact that most people don't understand fighting games.

Man, I love me some manuals for whatever strange reason. This is probably a really dumb and bitchy complaint, but I remember being so disappointed with BlazBlue:CS sparse 5 page manual. I think it has to do with the weight it adds to the game case, the BB case feels so light and cheap. Yeah, I'm dumb.

If that's dumb, then I'm dumb too. I love how heavy Rockstar's games tend to be because of the map/poster, and great manuals they usually have. I love when devs go the extra mile with the covers, manuals, and extras.

Too true, but people are willing to give them a shot. I've seen people who don't know what the fuck they're doing in fighting games still have fun. But they wouldn't dare buy them over Madden or CoD. Fighting games are like a delicacy that appears overrated to the masses. 4.5 million copies of SFIV seems like a lot, but the fighting game renaissance could be gone in a snap if the profits don't line up and everyone knows it.

War, war has changed.

Casuals are going to get blown up in this game harder than sf4 sooo this might not be good but hey the game looks awesome so I could careless how the hell they feel about the game, TEN MORE YEARS :P

Hey, I want the game to sell! I just thought that some of the expectations on this board are a bit unrealistic. And fuck reviewers and especially Edge.

Just ordered the signature series guide. Can't fucking wait!

[**Ed's Note - See post #2206!]

I'm bummed that the stream went down. I got excited for a stream where people knew how to play and then fully caught up on the thread. Still down. D:

I hope they patch in Move functionality later in the game's life cycle, would be fun to perform 100 hits combo with JUST MY BARE HANDS amirite?

Only if they add kinect support too! Fucking spidey swing right into the TV.

Never expected it but I do wish they put in some more effort into SP components in fighting games. Mortal Kombat is supposed to have some pretty good motivations for people who like to play SP.

Blazblue/Guilty Gear are anime as hell but they are actually done with quite a bit of effort. Splitting story lines and endings, done in a visual novel style. But yeah most don't give a shit.

blazblue has pretty much the worst story in fighting game history. you might be able to think of some cheesier ones, but no other game has cut scenes that are as horrifically long as BB.

I love the joke endings. The main plotline is convoluted and confusing as motherfuck, yeah.
